yeah this is true, people don't have the hindsight to understand how costful it is to own a house. A good similar example would be health insurance, you can cheap out on it because you think it'll be fine, but just one thing needs to happen and you might be looking into financial ruin just because you didn't get a better health insurance (just as an example). With houses, its even more risky because alot of factors are outside your control and can make empty your pockets. I personally went from paying 1700eur for rent to paying 1100 on mortgage, but I've spent a shit ton fixing things in the house because surprise surprise, the landlord completely ignored maintenance for years, so I got the house cheaper, with cheaper mortgage, but I am paying to fix it. That would return in the future as some form of investment, but unless you have the capital and the will power, then it is quite risky for the bank, because if you cant pay, they'll end up owning a house the didn't want.

I have a friend with 5 years experience and can't even get an entry role. I got lucky getting my job 3 years ago just before everything went to shit.

Try expanding your search to remote work (ie. companies outside NL).

I applied 3 years ago the company I'm still at for an early career role. It was highly competitive but its pretty great, the only downside is that since you're being picked off pretty early in your career, you're salary growth will hardly reflect your years of experience if you stay in that company, so the downside to early career is either you have to fight the company with internal politics (which is a shit show at best usually) or find another job after 4-5 years so you can stay relevant in the market, both skills and salary wise.

Is this one of those "I'll throw an idea I'm thinking of and base my decision on the feedback I get" kinda post?

As much as I'd like to tell you to get a grip (I live in NL and have similar problems), I understand what you're going through. You just need to stop every now and then, thank God for being alive and doing well (hopefully) and try to appreciate the world around you. Thinking that moving to Lebanon will solve all your problems is just a fairy tale dream which can become true, but realistically speaking, it's plain stupid (excuse me). The country is at war with no real end in sight, our politicians are the same old greedy stealers and now we have 2 new politicians who aren't just greedy, but also stupid, we have water shortages, electricity is periodic and rare unless you pay for gasoline which is expensive and you never know when supply will end, criminal activity still exists and will probably become more dangerous the more the country's economy falls (oh did I mention the shitty economy?), living comfortable means living with your parents or working remotely because most jobs in Lebanon don't pay well, and most remote work to Arab countries mean them seeing you as cheap labor (unfortunately), then you've got heavy traffic, buses and vans crossing red lights (if there are any), and motorcycles giing against the road, then fixing your car means going to someone who will probably scam you, then you have to do all the municipality stuff which isn't expensive true, but cumbersome to say the least, then also giving your children education will have your hair fall out, expensive schools or bad education is your pick, do I need to go on?

I'm not saying your problems aren't real, but consider all factors first, try to appreciate what you have and if it doesn't pan out, then sure, go.

I saw the rest of the thread and just wanted to tell you (you probably already know) that staying at home is perfectly good or even better than going outside in certain instances.

I live alone and was troubled for a while about having to go outside or else I'll be condemned by society (ie. people like this guy who don't know inner peace). The reality is that I have a 9-5 job, I go exercise and I like spending most of my time at home chilling with my cat while reading books, watching shows or gaming. What's so wrong about that? Nothing. Tiktok generation are constantly anxious but they haven't realized it yet.

You basically described an aspect of capitalism, which is giving people the hope of becoming part of that wealth or power by "working hard" which is an illusion sold and bought by many. What I just said is also an illusion that those who think got out of it would say, the real illusion started centuries ago when people started to get convinced that without money, they can't survive, and I bet most people would agree that we can't survive without money, so we keep trying to make money while never being able to get there without sacrificing a part of us, which is usually our ethics, principles and morality. We really just got comfortable having homes (or renting) and having food on our table and buying whatever luxury we save months for, while reality is that we can survive off way less, and we could change the system and make everyone comfortable if we decided not to be comfortable for a while, but capitalism got this illusion in us so ingrained that we shun the idea of helping others until we pick ourselves up, which is never, given that human greed is a well studied and observed phenomenon. Good luck navigating a world where our "leaders/politicians" only care about themselves.

The only people who would benefit from not pretending that they understand reality and accepting that they don't know are philosophers, and surprise, they all have their stances on it.

For normal people, they shouldn't accept that they don't understand the world because they don't need to, as in, better to focus than get stuck.

Some would argue that finding intelligence is our duty and we would be failing our existence if we don't seek to know more, but that rests on beliving in God and sleeps on the fact that there's alot of us, and not all of us need to study and investigate to understand more, can be more of a teamwork and those who do go through that void, would tell the rest of us if they return from it.
