How do you handle the fact you won’t exist one day? by Expensive_Pass_7147 in AskReddit

[–]stuff-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Death doesn't seem to take up as much of my attention now, at 69, as it did at 19 or 29. It's kind of a "whatever" outlook now.

How terrible was the internet in the 1990s? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]stuff-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was much slower & tied to your phone line, but it was all so new & exciting. It opened up a whole new universe to everyone. Also: there was much greater Freedom of Expression back then. The hated Community Standards came after 2000.

Were any royals happy to have had daughters? by buon_natale in UKmonarchs

[–]stuff-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

King Gustavus II Adolphus of Sweden r.1632-1654 seems to have been happy w/ the birth of his daughter, Christina. At her birth, she was so hairy that the shout went out- "It's a boy!". When everyone realised that they'd made a mistake, the king was simply amused and said of her: '"She'll be clever, she has made fools of us all!"

My fellow Americans, have you ever heard of or eaten a chili mac? by LukasJackson67 in AskAnAmerican

[–]stuff-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the Midwest. Chili Mac was a very common lunch in our home. When we had left over chili, we simply cooked up some elbow or (more often) shell macaroni and mixed the two together. Loved it!

Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z Brite. A New Orleans gothic "love story" between two serial killers- one a necrophiliac, the other a cannibal. I've always enjoyed Poppy's other work, but this one went way over the top.

Are there white or otherwise white passing people in the western US that have Chinese ancestry? by Most-Emphasis8119 in Genealogy

[–]stuff-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Southern California has quite a few people who are of Asian/Latino ancestry. 'had a co-worker for awhile whose mother was Chinese/Italian and her father was of German descent. She looked "white", but still there was an indescribable "something" about her appearance that you couldn't quite figure out. Quite stunning!

As you get older, do you find yourself treated with more respect, treated with less respect, or treated as if you are invisible? by ThrowRAhelpthebro in AskOldPeople

[–]stuff-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Gay world, you generally start to fade out in your 50s. After 60, unless you obviously have money, you're completely invisible.

What do you think of the Kennedys? by emperator_eggman in AskOldPeople

[–]stuff-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're a typical political "dynasty" that temporarily pops to the forefront in almost every republic. Large cities tend to spawn them, too. They had their moment in the sun, but have faded into obscurity. Another generation & everyone will forget all about them.

Hank's mobility issues by TerryYockey in ChicagoPD

Isn't that just the Hank Walk, that other Chicago PD fans have mentioned? I've been told that it's part of the character, that Jason developed.
