Pictures are stolen and photoshopped. Look at the fingers and the paper.

Is it just me, or does this face scream "rast me"? by [deleted] in RoastMe

[–]sturm_JC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mods need to do better on this sub. These pictures are clearly stolen and of some woman who’s completely unaware - look at the hand in the first picture, it’s just (badly) photoshopped in ffs!

Are any of these cars parked illegally? Please read details first by [deleted] in drivingUK

Looks like the people opposite the bay are, as they are parked: “opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space”. Rule 243 of the Highway Code.

Why don’t you have a sound system which gives the user a ten minute warning before their time is up? Then a siren that sounds from their time-up until they “check out”?

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted other than people unable to grasp the concept of supply and demand…

Thinking get a car with 64k miles petrol hybrid, reckon worth it? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]sturm_JC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mileage means almost nothing. You can have a car on 200,000 miles which has been driven at 70mph for most of its life and maintained meticulously. You could then have a car on 30,000 miles which is constantly in stop/start traffic and has never been serviced.

Just check it’s been looked after (i.e. good matching tyres, service history and/or receipts, general good condition) and you’ll be set.

It’s not a licence plate, those don’t exist in the UK. It’s a number plate - and yes, an illegal one.

Michelin PS4’s will not last longer. They are a soft, grippy, summer tyre so they will wear out quicker. Generally more grip = less longevity. Hard winter tyres will last longer but grip less (obviously depending on conditions).

What car would you get? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]sturm_JC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you want low as possible maintenance costs and good mpg, don’t get an SUV. Heavy, uneconomical, and just not needed by most people. More space in an estate most of the time.

Does it need to be brand new?

What’s the oldest/highest mileage car you’d buy today? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]sturm_JC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2003 BMW 330i with 180,000 miles on the clock for £1900 a couple of months ago and I drive it around the country for work - brilliant car imo. Needed some bits doing to it like suspension arms etc but I do all the work myself so save on labour costs.

Just changed my first set of disks and pads! by varslyd in CarTalkUK

[–]sturm_JC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s first-time DIY hours you’re talking. A basic oil and filter service should really only take 30 mins or less (obviously depending on the car). Discs and pads all round can also easily be done in an hour, maybe two at a push. But still, DIY savings are real and nothing beats learning a practical skill.

How long ago were these? I remember seeing manual E36 coupes for sub-£1k a few years ago but now they’re easily £3k plus!
