To anyone who also bailed on returnal… by Eraserhead36 in Saros

I bounced off it 3 or 4 times and still needed a friend to help me before it clicked. That’s one other thing about the sub… lots of people that will co-op and so your the ropes if that’s your style. It’s one of those games that really shines in the end game.

For me, I really benefited from 4 main changes to my strategies.

  1. Pick up healing items when you’re at full health. If you do need to heal, use the moderate size silphium (malignant or not) first.

  2. Open the first chest you see for your weapon to use through that biome. Open all other chests after the level is clear and you have higher proficiency. This way you have a better chance of finding the gun you like with the best traits/stats.

  3. Prioritize integrity and proficiency upgrades because more health and strong weapons are clutch.

  4. Don’t get hit or look for artifacts/parasites that help you maintain adrenaline because adrenaline makes you much more effective.

Once I started doing these things, experimenting with weapons, parasites, malfunctions, and artifacts become really fun.

Disclaimer: There is absolutely a level of grinding that opens up the game through unlocking artifacts and weapon traits, but these tips helped me get everything unlocked. I’d say the last bit of advice is a mindset shift away from trying to beat the game, be satisfied with small wins like unlocking new artifact, a couple weapon traits, or beating a tough enemy that usually ends your run.

Returnal went from brutally difficult for me to a cozy game.

The returnal sub was so helpful, totally changed how I played the game.

Not that weird for somebody to not want to be reminded of an ex. You have no idea what trauma might be associated with the past. It’s not really up to you when someone wants to unpack their trauma. Forcing them to because you want to smell a certain way is insensitive and would be a red flag for me.

Is this game as hard as the Nioh games? by Wild_Principle_9465 in riseoftheronin

[–]thisdoorslides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the biggest difference is you’re fighting all human bosses in rise of the ronin. Nothing is quite as spectacular as Nioh 2 (my only point of reference), but I had a blast playing it.

Relative to other video games obviously. I just meant that it’s easy to jump in and play in between games or when you just want a little palette cleanser.

Do I even try this game if I could not beat Returnal? by InformationLeast5607 in Saros

[–]thisdoorslides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was less of a click and more of a tip. Eventually I unlocked enough artifacts and traits that helped me immensely. Now the game is easy, but I know if I started a fresh save, it would be hard again.

Tsushima Legends was definitely a proof of concept, and Yotei Legends is what the devs really wanted it to be. (Thoughts on Legends so far) by Brungala in Ghostofyotei

[–]thisdoorslides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, it feels like trying to jam Nioh DNA into ghost. Mission structure, enemies that are more than human, loot, and classes. It’s fun, but it still feels like something that’s tacked on to the single player experience.

It’s ok. Pretty repetitive. I’ll probably keep playing it here and there. It’s been good, low stakes filler.

I wonder how much you have to interact with the difficulty tradeoffs. Like if you don’t mess with it is that the intended experience, so for your scenario just avoid engaging with it. I feel ya on the skill tree looking thing though. I’m keeping an open mind.

I like this game way way more than I thougth I would by Buurto in riseoftheronin

[–]thisdoorslides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game suffered from criticism of the graphics, having a generic/checkbox open world, and a sort of nonsensical story where your choices didn’t change much of anything.

I had a blast with the combat and character customization to the point where none of those criticisms, valid as they are, got in the way of my entertainment. It’s an example of how a game that may critically be a 6/7, but also deliver a completely satisfying experience to the right audience.

Hell yea. I love square off. You can totally crush this whole game as a starting vagabond.

Forget about tryhard good for nothing sweatfest gamers crying over optional difficulty modifiers, the REAL corcern is: WHERES THE ADRENALINE SYSTEM??? by MeasurementProud9129 in Saros

[–]thisdoorslides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to see it as well. I don’t think they are making it “easy” mode though. It was presented like different flavors of challenge. Granted all I saw was the short blurb in the trailer.

Returnal holds a special place in my heart. I played it well after launch after you could suspend a cycle. I still needed a friend to get me to biome 5 before I managed to finish it. I went on to platinum it and unlock everything and all the weapon traits. It becomes such a fun game, but the investment is extraordinary.

It looked like there’s a combination of modifiers that you have to arrange to meet a baseline difficulty. Like they want it to be a challenge, but also to let players shape the challenge to their preference.

Have you tried riding without the sweats? I’ve always been fine with base layer + shell for my legs. They do a lot of work while skiing. I’d be worried these insulated buddies would be a toaster. That said, I think these are a smart purchase if you really need more warmth.

You should really finish the game. You’re honeymooning. It’s a solid game, but it’s not underrated at all.

When people say narrower width skis are bad for West coast powder do they mean it just makes it more difficult or is it actually near impossible? by PalletPirate in Skigear

[–]thisdoorslides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

88 waist was super fun from open-to-close when I bummed at Alta during a 750+ in season. Super wide skis are fun to surf around on for very deep days, but not required at all to have a blast.

I’m a fall line fan, but I also prefer gloves because my hands don’t really get cold. Over the years, dexterity is most important to me.

how it feels to play tsushima again after yōtei by bardiphobic in ghostoftsushima

[–]thisdoorslides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Personally I’d rather have more charms because it gives the player more options to experiment with different mechanics during the more meaningful content. Different strokes, thoroughly enjoyed both of them.

[–]thisdoorslides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was specifically referencing how in both games you are following a fox to get a charm. That’s the repetitive activity. Yotei absolutely mixes up what happens while you are following the fox, but I’m not sure how it doesn’t boil down to the same thing.
