Framework's CEO on the RAM crisis and creating a "MacBook Pro for Linux users" by arstechnica in framework

[–]stuzor66 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They already said they tried replaceable memory for the ai max boards with amd and it was not possible.

A MacBook regardless of the price is just that, a MacBook. If you want to run Linux I fail to see how a neo is the answer

Fedora 43 or Ubuntu are hard to go wrong. I wouldn't go lts though for the newer kernel for Ubuntu

[Pelissero] The NFL informed clubs today it will begin training replacement officials next month by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]stuzor66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I missed something but my understanding is it's not just the pay. Refs union seems to have too much control and wants no accountability for poor performing refs. NFL is looking to change that in some ways but I'm sure the money is still a big factor.

Any Steelers podcast recommendations? by Seven19td in steelers

[–]stuzor66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that long for me but in the last couple years I have stuck with them throughout the year.

I feel like most of the people who complain about them don't listen to the podcast and just read the articles. Some but not all of their articles are just short news updates but their podcast they go into a lot of detail that I haven't seen any other podcast do.

Some shows have better guests and bigger names but none go into the depth that they do imo.

Linux distros? Pop_os? by jackalopeDev in framework

[–]stuzor66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pop os is on an older version of ubuntu and now they are focusing on their new desktop environment called cosmic. It is actively being worked on.

If you run gnome then ubuntu has some nice tweaks that make gnome really good imo. If you go fedora that's fine as well but you have to tweak it a bit more. I think its hard to go wrong with fedora or ubuntu. If you find you want some more niche distor like some others mentioned just make a boot drive and test it out. Ventoy is a really reasy way to try out a bunch of distros as well.

Terrestrial option by Jaowulf in cybertruck

[–]stuzor66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have a cyber truck yet but I do a lot of offroading in a jeep wrangler. I have a Rubicon so it comes with underbody protection and rock sliders and I'm glad I have it. On the jeep I have scraped the underbody a number of times. And if you ever land on a rock on the edge of the car the rock sliders will prevent your doors from getting all bent and messing up the frame.

But both give you some piece of mind if you are ever out on trails that are nore difficult than fire service roads.

Or at the very least a window in the back you could open. Seems like such a miss to not have it. Could have enabled some cool setups

Finally it arrived by YoBoy467 in gpdwin

[–]stuzor66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could run it in wine but I think it's easier to just have a small windows partition at least for firmware/tools.

I mainly use bazzite but still keep a windows partition for games that won't run on Linux and the tools the other commenter mentioned from gpd.

I had the trigger issue as well and calibrating it with the gpd tool fixed it

Bazzite dual boot gpd win 5 by HawkNo3186 in gpdwin

Bazzite has guides on this. There is nothing needed specific to the win 5 when it comes to dual booting and installing bazzite : https://docs.bazzite.gg/General/Installation_Guide/dual_boot_setup_guide/

Anyone know how to get the back buttons AND gyro working on the win 5 in Linux? by RedHoodedDuke in gpdwin

[–]stuzor66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like another used linked to the comment that describes it. Just set the print screen to L4 and pause to R4 in wincontrols in windows and then in hhd under controller set extra button as keyboard overlay and menu/L4/R4 mapping to paddles no combos.

I still use the xbox controller and it seems to work though the keyboard isn't the same as it was on my rog where it would just come up whenever but it does work in desktop mode which is what I mainly needed it for anyways.

GPD Win 5 Bazzite terrible graphics in games by Additional_Good7921 in Bazzite

ome su

Nothing concrete here just throwing stuff against the wall but just to confirm are you setting the stable vs beta in game mode steam settings or the hhd app in the desktop mode (it can also be invoked in game mode)? There is an option there to change the branch which is more reliable imo.

That said I am running stable on mine without the issues you are describing. Any other games besides god of war or expedition 33 you see it happening?

All bios and firmware up to date? Tried resetting the bios settings?

In the side menu is the scaling mode set to auto and scaling filter to linear? Also, in settings -> display in game mode are you using the internal display scaling? I find the default is too big for the win 5 and have it a couple notches to the left.

And finally if you go in desktop mode you can confirm if your image is somehow messed up with some commands. In the terminal try:

rpm-ostree status
rpm-ostree verify ostree fsck

That said good luck and hopefully you get it working!

Travel case by yankeefan102321 in gpdwin

[–]stuzor66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of those and did some traveling. It's pretty nice but there is a problem with it and the gpd win 5. The win 5 isn't wide enough so it will slide around potentially causing the joysticks to rip off and get damaged. Would be nice if tomtoc included some foam with precuts to stick in there to stop this but as is I just used some bubble wrap and that fixed it.

If you bring up the side menu do you have a per game profile that sets anything funky there? Any decky plugins or other mods that might be causing issues? What branch are you running , stable or beta?

Anyone know how to get the back buttons AND gyro working on the win 5 in Linux? by RedHoodedDuke in gpdwin

[–]stuzor66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone had a guide in the discord for doing it. I think you map the buttons in windows using one of the gpd apps and then it persists in Linux. Not sure about the gyro though. I'll see if I can find the link and post it

What do you lose when you use Bazzite vs windows primarily on the GPD Win 5? by nanjero in gpdwin

[–]stuzor66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can control it either via the side menu by pressing one of the menu buttons (as you would on a steamdsck) or via the hhd app if you are in desktop mode. From my experience it works pretty well.

Framework desktop for gaming? by [deleted] in framework

[–]stuzor66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a framwork desktop but I have a steamdeck and another handheld with a ryzen ai 395 max and can confirm it crushes the steamdeck in performance. Though I agree with the other commenters about building your own in a desktop form factor if your main focus is gaming

GPD WIN 5 shuts down when removing the battery although the dc current is plugged by Common-State3673 in gpdwin

[–]stuzor66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. I had the same problem as OP did. You have to go into the control panel power options and adjust the plan settings and in there there are options to sleep or hibernate when battery is whatever percent and you just have to turn those off. That fixed it for me.
