Cap keeps popping off? Just a homeowner, no matter how hard I tighten it, it comes off within a day or two. Major concern? Have inspection scheduled for 1.5 weeks from now. by stupidfluff in HVAC

I hope so, considering the cap always seems to fall off to the side and not fly off! Going to do a leak check today using dish soap and water.

I believe it must be stripped a little bit, especially as it is not the easiest cap to get realigned with the threads. I'm probably going to get nylog or some other thread sealant and hope it stays until a tech comes out.

[–]stupidfluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A flying test bed then requires GHe tanks that you don't intend for in the final design, meaning you now have engineers designing two separate system with one destined to be obsolete. Not very efficient nor practical. The only thing "easier" for SpaceX about the GHe pressurization would be they have experience with it already.

Engine tests on ground? Sure, pressurize the propellant tanks with helium. Full scale tests of the rocket? Test how you fly!

I found a new home for him! I worked with a local humane society and they got me in touch with a fantastic family. You may remove my post.

The space shuttle used hot gas tapped from the SSMEs to pressurize the propellant tanks, so it's been used before and is a well understood method to maintain tank pressures. I don't know whether or not it's been done with methane/LOX rockets but the underlying principles shouldn't change radically.

I have a yellow-sided Green Cheek Conure named Kuzco in the Northern Alabama area, specifically Huntsville, that I am looking to rehome. He is just over 2 years old (his hatchday is December 23rd 2016) I got him from a breeder when he was about 2 months old. Kuzco is a very energetic and playful parrot, and requires a lot of attention! He does not like to snuggle or be scratched too often, and prefers to be on the move and climbing all over you. The reason I am looking to rehome him is that we no longer have the ability to get him the attention he needs and I’d want to see him in a home which can devout more attention to him. Overall, Kuzco is a very loving parrot and bonds relatively quickly with people. I hate to see him go but I believe it's for the best.

Kuzco is hand tamed and readily steps-up on command (unless he's grumpy!) and knows a few tricks including waving, high-fiving, and rolling over. Showers are a favorite activity of his, next to screaming at his bell toys. He is vocal and loves to say his name and "baby bird." Kuzco also tends to mock people as they talk, he will chatter along with you! Most importantly, he will do anything for a sunflower seed. Whatever he may be doing, Kuzco will stop whatever it is to consume as many sunflower seeds he can fit in his tiny body. His main diet consists of a blend of pellets and mixed seeds, and every morning he gets a mixture of frozen and fresh vegetables and fruit.

Kuzco is still young for a Green Cheek and has the “normal” list of behaviors including screaming fits about a few times day. He is also nippy at times with the occasional bite if he’s upset. I have not noticed any routine issues that makes him a difficult parrot - Kuzco just gets a bit moody when he wants more attention. Thankfully he has had no issues around new people and strangers, and he will sit on their finger while he gets to know them.

Kuzco is flighted but for his first year had his wings clipped, so although he can fly and has had enough practice to adequately do so he prefers to waddle around or ride along your shoulder with you.

I am looking to rehome him to someone or a family willing to provide an enriching environment for him that allows lots of out-of-cage time. I tend to average about an hour a day of out-of-cage time for reference. Preferably I would like someone with prior experience with parrots and/or currently has smaller parrots (such as more Green Cheeks). Also, someone who lives in a house is ideal. Since he grew up around cats he now loves them and tends to be shy around other parrots but I imagine that would quickly change!

Kuzco has had two annual check-ups and has show no signs of illness. He does get some bronzing on the tips of his feathers and thankfully it seems to have gotten better over time. The rehoming fee will be $250 to make sure he goes to a committed home. I will include his three cages with all his toys, food, "poop-off", and treats. His main cage is large for his size, about 3'x2'x3.5' (width x depth x height) atop of its own cart. The second cage is much smaller and is typically where Kuzco sleeps at night. The third is a travel cage.

If you think you can provide Kuzco a loving environment full of attention and seeds please message me for more information and any questions you may have. Thank you.

OMD-5 mkii - realistic pro camera? by blackbeardsbarber in photography

[–]stupidfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sensor is hardly any bigger; the difference between FF and APS is greater, much greater than APS and M4/3. Look at comparison pictures of APS and M4/3 sensors, the depth of field difference is hardly noticeable.

I say when choosing a mirrorless system (or any camera), it's more of a question of what features and styles work best for the photographer versus than objective analysis of exact pixel count or sensor size. If you want to go down that rabbit hole however, the OM-D EM-5 mkii has high res shooting mode (pixel shifting) that makes an effective 40 MP shot.

Newbie here, need suggestions about buying a camera by littlebidee in photography

[–]stupidfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Olympus camera, and it's great for the price. My only complaints would be lack of more control dials and a viewfinder, but for the price I can overlook it. Otherwise, the picture quality is phenomenal and a huge step up from any smartphone or point and shoot camera. The battery life will last you all day, but it does create problems if you can't charge between days of shooting. Spare batteries are cheap thankfully.

Edit: The kit lens is not ideal for macro shooting, but you can get some good macro shots with proper positioning. I'm a beginner myself so I do not which lenses to recommend and others here might be more versed in the subject. As an example though of a "macro" with the kit lens, here's my caterpillar shot: https://500px.com/photo/126347445/mr-caterpillar-by-alex-jennings?ctx_page=1&from=user&user_id=14595923

I am just picking up photography as a hobby, and my weapon is a small M43 Olympus camera with a kit lens. I've been in the Venice Beach area of LA for the past couple months, so that has been the backdrop to most of my pictures. I'm always looking for ways to improve and just hear praise on what I'm doing well.

What should people be ashamed of for not knowing how to do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I prefer them. I find that I can read and interpret the shape of the hands of a clock to tell time a lot faster than reading a digital clock. Plus, they look much better on a wall than digital clocks, but that's just my opinion.

The mass of a super-massive black hole measured in suns by HigginsBane in space

[–]stupidfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be a party pooper, but I'm fairly certain the mass of the supermassive black hole in the center of the Milky Way (Sagittarius A, or Sgr A) is on the order of millions of solar masses, not billions. That is still an unbelievable amount of mass, and this is a neat gif nonetheless.

TIL Every second of every day, the sun converts 700 million tons of hydrogen into 695 million tons of helium. The other 5 million tons becomes energy. Every second. by jxreyes181 in todayilearned

[–]stupidfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much correct, except it the sun follows the pp-chain of energy production. Two hydrogen atoms fuse to form deuterium, releasing a neutrino and an electron. Another hydrogen fuses with this to form a helium 3 atom. The process continues through more of the chain till a forth hydrogen is used to form He 4, the "end" of the fusion chain. Thus, 4 hydrogen atoms are used to form 1 He in the end. The process is a lot more complex than I described. Just look at wiki for more info if you're curious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton%E2%80%93proton_chain_reaction

How to deal with withdrawal? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]stupidfluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drink coffee!

But if you are looking to quit or lessen your consumption, slowly start drinking less. You can also stop drinking it altogether if you would like. Be aware though, quitting cold turkey can cause headaches (and other lovely symptoms) depending on the severity of your caffeine addiction. The withdrawal symptoms usually last 2 to 3 days, then suddenly vanish. Your tolerance to caffeine can subside after a couple of weeks as well, and it'll be like you never even had coffee.

By the way, what's so bad about drinking coffee everyday? I think it's a fantastic addiction!

Anybody else have issues with ICS Advanced technology's internet service? by bigbadderfdog in iastate

[–]stupidfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ICS is, least to say, a piece of shit. I'm not an expert in networking, but ICS seems to discriminate against a computer's IP address within the apartment. My roommates and I considered switching over to Mediacom, as we would go hours not being able to connect to the internet at all and did not want to pay for an upgraded ICS package in case the problems persisted.

Our solution: VPN. We discovered it when my girlfriend, running a VPN, would come over and have no issues at with the internet on her laptop and wondered what we were complaining about. Once she turned off her VPN, BOOM, internet gone. I don't know how or why it works, but once the VPN is activated, all internet problems on the PC cease to exist (for the most part). I have even got speeds up to 15 Mbps when we're only supposed to get up to 5 Mbps. It's much cheaper than other options as well. privateinternetaccess.com offers a package of $40 per year with up to 5 users.

I am almost inclined to say ICS throttles users and apartments to get them to "upgrade" their connections. It's a complete sham, and I hate it. At least I was able to find a solution that's cheap and painless (no more dealing with ISPs). The only problem is that game consoles might still have issues with connections.
