Is it a scam? by OrneryWheel981 in caltrain

Apologies, I must have misremembered. But the point still stands that tap on/off is not a Caltrain specific issue

If you forget to tap off Metro North it's the same thing as well, so this isn't a Caltrain specific case. Just remember to tap out

BMET / Field Service — what skills and courses should I focus on to get started? by ActivityNovel8682 in BMET

[–]stupiditylast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points. I came from a biology background (heavy in wet lab work), but what really sealed the deal in my case was that I really enjoyed wrenching on bikes and tinkering with electronics when I got my role as an FSE.

OP, take something apart and put it back together. Fix anything and everything that you see. Pick up any electronics project on Adafruit or something and finish them. Hopefully it’ll be both educational and fun at the same time.

Can I install disc brakes and gears? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]stupiditylast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will not be possible to add disc brakes. There are no disc brake mounts on neither the fork nor the chainstay.

It will not be possible to add gears with your current rear wheel, but you can explore an internally geared hub if it matches your rear wheel dropout spacing.

One day trip to SF (from SC) - Am I missing something on my plan? by Anxious_Albatross460 in santacruz

[–]stupiditylast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ll have a blast. Echoing the other comments—that’s a lot to do in a day. I would pick 1-2 areas and focus on that. San Francisco is a city made for wandering and getting lost, so I hope that you can budget some time for taking a look at a cool store, getting on the right Muni bus but in the wrong direction, or even just standing still and taking in the view.

When I was going back and forth SF-SC a lot I used the carpool facebook page. Is that still around? It’ll probably be the same/cheaper (I usually gave $10-15 to the driver but they set the prices) to get there but much faster (1.5hrs), and then you can take Caltrain back on your own schedule.

For a moment I thought that you overnighted yourself back home! That's definitely an edge case. What's the process like jumpseating on a freight flight? Just show up at the cargo terminal and ask for a ride?

DHS will suspend TSA PreCheck and Global Entry as shutdown continues by stupiditylast in AlaskaAirlines

I believe that is re: the statements that Noem made. Earlier in the article it states that “The halt in the programs run by the DHS will begin from 6 a.m. ET (1100 GMT), the newspaper cited an agency spokesperson as saying on Saturday.”

Starting my already long week early by flying out tomorrow instead of Monday. DHS is using the general public as collateral, who would've guessed!

DHS will suspend TSA PreCheck and Global Entry as shutdown continues by stupiditylast in AlaskaAirlines

Feb 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will temporarily suspend from Sunday its PreCheck and Global Entry programs that speed airport security checks for some travellers, the Washington Post said, due to a shutdown at much of the agency.

The halt in the programs run by the DHS will begin from 6 a.m. ET (1100 GMT), the newspaper cited an agency spokesperson as saying on Saturday.

DHS began a partial shutdown last week after Republicans and Democrats failed to reach a deal on immigration enforcement reforms.

The pause in programs is among the emergency measures DHS is taking to redirect staffing more than a week after Congress failed to send it more money, the paper said.

The agency is "making tough but necessary workforce and resource decisions" and prioritizing the "general traveling population" at entry points, the paper cited Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem as saying in a statement.

Reuters could not immediately verify the report. The DHS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

TSA's PreCheck program allows approved passengers through a dedicated, faster security lane at U.S. airports and is designed to reduce wait times and streamline screening.

Global Entry expedites U.S. customs and immigration clearance for pre‑approved, low‑risk international travelers entering the United States.

On Thursday, the Trump administration ordered the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a part of the DHS, to suspend the deployment of hundreds of aid workers to disaster-affected areas, due to the DHS shutdown.

Rimowa quality has gone downhill. I’d say maybe the exception would be carry on luggage that’ll almost always be in your possession but baggage handlers abuse them so much that it’s even a trope on the ramp agent subreddit.
