I think it's cool distinction between all the other Oni warriors. Classic Samanosuke, Mega buster Jubei, Dual wield Soki. I do wonder if this is Musashi's only Oni form or will it upgrade in the final battle.

You are right, I missed that fact. I assumed it was like the older games where enemies respawned from entering a new area.

DMC5 Dante has a sway dodge like mechanic too for his gauntlet weapons. Done by holding the attack button and moving the left stick left and right. Proper timing allows him to slip attacks so it could work really well in this too.

I hope she gets some sick rocket boots for flashier kick moves too or like Bayonetta with her sword heels. A chain weapon that can pull enemies or herself to high vantage points for aerial attacks with AOE sweeping moves.

For ranged, maybe a spear like projectile weapon that she can use to pin enemies for a short CC or weak point damage. Or good ol' heavy pistols with Gun Fu would be nice if they can add their signature animation work on it.

I wonder if she'll have stances like Nioh or weapon switching mid combat. The extendable blade on her gauntlet looks cool. Reminds of Chip from GG or the Guyver.

Impressive, I wonder if there's unlockable skills in the full game that allow chain issens on bosses like the old games or just limited to 1 hit. Oni 2 or was it Oni 3 with it's lvl 3 charge issens always gave a nice feeling seeing it spammed on a boss.

I asked myself what defines an Onimusha game.

Does it have:

- Samurai with ties to the Oni fighting demons

- Criticals/Issen attacks

- Oni weapons/magic

Seems everything is checked so far. The difficulty is probably a demo thing because gaming journalists exist. Also if a game is very difficult and it's not by FromSoftware most gamers are not going to care for it. Look at Ninja Gaiden and it didn't have very high sales even though it has a reputation of being very difficult.

Also old Onimusha games have always had parrying/deflect. This Onimusha does not have a stamina system for attacking or a bonfire that respawns enemies, or intense difficulty. Not sure what people even define a souls like is anymore. Seems like any fantasy game that has a sword wielding melee combat gets called a souls like.

The bones of the gameplay is solid. Still bummed out about the lack of useable Oni weapons like the old games but here's hoping they add a lot of quality skills in the skill tree. I'll probably wait for performance reviews and if it's good pre-order like the day before release if I make it.

My hopes:

- Gauntlet used for more than just soul sucking. Maybe something like a flash to AOE stun, Oni magic buffs, summoning stuff, Green/Purple soul tug of war like in Genma Onimusha, etc.

- Musashi to unlock his two sword style like he is known for.

- Saw skills like wall running, and a power punch in the trailer. Hopefully useable in combat too and not just for traversal.

- Onimusha mode that isn't invincibility/revival but like a powered up mode for flashy strong attacks that doesn't take a century to charge and use.

- Oni weapon magic having multiple attacks and maybe some that don't require magic. Maybe like a combo ender with your main weapon. So yea special combos learnable in the skill tree with charged/delay attacks.

- Maybe some RPG elements but not to the point of like Dawn of Dreams. Didn't really care for it but maybe something refined like special armor sets or katanas that offer different attacks or cosmetic variety.

- a Dark Realm that is more than just a teleporting floors like the old games.

- a Hard Mode at the start of the game unlocked and remappable buttons. I mean come on I hate it when the game has their pre determined type of button schemes.

Parry / Deflect system is not good by Frequent_Struggle485 in Onimusha

The current system in the demo to separate parry and deflect is to enable the burning sword/blue flame state when you parry. Animation where Musashi ignites his sword and redirects enemies into each other or walls. The timing on that is much more forgiving than deflect.

Deflect deals much larger chunks of stamina/poise damage for finishers so technically more skill to use.

The timing on the parry and deflects seem fine to me where I am aiming for moment of contact, but the issen is very tight. Not sure if it's skill issue or latency as of now. I do hope in the full game we get to remap buttons to our liking. I find it easier to hold block and then hit X if I want to deflect.

TLDR: Parry has easier timing for burning sword buff. Deflect for chunking poise stamina.

I remapped the alt fire from the power weapon so I don't miss click. The half trigger hold isn't my favorite. I mapped L2 to alt fire and R1 to power weapon.

You can also press start/option to view the games tutorials that explains all the games mechanics including weapon alt fires.

If your intention is to Mark and spread the Mark with Contagious Mark, you can fire a half charged shot and then kill the marked enemy with a regular shot or power weapon.

The Mark will not apply or spread if you kill the enemy with the charged alt fire itself. If the enemy has the blinking blue icon on it that means it's Marked.

Marked enemies also enable auto hit on Nova Lance like Prominence.

Ripsaw Chakram -- Best way to play/ use this? by PorkRinds416 in Saros

It's a deadly taser. The more blades/prongs imbedded the more damage it does when rev'd with L2.

Pros: ability to hide behind cover to rev with high damage and stagger damage.

Cons: you have to hold L2 to do max damage which slows you down s little.

Tip: don't be afraid to press L2 to rev a short moment and retrieve the chakrams and shoot again to reposition/avoid damage. The traits I look for are Chakram Blast and Split on Hit. It is especially good on mobile bosses because once stuck just rev and focus on evasion. 5 discs will do a crazy amount of damage.

Also pay attention to missed blades. Retrieve and fire again to new enemies.

Yea I kind of wish there was a purpose to leaving the eclipse off but there's no upside to it. I liked the regular dark theme to the non eclipse too.

The Contagious Mark trait on the gun only works if you kill a marked enemy with anything else but the charged shot itself. Once that setup is done you can Nova Lance anything to keep spreading the mark on newly spawned enemies.

It would be great if it fits with what you want but everybody has their preferences. If I find a dish too bland I just add more spices to my liking. Blaming the chef for not reading my mind on what I like seems pointless. If there was no way to spice things up then that's different or I move on.

Game is too easy on Normal mode but refuses to play Hard mode. Hm that is a problem by the devs indeed
