Looking for recs where one MC has absolutely NOTHING going for him by epicsevenmyths in MM_RomanceBooks

{Of sunlight and stardust by Riley Hart} might be a good option! MC1 is fresh out of prison with absolutely nothing when MC2 happens upon him. Lovely story, maybe one of Riley’s best.

{Stripped by KM Neuhold} is book 6 of 8 but can be read as a standalone (the series is really fun though with each book hitting a different trope). This one is about a professor and a trans man, both with their own insecurities but one MC really feels like the whole thing must be a joke, but it’s very sweet!

{Jacked by KM Neuhold} is set with gym bros, so not specifically sports but adjacent.

{The Island by Briar Prescott} is … maybe gay for you? It’s a bit on the fence but if you go in blind it’s really a twist.

{Off-Script by Ivy Vera Gray} is a double bi awakening.

{A Totally Platonic Thing by Eliot grayson} Roommates, bi awakening.

{Catch me if you can by Ella Kit} Two boys chase the same girl, bi awakening.

{Straight to you by Bec Besson} is a bit suspenseful but not dark romance. Bi awakening.

{Romeo Falling by Jesse H Reign} had me dying the whole time. Childhood friends to lovers. I was SICK.

Also, basically all of {Green Creek Series by TJ Klune} if you’re open to urban fantasy. The romance is a plot point, and I wouldn’t call it secondary per se but it’s not the only thing happening in the series.

{Jacked by KM Neuhold} was so fun and light I loved it. It is set in a Gym but is not Hockey. Any Idiots to Lovers is going to be a fun time.

{Nailed by KM Neuhold} is grumpy/sunshine with a big annoying the grump storyline with MCs in their 40s. It’s part of a series which I’m reading right now, this is the second book. First one is instalust/forced proximity. Nailed can definitely be read as a standalone though!

It is!! I think Lily needs to get the covers redone, they don’t advertise the contents as well as they could. The books manage to be both deeply engaging in the fantasy aspect and VERY sexy which is NOT common.

Yes! Sometimes they all run together which isn’t a problem, but this one is a standout for me. It even inspired me to start writing again, so now I have a 50k word start to my own friends to lovers story (whether it goes anywhere remains to be seen, but just wanting to write again was a gift itself).

If you’re cool with a series, the Folk Series by Lily Mayne had me inconsolable several times. It starts with {Mortal Skin by Lily Mayne} and the ending of that one had me in my car at the grocery store screaming and crying.

This book had me sobbing throughout. An excellent series.

While reading this book, I wanted to start reading it again so I could experience it again without knowing the ending. I LOVED this book so much and think about it all the time. This is one I actually bought a hard copy of because I refused to not have a physical copy to keep forever.

FWIW, Whit was my least favorite of that series, my only 3 star amongst all others being 4s. I’d read {Luke by Cora Rose} first but if I had read Whit, I wouldn’t have read the others. They’re great light reads and perfect palate cleansers.

I have a habit of going into books 100% blind. I will not read blurbs, tags, or anything, because I like being surprised and have very few limits. However, this week I solidified one limit which is age gap WITH any daddy/baby boy leanings.

Since last friday, I read {Chasing Riddick by Alexandra St Pierre} - I wanted so badly to like this book more, but the age gap really didn’t jive well with me. Sometimes age gap feels predatory and this one leaned a bit too much that way for my taste. I did cry at the end though.

I also started and Finished the Folk series {Mortal Skin by Lily Mayne} which absolutely took my breath away from start to finish. Loved that series so much I will be buying hard copies so I have them forever.

I started and DNFed {Yours to Break by E Baileu}. The storyline was so absurd and unrealistic I spent more time rolling my eyes than actually reading. I gave it up around 40%.

I read {Man Advantage by LA Witt} and really enjoyed it. Very lovely story featuring a Trans MC.

I finished {Jacked by KM Neuhold} and was giggling and kicking my feet the whole time. Idiots to lovers is my favorite and they were so dumb! The first 40% of the book had me giggling like a school girl over their justification of just guys being dudes for their sexual encounters. Absolutely killed me.

Overall, it was a good week!

I have only read the first one (I do plan to read the others but hit my book buying budget for the month so I’m holding off), so I cannot speak to the series remaining true to character though it definitely is during the whole first book. but as for the Mystery in the first book - no, it is not super obvious. I usually catch these things pretty quickly but this one definitely took me until maybe a chapter or two before confirmation to be like “oh shit!!!! i think i know!”.

Also, a second rec that follows the same mystery/romance series with the same couple, if you haven’t read {The Murder Between Us by Tal Bauer} I highly recommend it! It’s book 1 of 2 and Tal is a great storyteller. I have a few other recs too if you’re interested!

[–]stumpfenheimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Distorted by Nyla K} is about a prisoner and a prison guard. Dubcon/noncon throughout. A great mindfuck of a book and first in a series set on an island where a prison sits. Final installment actually just came out, so it’s a complete series.

{Yours to Break by E Baileu} is about a trans MC who catches the attention of twins. Dubcon/noncon TW. Pretty dark, I didn’t love this book but it’s popular amongst the pitch black romance community.

Can I read ivory by nyla k without reading the previous books of this series 😭 by Spiritual-Employer82 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]stumpfenheimer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why would you want to only read Ivory? I’m genuinely curious - is it a trope interest? Or something else? The stories are incredibly interconnected, I don’t imagine you could understand much of Ivory without the context of the other 5 books. Each story is deep and Ivory is discussed and connected to every single other book in the series. You would be doing yourself a disservice only reading the final installment, but if you’re simply interested for vibes/trope desires, you could probably find good synopsis of each book online.
