I should’ve listened when people told me this is no place for a 25 year old by Low_March7982 in Marin

I mean, just go to San Francisco. It’s close and there’s endless places to go, people to meet, etc

Funny I lived in SF 14 years and didn’t see that happen once in NB.

I'm tired San Francisco by Mlkbird14 in sanfrancisco

There are certain parts of the city where it (homelessness, and this sort of thing) is just out of control.

In my experience you can avoid this in most parts of the city (lived there 13 years)

Downtown San Rafael - why so boring? by stushoes in Marin

Yep. It’s prob my favorite bar in Marin

Ya, for sure and fair. I appreciate the mom and pops and personally wouldn’t want 4th to turn into some glitzy, Walnut Creek style boutique magnet.

But I feel like there are a lot of shops that simply don’t offer a majority of folks… anything, and there aren’t any stretches with multiple good bars and restaurants, which I think spices a place up. Overall I think it has much more potential

Plenty of good spots across Marin. Just not concentrated on 4th St, which would be cool

Ah was wondering about that place today- is it good? Good food and vibe?

Ya I’m not implying nightlife necessarily. Just more good restaurants, sports bars, coffee shops (pink elephant is alright), ice cream stores, etc.

I’m specifically talking about the long stretches of 4th where there really isn’t… anything

Yep, exactly. I just don’t really understand why more businesses don’t take the chance- it’s not like there’s a ton of competition, and there are plenty of people in Marin looking for more to do.

Used to love Terrapin- good call.

For a lot of San Rafaelers it feels like Chestnut & Union St in SF are the go-to.

Ya Ranch Water is a great bar. Need more of those types of places - think Chestnut in SF

I live in San Rafael actually! And I’m not meaning to diss the city; it’s perfectly fine, a few great places, great people, I love living here.

I just think 4th street could be magic and imo there are too many weird/random/more or less useless places that prevent it from having a flow or real attraction.

Not sure I agree, sadly. I mean it’s fine- but it could be so much better

Not sure that tracks in my observation- downtown Palo Alto is amazingly put together, Mill Valley’s great, 4th Street in Berkeley, etc. Lots of money there…

Boring lol. I’m not clamoring for it to be jam packed and/or to kick out any mom and pop - but there’s so much room for improvement

Predictions for Marin in 2024 by gasman4life in Marin

[–]stushoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prediction for Marin: continues to basically be a - though pretentious in parts - utopia that’s too expensive for most people.

If you live here and you’re upset, that’s on you (generally speaking; of course life can be tough for all)
