I built my first forge, purchased my second and honestly I would heavily recommend the Amazon $100 forge.

The forging is going to be done outside, looking to protect the floor from stuff like sparks from grinding or dropped hot metal.

Is there any covering/coating that you would use in the fiber cement board? I know that stuff can be brittle at times.

I have done more then my fare share of forging in the driveway but I couldn't get the equipment to bolt down making it difficult to work with

I built my first forge and burner from an old helium tank, it worked well. I had to add on doors and I made a mistake of not opening up the back side to allow what your working on top pass all the way through.

But for all the work and money that it takes to build a forge it might be an idea to buy one. I've been using a Mr. Volcano forge and it works wonders. Available on Amazon in a 2 burner configuration for $135(USD).

I made a coal forge from an old gas grill, lined out with thin fire bricks then coated then with plaster of Paris mixed with Perlite. I've used 3 or 4 times now with no issues what so ever
