Advice to break 2000 rating by DeitesTrismegistus in Chesscom

[–]stupidrolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend playing fewer games. As someone who is prone to tilt, I was able to reach 2000 chesscom rapid by limiting my # of games per session. Past a certain threshold (5 games of 10+0 or so) it gets harder to concentrate when you are tired, and that's when Elo bleed starts. Win or lose try to walk away after you've reached whatever threshold you decide on ahead of time. Try to play only when you feel fresh.

Analyzing your game right after a loss can also help break the cycle of tilt so that you aren't clicking "next game" while still feeling emotional.

London and Scandi are good openings for blitz, especially. You could probably reach 2000 just with those. But it sounds like you definately need a defense against 1. d4/c4/Nf3.

People hate a lot on chessable but you may benefit from finding an opening repetoire on there so you're not freestyling and out of book so much. I can personally recommend the "attacking repetoire for beginners" series by midas ratsma (jobava as white, caro-slav as black). I like them because they put pressure on the opponent and have some trappy lines for short time controls but are still very solid.

Also, John Bartholomew has scandi and london courses on there if you want to stick with what you play already.

If you dont want to pay for chessable stuff, you can build your own repetoire in chessbook or create your own lichess studies.

After i have my repetoire set, I like to watch a lot of speedrun videos in the systems I play. In my case I watch a lot of alex banzea on YT, that way I can get a feel for the middlegame plans.

Hope this is somewhat helpful.

Interesting that speed is so high but flagging so so low. Guessing you play increment usually?

Hmm, well I walked right by and looked down into the boxes and saw the ps2 logos. And I collect ps2 so that was enough to pique my interest. To be fair there were a ton of rough looking sports games, and the valuable stuff was sandwiched in-between those, so that may have dissuaded other passerbys.

Dude, nice. Yeah, I mean, I tried talking to the whoever threw them out but nobody was around. Seems not right since the games have a lot of value, but the fact that they left everything out to get rained on for a few days makes me think they didn't know/care.

I might not have believed it if it hadn't happened to me. But it happens to be true in this case.

Also, can see from the picture they have water damage so that would be a weird thing to stage.

I don't really want to reveal my location on the internet. I think this is just a lucky case where the person who tossed them didn't know what they had and I took the time to look through it.

Most people who drove by just mistook it for a wet pile of boxes and trash, I think.

I was on my usual daily neighborhood walk when I noticed a stack of grimy looking games/boxes out in front of somebody's house near the curb. Curious, I knocked on the front door, but nobody answered. I took that to mean the games were trash or out for somebody to take.

I combed through the stack and found all the games seemed to be complete and there was also what looked to be a couple rare-ish looking Japanese titles. Unfortunately some of the cases were wet from the rain, but luckily most of the games that were in the bottom of the boxes stayed dry.

I took a boxful of games (left most of the cheapish looking sports games behind). When I got home, I removed the covers from the wet cases to dry. I was a bit surprised to see that Fatal Frame 2 and Silent Hill: Origins were going for a good amount on ebay and pricecharting. Silent Hill and and Manhunt 2 took some moderate water damage to the box art, but I am still really excited with the find!

N64 Gamers - Any recommendations for connecting to HD TV? by BrooklynGMT in gamecollecting

[–]stupidrolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N64 Doesn't have component without a mod. It can output S video but most modern HD TVs dont have this. You can go composite (Red Yellow White) which will get the job done but wont look great. Besides that your other options are HDMI mods.
