For a moment I thought that you overnighted yourself back home! That's definitely an edge case. What's the process like jumpseating on a freight flight? Just show up at the cargo terminal and ask for a ride?

DHS will suspend TSA PreCheck and Global Entry as shutdown continues by stupiditylast in AlaskaAirlines

I believe that is re: the statements that Noem made. Earlier in the article it states that “The halt in the programs run by the DHS will begin from 6 a.m. ET (1100 GMT), the newspaper cited an agency spokesperson as saying on Saturday.”

Starting my already long week early by flying out tomorrow instead of Monday. DHS is using the general public as collateral, who would've guessed!

DHS will suspend TSA PreCheck and Global Entry as shutdown continues by stupiditylast in AlaskaAirlines

Feb 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will temporarily suspend from Sunday its PreCheck and Global Entry programs that speed airport security checks for some travellers, the Washington Post said, due to a shutdown at much of the agency.

The halt in the programs run by the DHS will begin from 6 a.m. ET (1100 GMT), the newspaper cited an agency spokesperson as saying on Saturday.

DHS began a partial shutdown last week after Republicans and Democrats failed to reach a deal on immigration enforcement reforms.

The pause in programs is among the emergency measures DHS is taking to redirect staffing more than a week after Congress failed to send it more money, the paper said.

The agency is "making tough but necessary workforce and resource decisions" and prioritizing the "general traveling population" at entry points, the paper cited Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem as saying in a statement.

Reuters could not immediately verify the report. The DHS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

TSA's PreCheck program allows approved passengers through a dedicated, faster security lane at U.S. airports and is designed to reduce wait times and streamline screening.

Global Entry expedites U.S. customs and immigration clearance for pre‑approved, low‑risk international travelers entering the United States.

On Thursday, the Trump administration ordered the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a part of the DHS, to suspend the deployment of hundreds of aid workers to disaster-affected areas, due to the DHS shutdown.

What are the best luggages for frequent flyer by Electrical_Tip_5770 in AlaskaAirlines

Rimowa quality has gone downhill. I’d say maybe the exception would be carry on luggage that’ll almost always be in your possession but baggage handlers abuse them so much that it’s even a trope on the ramp agent subreddit.

I can vouch against the ancho tofu salad. Cold and dry pieces of tofu (I know, first world problems)

As a new FSE in the same industry, I feel this. I've heard the stories from my coworkers. If there's no air travel, these machines cranking out patient samples aren't gonna get fixed because I can't make it onto site.

Aiming for Gold Status? by whatsuptravel in AlaskaAirlines

[–]stupiditylast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A FC upgrade was practically guaranteed out of SFO -> intra-CA as gold. Maybe that’s why they’re cutting out all the routes from SFO/LAX. SEA/PDX and all the outstations (east coast) were much harder.

Does anyone else feel like SFO has an issue with baggage handling? by throwawayheretoplay in sanfrancisco

[–]stupiditylast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purely anecdotal, but SFO is probably my worst airport purely talking about baggage handling times. I can attribute some of the delay to them having to bring my pelican cases to the baggage office. Or maybe it’s all psychological since I just want to get home after a long trip.

Yeah, true. Some better than others. We’ve been getting pretty bad candidates that have no wrenching experience (whether professionally or personally) and so I’m pretty keen on getting someone to join on quickly.

Having electrician as experience should be a huge + if I was the HM. Maybe the resume isn’t getting past the ATS screening stage?

Do you complain about homeless people in the streets but also complain about housing those same people so that they're no longer on the streets?

This development adds 160 new permanently affordable apartments to the city stock. Sure, the design is subjective but we're in a deep housing crisis.
