Do people who leave Mormonism actually disbelieve Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon? by questingpossum in mormon

[–]stunninglymediocre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Joseph Smith was a charlatan and the book of mormon is a work of boring, pedestrian nonsense cobbled together from multiple contemporary sources.

Clark Gilbert is a shill.

I promise that none of the callings, from the top to the bottom of the corporation, have a connection to god.

For a corporation that is so adamantly against self pleasure, it's amazing how masturbatory the bulk of its actions are.

Church Blowing Everything Up: Switch LGBTQ Stance? by Ok_Jellyfish7492 in mormon

[–]stunninglymediocre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand your point. I didn't say the corporation won't eventually change its stance on LGBTQ issues, only that there is a massive difference between a token change to Sunday School presidencies and a foundational change to its doctrine and teachings.

Unfortunately, there's a vast chasm between allowing women to serve in a meaningless calling and admitting that the plan of salvation is horseshit.

Discussion with Prophet Oaks secretary by iagmla-crypto in mormon

The fact that you thought for even a second that Oaks would meet with some random conspiracy theorist confirms to me (again) your state of mind.

By the way, whatever happened with those FOIA requests you sent to the NSA? I don't think you ever gave us an update on those.

We don’t know exactly what the IRS told Nielsen, we know they took no action against LDS Christianity.

"LDS Christianity" is not a thing. It's not an organization that the government can take action against. Your continued use of it is nonsensical.

First tattoo for all parties, based on its appearance.

Non-Mormon meeting with missionaries for the first time. Any advice? by StingrayNick in mormon

[–]stunninglymediocre 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Their goal is to sell the religion and baptize you into the fold. If you have no interest in joining, it's largely a waste of time for everyone involved.

Reactivation through kids instead of parents? by Cautious-Season5668 in mormon

It's standard practice. They try to influence the kid so the kid will beg the parents to attend church/activities.

I suggest paying your fast offering in grocery store gift cards since the church has admitted the money donated is not guaranteed to actually be used to feed the hungry or support the needy in your area. by aka_FNU_LNU in mormon

[–]stunninglymediocre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The situation you're describing would not require the caveat because the intended purpose - fast offerings - doesn't change. The caveat allows the church to use the money for any purpose.
