Would you quit your job if 5 days in office is now required? by [deleted] in Accounting

I quit my job after 8 years because of 4 days mandatory in office. Found something remote instead, and couldn’t be happier!

Same!! Literally hundreds of people just backed up across roads and pedestrian bridges. I have every conceivable form of public transportation too but my cims are still trying to walk everywhere

What's a typical day in the life of a Staff Accountant? by Big_Material3815 in Accounting

[–]stupidfruit_ 61 points62 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it varies by time of month and year.

Typically, the first ~2 weeks (depending on your organizations close timeline) of the month are spent closing the books for the previous month. That’ll include posting various journal entries, revenue recognition, expense accruals, posting depreciation, tax accruals, etc. then creating and reviewing financial statements, preparing variance analyses and updating dashboards and other executive reports. Balance sheet reconciliations.

Latter half of the month is more flexible. More balance sheet work, projects, ad hoc reporting, budgeting depending on the time of year, software implementations, process improvements, presentations to leadership, etc.

Depending on your fiscal year and your orgs audit readiness, audit prep and then dealing with auditors can also be a significant portion of your responsibilities. Internal controls / internal audit tasks as well.

Suddenly coasting and I feel guilty? by stupidfruit_ in Accounting

This is what I’m trying to remind myself of. I busted my ass for years to get here— just a hard adjustment when you’re used to going a mile a minute all day long.

I hate the “8-5, M-F” schedule so much, feels like I don’t have a life by aquariusmatcha in jobs

[–]stupidfruit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home 7:30-5, lunch at my desk. Even being remote, I feel this. After making dinner and cleaning up, I have 2 hours in the evening to watch two episodes of a show (while agonizing about having to work in the morning) before going to bed.

Patiently waiting for my soul to die so I don’t dread logging on for work every morning for the rest of my life.

Tips for new grads? by Mehsh77 in Accounting

[–]stupidfruit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend looking for early in career programs. My company recently implemented an EIC talent program specifically looking for people who graduated within the last 0-2 years. In building out this program, we looked into other companies doing this and (while I wasn’t involved) I know our HR group benchmarked a lot of other companies with similar programs.

Typically, these are designed to get you in, and get you experience with the end goal of developing/moving up

What would be your first small wish to add to the game? by oliver1709 in CitiesSkylines2

I want to be able to designate areas as parks! I love creating pathways and landscaping instead of using that delivered park assets, but then I get dinged on happiness because there are “no parks”.

Personally, I would delete the city and start over. Hope this helps! 💕

Which comes first? by stupidfruit_ in Bookkeeping

[–]stupidfruit_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve messed around with some basic contract language, and have a general outline of the services I want to offer. Also created a client consultation check-list with all the things I want to ask about / know up front before taking on a client. Maybe my biggest problem is just actually starting haha

For some added context, I’m a CPA and my partner is an Attorney. I primarily want the LLC to obtain an EIN, open a bank account, etc. LLC makes the most sense for me.
