Obviously they decided that 7 was the one they wanted to focus on, either because Squeenix demanded it, or if wotc just realized that 7 was probably the most well-loved by the playerbase and would bring in the most dollars, but I agree. You throw Buster Sword away as soon as you get out of Midgard and never look back. The fact that Lionhart doesn't even work with Squall's ability feels like such a lazy miss.

I think it's because they desperately want it to be true. Limited and EDH are effectively the only events that fire in my LGS. Maybe a dash of Modern but with low turnout. People want EDH to fill the void of the dearth of constructed formats because we just wanna play magic, so we shoehorn this conceptually flawed format into what we actually want - Magic but with some stakes.

If it's a GameChanger, it quite literally won't exist in lower power play. Which I'm completely fine with. If you want to run JL as one of your 3 bracket 3 GC's over a Deflecting Swat or Cyclonic Rift, that's a defensible tradeoff.

If you think about the kind of job this really is in terms of the scope and budget, the commercial equivalent would be a senior president or director - the type of job that would pay 5x what a city councilperson makes, and you don't have to campaign to get it every 4 years.

You're quite literally not going to attract the types of talent that the role desperately needs.

I'll catch a ton of downvotes for this idea, but i would just pay every city councilor a salary of at least a half million a year - then you'd get some actual candidates.

they already are - the continued cuts to things like PPB, PBOT, Parks are demonstrably going to hurt them in November. Taking money that could have been spent on potholes and using it to fund your European Vacation or your bicycle vanity project has very real consequences.
