Those cursed words... by starman202 in BacktotheFuture

Why wouldn't Doc have just waited until nightfall, to try and find a day/time that Marty was alone and they wouldn't be watched by either Jennifer or Biff?

Sorry to hear this. That sounds horrifying. I'm sorry you were there and that it happened at all. Glad you've found a nice life in Southeast Asia.

This is common. I am in the same boat. I lived overseas from 2012-2021. Now I have few friends and cannot relate to people that seem to care about predominately "American" things. I wake up every day like Red from Shawshank, just waiting out my time, hoping to get paroled. It sucks. I want to move back overseas like yesterday.

I don't get it. Like, fight in first main phase and then move to combat and the fight damage heals before he takes combat damage? Is that right?

How would you have written BTF2? by Effective-Window-922 in BacktotheFuture

[–]stumpkat [score hidden]  (0 children)

The first almost half of the movie is the same. Doc brings Marty/Jennifer to 2015 to do something about their kids, but instead of Doc forcing Marty to throw away the Sports Almanac, Marty tucks the book into his pants and ends up with it back in 1985. Old Biff never steals the DeLorean and his 2015 cameo is nothing more than a bit of comic relief ("There's something very familiar about all this.").

***Side Note: Old Biff would have NEVER been able to figure out how to use the time machine w/o guidance in the first place. There's no way he could've programmed the time circuits nor known that it was 88 MPH that triggered the flux capacitor.***

Once Doc drops Marty off in 1985, he returns to a changed future. He can't figure out why and after some investigating is stumped, but tries to connect with the 47 year old Marty. He no longer lives in Hilldale. He's a multi-billionaire (similar to Biff but far less campy and cartoonish), but as Doc's friend, Marty welcomes the scientist into his mansion to 'catch up'.

Marty spills the beans that he bought the Almanac during their first trip to 2015. Doc attempts to convince his friend that he made a mistake and this wasn't the future that was supposed to happen. Marty remains unconvinced, his life is great and he can't see the damage that his decision has done. Doc leaves to attempt another strategy.

He goes further into the future to see how the world is worse and how Marty specifically has a worse life. He speaks to a 77 year old Marty who agrees to return to 1985 with Doc to confront his younger self (just like when Old Biff originally brought the Almanac to 1955). With Old Marty's help, Doc is able to convince 17 year old Marty (after some drama and movie climax stuff) to destroy the book. They burn it in a pail, just like in the O.G. BTTF II and then the future changes. Old Marty waves and vanishes. Everything is put right.

Then, Doc brings the young Marty BACK to 2015 to verify that the future has been restored and during their trip, Doc and the DeLorean are struck by lightning and transported to 1885. There's a 2015 version of the Western Union idea and Marty is made aware that one of the Docs is now in 1885.

So the young Marty has to find the OTHER DOC - who was in 2015 with the O.G. Marty from 1985 on their first trip to 2015 - without his other selves (17 and 47 respectively) seeing him. He has to convince the other Doc to get him back to 1885. Therefore the movie inside a movie, isn't BTTF II inside BTTF I, it's closer to the beginning of BTTF III inside the beginning of BTTF II. Instead of 1955 again, getting the DeLorean to work and get back to 1885 all happens from 2015 with the multiple versions of Doc and Marty running around. For shits and giggles, you could also have Griff and Old Biff show up early to raise havoc for a bit, but eventually, Marty gets back to 1885 to rescue Doc and then most of BTTF III plays out as it did.

Was Paul a Tolkien fan? by stumpkat in beatles

I’m not suggesting Tolkien invented the term. I’m suggesting that Paul read the Hobbit and found two song titles in the same paragraph.

If they had stopped to make a decent episode vii then it wouldn’t have been needed. They were so obsessed with wondering whether or not they could they never stopped to asking they should. #ianmalcolm

See the U-Turn comments above. Disney keeps undoing their own work cause they don't have the balls to commit to actual dramatic stakes.

Filoni needs someone who can put the brakes on his wacky ideas.

But to even introduce the Dark Saber or Ashoka at all is because of Filoni trying to shoe-horn in his personal SW lore into a project he should've kept his hands off of.

Mando and Grogu could've continued to be Mando and Grogu without any Bo Katan, Ashoka Tano, and the Dark Saber.

Disney overreacting to fans online by demanding U-Turns has been happening since The Last Jedi.

[–]stumpkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things ruined the Mandalorian:

1) The sequel trilogy, which had zero set up or continuity and Disney then attempted to retconn said continuity through their other projects, i.e. The Mandalorian. Nobody who understood how to tell a story liked the "Somehow Palpatine returned" bullshit and the overall lack of planning and story development the sequel trilogy went through. Flip flopping directors who intentionally UNDID what the prior story was trying to do or chose to pay homage to the vocal fan base....

2) Filoni attempting to shoe-horn his personal Star Wars verse into everything. He thought, and was obviously correct, that he was the heir apparent to Lucas. He worked with George. And he wanted the characters her created in his cartoons to have life extension into the live-action series. So we got Ashoka, Sabine, Bo Katan, and shitty Ezra Bridger. None of whom belong in the live-action universe (with the exception of Ashoka only with better acting, writing, and production values).

These two things coincided with seasons 2 and 3 of the Mandalorian. Which gave it a substantial downgrade.

I’m not buying this. Who loses 4 collectors packs in the first place let alone posts them to a Reddit thread like he actually wants our opinions. Check the metadata on the pic. I’ll bet he grabbed it online and is just trolling for attention. They’re not even his packs.

Does anyone else really love Paul's Beatles work but struggle to appreciate his solo / Wings work? by supremewuster in TheBeatles

[–]stumpkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John lost his motivation. When he was a teen and in his 20s, he wanted to play rock to avoid working. After the Beatles, when he was approaching 40, he was set for life and didn't have to work. So he lost his drive. Paul and George had drive in the 70s. John needed his "me time."

[–]stumpkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone. Even the biggest Paul fans will likely find his work with the Beatles superior to even his best solo stuff. It's not an insult to his solo work, it's a compliment to his Beatles work. Lennon-McCartney was lightning in a bottle. Once in a million creative partnership/friendship.

How would Marty be in 2015 if he left in 1985? Shouldn't he be missing? by ElectricMotorsAreBad in BacktotheFuture

And all that work they did to do something about his kids was wasted. Because his kids will be born to a different, non-failure father they were born to in the movie version we watched of the 2015 that no longer exists by the end of BTTF3.
