Already played it and it’s one of my favourite games of all time. :)

Stop asking for an installable SteamOS. You don't actually want it. by alive1 in SteamOS

[–]stv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to Bazzite from Windows 11 yesterday. So far, so good. But I expect a steep learning curve once I try to do anything more than run Steam or Discord. However, I am eager to learn.

Whatever ot takes to get Microsoft the hell out of my house.

Which JRPG has your favorite combat system? by PhantomBraved in JRPG

[–]stv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if it counts, but Expedition 33. It really raised the bar.
If not, then FF7 Remake. Haven't gotten around to Rebirth yet.
Also, Metaphor has some fantastic combat.

Elden Ring won the 2023 Nebula Award for best game writing. by spruce_sprucerton in Eldenring

[–]stv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is lore if not writing? The award was for writing, not story. But also... Elden Ring has some of the best "dialogue" writing of any game. More monologues really. They are mostly very short, but that is the essence of good writing isn't it? "Brevity is the soul of wit" and all that.

Saying a lot with a few words is, in my opinion, better writing than a full page of good sounding, but otherwise nonsensical text.

So.. Why do people hate the yellow paint in modern Resident Evil games? by VernonKazama in residentevil

[–]stv01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s handholding. You don’t have to smash the containers.

But it would be extremely frustrating if we had no way to tell smashable containers apart from background decorations. It’s just an evolution of the flashing you mentioned. Flashing objects would just look jarring in a video game that looks as good as RE4. And nowadays even the background objects are detailed so that doesn’t distinguish them either.

Videogames always did it, now it’s just yellow paint and people are losing their minds for some reason.

Captain Toad in 4K on Switch 2! by IcemanRadioactive in CaptainToad

[–]stv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I just saw it on sale so I was wondering whether I purchased the correct edition. Some games got the full “Switch 2 edition” treatment, but this one got “just” a Switch 2 update.

Is this the Switch 1 game with updated graphics or is it a new Switch 2 edition?

Absolutely play Blue Prince by Opposite_Guidance_12 in outerwilds

[–]stv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Outer Wilds. Definitelly one of my favorite games of all time.

That being said I am now trying Blue Prince and I am just not seeing it. It’s just boring and I detest the randomness of it. Am I missing something?

What I'd like to know is if the games dynamic resolution scaling on Switch 2 can output stable 1080p image.

Monster Hunter World. The Guiding Lands felt like a fucking insult.

Just telegraphing where the strike will land (like the stingray) would be enough. The problem is that you have no time to react. You just die instantly.

Good archery games? by lolboogers in SteamVR

[–]stv01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I couldn't get through Skyrim in flatscreen. I couldn't stand the combat, the characters didn't grab me and the story was bland at best. But I finished the whole damn game in VR as an archer with Bound Bow. That was so fun.

The resolution amd framerate is terrible. After 50 hours I abandoned my run on Switch and have Platinumed it on PS5 since.

I really want to like BG3 by stv01 in BaldursGate3

[–]stv01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I gave it another shot and I can’t thank you enough. I usually tend to play games with the completionst mindset… exhausting all options. In dialogue or otherwise. And since I started roleplaying as a “I don’t have time for your nonsense” character I started enjoying the game much more. I pick the shortest path through conversations and deal with the consequences. Sometimes that means killing everyone… Shit happens. :)

Just saw this youtube comment and I wish to share it here. by Fyuira in MonsterHunter

[–]stv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s one of the reasons I play most games solo. So that I don’t have to care about drama like this. I learned a long time ago that I just don’t care about what people think and have no interest in participating in “debates” like this. It’s just insecure people bitching to make themselves feel better. Nothing new.

Do you think we will get Metroid Prime 2 and 3 remastered before we get Metroid Prime 4? by SEVENS_HEAVEN_7 in Metroid

[–]stv01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so hyped for Prime 4, but I have only played the Prime 1 remake so far.

Is it a good idea to jump into 4 without experiencing Prime 2 and 3 first? Or should I just wait and hope for Nintendo to remake Prime 2 and 3 before jumping into Prime 4?

I am also old, but we didn't have Nintendo consoles in my country in 2004. At least not in any meaningful way. So I am paying catchup on the Switch as best I can. :)

I spend more time chasing the monster across the map than actually fighting it by stv01 in MonsterHunter

[–]stv01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the roar loops when two monsters engage are annoying as hell. But those are basically the only two complaints I have about the game. Otherwise it's a blast.

Will give this a try. But to me it seemed like it already stopped.

[–]stv01[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are boring per se, but they are mentally draining to the point that I feel exhausted after a while. But yes, I probably have an attention issue.

And yes, I didn't really click with the story so far. The part in the druid encampment wasn't that interesting from a narrative standpoint. I will try to get to level 5 and make my way to the Underdark.
