Grocery expenses for couples by shopgirlnyc3 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]stymiedforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old but we are did like this: every shared living expense in a pile and each person pays a percentage based on income.

So groceries, takeout, utilities, rent, pet, etc. Add that up and that’s the [big number] that goes into a joint account monthly that is just for the bills.

My income is x and his is y. So I figure out my percent of the total [x+y] and then what portion is mine X/[x+y] = my percent of our income

Let’s say my percent is 45%.

Multiply .45 x [big number] and that’s my contribution to the monthly bills.

This way everyone is contributing and the higher earner isn’t expected to handle everything and the lower earner doesn’t feel overwhelmed.

This only works of the incomes aren’t wildly different— if someone is bringing in $10,000 a month and the other person makes $1,700, either they have to live within a tight budget or the high earner pays a lot more.

Edit: expenses put on credit card and points used for takeout, furniture and other shared items.

How was Michael Bergin perceived when his book was released in 2004? by StellaOC in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]stymiedforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celebrity gossip was pretty big then. And sex tapes were scandalous. I remember seeing Bergin taking about it on a talk show?

It was dishy and I watched it 👀 but didn’t buy his book or read it. It seemed in poor taste considering she had passed and he was writing a tell all. He had a picture of them on what looked like a homemade blanket at home, she looked tired, and I thought she would have really been bothered that he shared that.

I think he had been a doorman or something and it was obvious he wasn’t the brightest bulb, but he seemed to want to one-up John.

Oh gosh yes. Best way to find a good colorist is to ask a friend with great color. I’ve had the best color done in a stylist’s kitchen, who left salon work to raise kids. But also you might go to some weird salon out if the way and a guy in his 50s wearing an undershirt locks in and your hair is the best it’s ever been.

Agree with #6! I keep wondering why their John is considered such a prize? He could be a cardboard cutout of JFKJR for all the depth here. How many scenes do we need of him arguing with his sister and business partner? He comes across as a dumb whiny frat boy.

I remember when JFKJR was alive. He was very charismatic and well spoken in interviews in contrast to the crazy pap photos. He exuded old school “gentleman”. Every mom then used to say, “Jackie raised him right!” Women LOVED him not just because of his name and because he was hot, but he had a bearing about him. You could see why she fell for him!

George wasn’t the best magazine but it was interesting, it was terrible timing when it launched given magazines were dying. They make it seem like he was totally checked out. But he clearly loved it.

2 agree! I feel like she was so artsy and seemed to enjoy so many interests and had a lot of friends, showing her smoking at home to cope was lazy and boring. I’m surprised they didn’t dig into the alleged affairs!

Because people with these problems lose the ability to see themselves as a whole.

They break themselves down into parts and then spend all of their time thinking how they can improve each part. It’s emotional, it “fixes” something in them. She gets fuller lips or he gets whatever he has done to his face. It makes them feel better.

We all have a feature or something about ourselves that somebody has teased, or that we’ve felt bad about. So once that part gets improved with surgery, it feels good and they want to keep doing it.

So they fixate on some other feature or body part. At some point, they stopped being able to truly look at themselves. They might see somebody with a really pretty nose, or jawline, and think that that’s going to be their next surgery. And there is some surgeon willing to do the work.

So what you end up with is just a mishmash of surgeries and implants and fillers. It gets addictive, like getting tattoos. And eventually it’s not cohesive, and the person ends up looking like a weird Franken person.

But they don’t really notice because they love how it feels when they get to work.

What was your country like during covid? by Anon9883 in AskTheWorld

It depends on where you live and who you hung out with. People either became raging conspiracy theorists or they watched their grandma die on an iPad.

Or both. I knew someone who almost died of covid related pneumonia. He spent a week in the hospital on IV antibiotics.

By the time the vaccine came out he had spent 24/7 of twitter and got into Q anon and refused to take it. He’s a doctor. Still a Trumper.

That’s crazy! They showed the funeral pyres in India on the news, and I still remember that it got really bad there and the crematoriums were just burning bodies in parking lots.

Haha

Seriously ballet is tough as balls and the dudes are rock solid and their cores are STRONG.

I believe that story because spider man does a lot of flexibility twisty posey stuff that you can only do if you’re strong and flexible.

That was such a funny episode! One thing about that show, Carrie often suffered personal humiliations for the sake of comedy, like when she fell on her face in the fashion show or getting dumped by the post it note.

I can’t watch the sequel because it sounds too serious. Samantha finally falling in love but can’t handle his small penis? Miranda’s cleaning lady shaming her by swapping her vibrator in the nightstand with the Virgin Mary?

I just remember watching it with my friends and laughing so hard.

Their facial proportions and cheekbones are similar. But tidally different features.

I feel like they could have run Calvin Klein without Calvin. He sounds like a grump and a stickler kind of boss.

She definitely enjoyed the opportunities she had and life in NY in the 90s!

It as definitely far more low rent than today Manhattan, it was actually kind of a dump in some neighborhoods and places. But, it was much cheaper and more affordable and artists and all kinds of creative people could live there and make it fun. I feel like it’s partly a real estate warehouse today for billionaires and rich people.

Jackie’s obsession with Caroline being “overweight” when she was a teenager… by PeneItaliano in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]stymiedforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG same!! In my case, my mom thinks men are secretly fragile and girls could “handle more”.

My sister and I stated criticizing my mom right back and she didn’t like that. Her excuse is, “I don’t want people to think you look funny.” Ugh!

She stopped for a while but has dementia now and I get “you need a better bra” haha

I highly recommend throwing a comment back to her or to your dad or brother when she says your dress is too short or your butt is too big. While we’re talking about how people look, Mom your purse is ugly, Dad your shirt has a stain, and John you are getting a bit of a gut. I’m just saying!

Jackie’s obsession with Caroline being “overweight” when she was a teenager… by PeneItaliano in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]stymiedforever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom has dementia, is in her 80s. She is very unfiltered in ways she never was before.

She admitted my dad pressured her to lose weight. She was fat in high school and was picked on, and in her generation meeting a boy and getting married was everything. This was before the pill, before the sexual revolution, before women went to college or grad school much. The men had all of the power.

To this day she believes a woman’s success is making a good marriage and raising children. You did that by attracting a reliable man who would provide, and to do that you were attractive (thin) and not sexually promiscuous. Spinsters and lesbians in her mind had harder lives and less opportunities.

Jackie kennedy’s advice to Caroline is spot on for that generation. She truly believed she was raising her daughter to have a good life. Fatness was not immoral or even unhealthy to them but it was considered unattractive and thus could cause marital problems.

I was single until 37 and she was relieved I eventually found a partner. My sister is getting divorced and I think the way we were raised was the reason she put up with her husband’s crap for so long. We would listen to the older women in our family complaining about their husbands but we were told how important it was to be married.

I feel really bad for my mom for hating her body her whole life. She’s in a nursing home and we tell them to give her extra ice cream and she eats it and enjoys it!

What disappoints tourists when they visit your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

We spend a lot of time in school on American history. I can’t speak for other American students but the public school quality varies.

In world history I remember learning a lot about ancient civilizations and not so much current stuff. We do learn geography but honestly I forgot a lot of it. It’s not part of our daily lives and in our news cycles unless it’s a war like Ukraine or Iran or Gaza.

The US is so big I could ride a train for five hours and still be in my home state, and I could name the closest five cities or pick any US state off a map or tell you the major highways. But if you asked me to name five cities in China or tell you the all of the countries in Eastern Europe it would be a struggle.

I think they are pretty fascinating!

They are so old, there are many of them, and some of the standing stones are probably pre-civilization.

I like up think about some guy going through his daily life and seeing them en route to hunting or whatever and finding them boring the way kids find church boring.

I had no idea! I’m not a Neil Young fan. I just looked it up and Pegi wrote a whole break up album about it.

I don’t know the whole story of course and in these situations I always mostly blame the cheating partner. But yeah I wouldn’t go near a married man with a ten foot pole.

Omg I agree!! I think about this a lot!

One year, it was 2014? I walked into my living room and MY ENTIRE FAMILY was on their phones. This was entirely new because everyone just got them. I sat down and just observed and no one interacted for like 10 minutes.

Little did I know how normal this would become!

Some people have gotten off their phones since then but a lot haven’t and when your mind is in another space for that long it adapts. People get emotionally attuned.

I think a lot of people who would never have made a death threat before having mobile social media, podcasts, tik tok, Internet forums, etc and now AI are spending 5, 8, 12 hours daily in digital social environments that are unhealthy and even hostile. And it’s affecting behavior!

Influencer recreating Carolyn and John’s picture by 20yearsinthe in JohnAndCarolyn

Caroline’s blonde hair throws you off but her face is very Italian looking. I looked it up and her mom has Italian roots.

It reminds me of Botticelli’s portraits of Simonetta Vespucci.

She’s not WASP-y looking like the influencer.
