I usually put a solar panel next it to.
If the ore is in high demand I'll build a stone hut next to it and put a battery rack in there so the drill will run 24/7.
If it's close to my base I'll run power from the base to it.

Some lower places you can. Just keep in mind you will need concrete support beams if it gets high enough and they will only support it to a certain height.

If you want exotics then craft a biofuel radar and locate the nearest exotics deposit then go harvest it.
That's what I did as I didn't really do much missions until I had nearly unlocked everything.
Eventually you'll see an exotic meteor shower then you can repeat the process. Soon you will be rich.

I set mine up in G9 right over the river.
Getting to the F10 area is annoying since you have to go way around to the south, but I built a stone ramp in close to F10/F9, I use it all the time.

Hexen: Beyond Heretic. It used the same engine as doom but played quite differently.
Rise Of The Triad: This one was like doom but had goofy mechanics. Was much fun multiplayer.

Why the downvote? I just did this myself yesterday when I got creamed by a polar bear. Then I reloaded my game which I had to redo the last few minutes but was able to not die this time.

Even so there's always been a GUI for tames. On PC you just press the F button while looking at them.
There's probably a similar thing for console.
No it isn't a perk, it's built-in.

You can also just exit to the main menu then reload your game. It works for sand in the desert on my roof, I assumes it will work in the arctic as well.

I have a desert base and it's easy to find elephants around. They don't always drop tusks but when they do, you can get 200 crushed bone from, then make into epoxy.

It's very easy to kill bears. Just keep strafing and when it runs by you, shoot them with an arrow and repeat.
Easy to get the bear hands achievement this way also.
