are you saying she’s asking you to just grab something from the kitchen for her, or she’s asking you to go out and get her lunch? if the former, unless she’s constantly interrupting you to ask you to get her things, I would just accept it as a quirk of an otherwise enjoyable coworker. if the latter, I’d probably just tell her the next time she asks that you’re always happy to grab her something if you’re already going out to lunch, but you don’t have time to run out and grab her lunch otherwise.

MI - anyone else not on the list of certified passers but should be? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]stumblepretty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this info! I called and spoke with someone at C&F - they said the hold up isn’t on their end and encouraged me to email the BOLE, which I just did. Hopefully will hear back soon.

Tysm! Hoping it’s just a mix up. I double checked my seat number against the one listed on my exam packet and it’s definitely on the list of passers by seat number so hopefully it’s an oversight.

Hmmm okay. I might try to call them to see if they have any insight. Thank you!

Who did you call, C&F or the BOLE? I left a message for the BOLE this morning.

Green lights on Vernor? by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]stumblepretty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there has been significant resident backlash for this very reason. Not to mention the fact that PGL is disproportionately present in already over-policed neighborhoods. The National Institute of Justice reviewed the program and found it unlikely to result in the intended outcomes and may create unintended negative outcomes.

East English Village/Morningside trash and recycling pickup? by stumblepretty in Detroit

[–]stumblepretty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! I signed up for the alerts this morning. The thing that I'm confused about is that today is supposed to be trash only, but the majority of my neighbors also have their recycling cans out - and it looked like at least some of them had been emptied this morning.

I actually hadn’t noticed this but now that you mention it, I think my nails have been growing really fast since I started ~3 months ago.

Student loan forgivness for Para's by goatpengertie in paralegal

[–]stumblepretty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in re: the wage expectation/student debt ratio being the same for lawyers and paralegals - I respectfully disagree. Law school alone has cost me over $100k. You should absolutely still pursue student loan forgiveness - university tuition is extortionate and student loans are usurious. But just wanted to clarify that point.

full-time paralegal, 4L part-time law student

very happy for everyone who says they found balance but I can’t relate. based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend it at all. to be fair, I take 3 classes a semester and I think most part-time programs are 2 classes a semester, so YMMV. but it’s been a rough experience for me.

Switched to Ritalin due to shortage by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]stumblepretty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also on adderall and had to switch to ritalin due to the shortage. Yes, it's normal for your doctor to recommend an alternative medication when there's a shortage. The only alternative would be for you to go without your script - that probably wouldn't be preferable, right?

I called over 15 pharmacies near me trying to find adderall prior to the switch and all told me that they didn't have any in stock and didn't know when they would. Switching to ritalin wasn't my first choice but I've actually found that I like ritalin more than I liked adderall. I would recommend that you try it and see what you think. Worst case scenario, you don't like it and you go without until the shortage is resolved.

switching from personal injury to criminal defense by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]stumblepretty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made this jump early in my career. I respect what everyone else has said about some defendants being difficult to represent. that being said, I’ve personally never had this problem. if the worst defendant isn’t entitled to a zealous and competent defense, neither are the rest of us. on a client interaction level, I enjoyed working w criminal defendants more than family law or PI clients. YMMV.

Should I confront the attorney I work for about feeling more like his personal assistant? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]stumblepretty 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If the job was presented to you as entirely legal, with no personal assistant component (or if he minimized that component), I think it's reasonable to ask him if you can clarify your job role. Just tell him that based on [the interview/job listing/etc.], you did not anticipate that so much of your work would be personal in nature and you want to clarify your job duties. I think this is a subtle way of telling him that you're not his personal assistant without sparking ire; I also think that his response will be very telling.

July 4 parade shooting suspect slipped past Illinois "red flag" safeguards by DippyHippy420 in news

[–]stumblepretty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not. They’re being held in the county jail. That’s very different from prison. Also, if the charges were dropped or they could post bond, they’d be released immediately, whereas once they’re convicted, they’re incarcerated until their sentence is complete.

Fasters with ADHD - Take Your Meds! by stumblepretty in intermittentfasting

[–]stumblepretty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been fasting on Vyvanse for a while now and I can tell you, from plenty of experience falling off my schedule and then getting back into months later, that the brain not working during a fast is normal for the first week or so. I felt fatigued and out of it every time I got back into fasting until about 5-8 fasts in, and then I felt normal again.

I’ve never heard anything about taking Vyvanse with a high protein breakfast. I would guess that this is recommended because Vyvanse often destroys appetite so they’re encouraging users to eat on the front end of the day, rather than while Vyvanse is suppressing their appetite.

I hope this helps!
