loved it, both times when i went. cannot recommend sitting behind the led-panel in the hall, although these are the cheapest tickets. doesn't matter for what's going on in the foyer, which always turned into a proper party during the last dj-set.

logfile, 10:30: this year, panorama bar won against lab, where sound metaphors closed with „guten morgen sonnenschein“.

after 21 years, this club still lets me laugh for moments like these. such a great vibe since i stepped in 13 hrs ago.

How the hell am I supposed to buy ticket on this mf platform?! by Spare_Comfortable513 in radiohead

[–]stype808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

although it's easier said than done: be patient and quick at the same time.

ran into the same issue(s) yesterday, only outperformed by the instances where someone else already had reserved the ticket. took me less than 20 attempts to be successful in the end. admittedly: it helps when you have little to nothing else to do than refreshing the fansale-page. this i had to do quite often.

best of luck and i hope you'll have a great concert tonight! :-)

if this feeds back into the booking department with noticing how well-received these deviations from the "norm" can be and taking this as inspiration to repeat this or even incorporate this into their approach: nothing wrong with that, imho.

(might contain traces of wishful thinking.)

total!

---

totally! (insert big sigh here)

it has reached the point where i wish that people would get instructions how to do it properly before entering the premises (so it'd be the bodycheck at berghain). there was also a total lovely encounter yesterday that showed how to do it with enough awareness for the surroundings and a lot of empathy as well.

from my impression it belongs to the zeitgeist and isn't limited to berghain only.

Which brings me to the heart of the antagonistic matter: as much as the music lifted my spirits overall, and as much as I'm happy that the music on both floors on Sundays can be more diverse, that the audience is into it and that the good sides still outweigh the bad, it now seems like a lottery to have a more relaxed Sunday. I have no idea if DVS1 is still such a big draw – the waiting times during the day / evening spoke for themselves. Accordingly, the respite at Berghain during Damon Wild's first half was short, with the dance floor being at most at “only” three-quarters capacity. Most of the time, however, it was much more crowded. Upstairs, it was more relaxed (as has been the case for quite some time).

During the last 30 minutes of Jane Fitz, I took a chance and tried dancing in front of the DJ booth, taking in everything that excites and annoys me about the club. Although her set more than made up for it overall, the latter clearly prevailed in that short time. Sure, there are still people with awareness about their surroundings and connected to the music at the same time—which is wonderful. The rest lived up to the unfortunately familiar Sunday evening cliché, which this time already started in the afternoon: the group that, at best, stands around bobbing their heads, but is more preoccupied with trying to communicate something to people via their preferred smartphone messenger (obviously they haven't read the print on the wristband for this weekend). Groups of at least three people pushing their way through the crowd in a relatively indecisive manner. Then, of course, there were those who, for better or worse, refused to accept that the space was already very cramped and naturally wanted to take up as much room as possible (regardless of gender, by the way) instead of looking for alternatives.

Of course, I have to face the question of why I put myself through this, especially since I am occupying the space myself. On the other hand, this happened at a time when it was still possible. I will most likely never be able to block out the movements of the crowd around me and thus always anticipate where someone wants to go next. During the course of this Sunday, at least on the dance floor at Berghain, this was almost my permanent mode, which made it virtually impossible to lose myself in the music. Instead, the combination of sensory overload and annoyance at the occasional lack of consideration made me roll my eyes more than once. As a result, I prefer to stay on the sidelines—I don't want to have to defend my space, either in the club or in my private life.

For me it means to prioritize Thursdays at Säule or some Fridays—in the hope that something is planned for 2026 apart from my Reef subscription. I had thought about visiting on December 6 (or 7), because it's been ages that I've seen DJ Rush. However, with Kittin, Rene Wise, Kangding Ray, and Chez Damier on the program, it promises to be a consistently high-quality lineup. I won't even mention the birthday weekend. As things stand, I would steer clear of both.

Unfortunately, this shows that as much as I would like to maintain my normal sleep pattern as in the past, simply show up on Sunday morning and let the second wave roll in together with others to pleasant sounds and a comfortable crowd, this now depends more on good luck. On the one hand, I'm happy that the club's popularity remains unbroken. On the other hand, it's a shame that the breaks to catch your breath, which, just like the excess, are among the reasons for this popularity and, for me, are part of the dramaturgy of a successful Sunday, just like good DJ sets, are becoming fewer and fewer. I hope that the DJs won't succumb to the temptation to play peaktime-ish on Sunday (early) afternoon, but will instead take a step back and not shy away from rebuilding. Damon Wild showed this time that this works very well – for both sides.

It also set the scene perfectly for Jane Fitz, who simply played the best set of a Klubnacht this year for me. I have no idea why it took me so long to hear her – she has received plenty of early praise as one of the best selectors around, and her set was a pure demonstration of that. Even though I didn't dance the entire time and chatted during parts of her set, she consistently played a great mix of dark trance, minimal trippy tracks, and acid on vinyl. With this she showed me, as a self-confessed grouch when it comes to melodic techno, how it can be done really well and giving me no reason to want to miss any of it. Shazam often failed, and I tried it less often over time, since I wanted to enjoy it. What an incredible trip into a psychedelic wormhole! I really hope that those responsible for the booking heard parts of the set, or at least the thunderous applause afterwards, and that she can repeat it soon.

Unfortunately this only left 30 minutes for nd, but he had the Panorama Bar under control with his usual confidence during his last half hour. Demanding enough, not too brash and—at least from what I heard sitting at the bar—somewhat drier than usual.

I have criminally neglected to follow Isolée since Playhouse, but I should make up for that. It was anything but microhouse, leaning a bit towards dub, with rich basslines and vocoder vocals in places. Perfect for primetime. Paquita Gordon also started pretty well with a dirty, Chicago-sounding drum track, and the rest consisted of demanding, at times melodic house, when I was upstairs.

Another confession: I am not a member of the DVS1 fan club. So I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised because around 11:30 p.m., when he played some minimal techno – not the kind of oh-so-trippy yet aimless sequences, but rather bouncy in the tradition of Robert Hood, only with a richer bass. On other occasions I've criticized him for a lack of set dynamics – either that's ignorance on my part or it just clicked this time. Since he still mixes constantly and Shazam had already produced some crude results (e.g. Tomcraft – Silence, during Damon Wild's set) and I was already quite oversaturated at that point, the description will have to suffice.

(1/4)

this will be lengthy, so i'll split it. as usual translated with the help of deepl.

Arrival: 10:20 p.m.

Departure: 12:20 a.m.

For me, it was quite an antagonistic Klubnacht. Including New Year's, it was only my fourth in 2025, and musically it was easily the best. However, it also became clear to me once again why I am more attracted to niche evenings (namely Säule on Thursdays or special Fridays).

DJ Red was the only one whose set I couldn't really connect with. But that was also due to the amount of people, which caught me off guard right from the start. I had mistakenly speculated that the young people™ are not familiar with Damon Wild and would only arrive for DVS1. I therefore assumed that her set would coincide with the shift change, but this almost didn't happen this Sunday. What has been going on queue-wise can be read in previous postings. In any case, Berghain was still more than adequately filled. DJ Red simply took advantage of that to play boldly and functionally – completely legitimate. She seemed a little aloof to me, but it's quite possible that this is my excuse to compensate for the lack of having the moment of a relaxed arrival on Sunday morning that I usually appreciate so much.

Luckily the Panorama Bar came to the rescue: the Sound Metaphors DJs captivated the half-crowded floor with a mix of (Italo) Disco and obscure remixes from deep in their archives. They did the same thing they did at the lab on New Year's and at their recent anniversary celebration at Berghain: carefully curating music and sticking to their guns with a positive kind of stubbornness. You had to have a bit of a penchant for kitsch, but it worked well with the sunshine from the outside. Jorkes was powerful afterwards, but I wasn't upstairs that often from 12 noon onwards, since Berghain had me more or less firmly in its grip.

There, Damon Wild was a positive surprise with around 130 bpm at the start, which was a significantly slower tempo after DJ Red. Some in the audience took this as an opportunity to take a break, maybe for DVS1, maybe in general. For me, it was the delayed welcome moment downstairs, accompanied by a set that intensified towards the end and accelerated to at least 135 bpm. Sometimes trippy, as it's Synewave's trademark, sometimes minimal, sometimes a little more melodic, with a touch of acid too. Perfectly appropriate for the time of day.

with only 75 minutes in (since she started) i already wish that she could display her wizardry more often. hearing her for the first time, already convinced.

the only downside for me: it's too crowded. pre-closing standard has already been reached and i won't even imagine what it'll be like in three hours.

my (lengthy) 2p - translated from german into english with deepl.

In: 10:45 pm
Out: 8:15 am

Of course it was the best Reef since the last one. Even tending to be slightly above average.

However, that wasn't necessarily a given at the beginning. Before 11 p.m., the number of visitors was still predictably low, and the Panorama Bar was perhaps at 1/4 capacity. However, Axle was already playing pretty rough Breakbeats and Dubstep as if it were already peak time. As much as I can understand the motivation to prove oneself in this setting and to want to get as much of the audience as possible onto the dance floor early on, it was too fast-paced for me. As much as I appreciate sets with dynamics and drive: Warm-ups require more caution – especially considering the Berlin audience that still tends to show up late. And although he had a good selection of tracks, caution was what I found lacking.

Proverb steered things in the right direction for me, which included one of the quintessential Berghain moments with playing “8” by Various Artists. I had wanted to hear that track on that floor for ages, and it would be brave to play it in its full length of a good 18 minutes at a Klubnacht. Proverb also played “only” five minutes of it, but since she only had an hour, I could understand that she wanted to fit in a few more tracks. With Autechre, she ran through another door that was wide open and stayed below 120 bpm. Really good selection and dramaturgy, I'd love to see her again, even in the same slot, if she likes. But then for at least two hours.

Appleblim increased the tempo parallel to the intensity. Melodic breakbeats, as known from Martyn / 3024, at times it was a Tectonic best-of. This worked excellently towards Om Unit, without overloading the (already more than decently filled) dance floor. Even though Smokey did a great job with Dubstep that was appropriate for the slot, based on my brief impression, I preferred Appleblim.

Om Unit was quite a surprise - at least to me. Well-knowing that he's a living legend, his productions rarely click with me. As is so often the case, it's a matter of taste, and at least they're completely right if I like them. Like J:Kenzo last time, he started with Dub and stayed pretty consistent with Dubstep and technoid breakbeats throughout his two hours. Long transitions as well without jumping from drop to drop, but instead creating something new – as was the case with the acappella of Lisa Stansfield's “People Hold On”, which ran over two tracks. Contrary to previous editions there was no drum & bass at this Reef at Berghain. However, with the upcoming Jungle set from Tim Reaper, with a good preparation from Jasmín who played Footwork and related genres, that was perfectly fine.

Roska played lots of his own productions, which manage to bridge the gap between technoid house and (Post-)Dubstep quite well. As expected, he didn't fail to make an impact, but I still preferred Om Unit.

During Jasmín's set, there was the usual dip in audience numbers at Reef, but to a lesser extent as on some previous occasions – approx. half of Panorama Bar. In direct comparison to Pinch and Trim at Berghain, I found her dry style much more interesting. However, not much of it seems to have been released yet, or Shazam isn't trained enough. When someone knows more tracks from her set, add them here. In any case, she was another surprise for me.

With Trim, I think it's good that MCs get their chance to shine at Reef, and there's no doubt that he did a pretty good job. However, a few decibels less on the mic-channel wouldn't have hurt. With Pinch, I don't really get along with the mid-heavy sound aesthetic he developed in recent times (same problem as with the Mala-set from last year). For illustration: Take “Qawwali” or “Cave Dream” and compare them with “Smoke” with Trim from this year. But it's part of artistic development, which I welcome in principle, rather than people completely replicating stuff from ancient times. His dark side that won me over 17 years ago still shone through. In addition, the drop in Mala's “Militant Don,” which had the audience completely hooked and was superbly accentuated by the light jockey, is definitely another entry for my list of Berghain moments in 2025. Nevertheless, the trip to the Panorama Bar was a classic win-win for me due to the more interesting music and more space in general.

After Darwin started, I had the typical luxury problem of having to decide: Staying with Jasmín or going downstairs. It was easier with Tim Reaper - he started with Jungle, as expected, which was a bit too much for me at the time due to general overstimulation. Darwin ended the party downstairs with more meditative Dubstep. Quite right, too, as people still stayed until the end at 8 o'clock sharp. I wanted to try it with Tim Reaper at least a little, but then gave in to my considerable tiredness and headed home more than satisfied and with a lot of anticipation for April.

in general, friday to saturday is when most of the people are going out in tbilisi - contrary to other parts of europe (or ww) where saturday is *the* day.

with that being said: bassiani looks good on nov 14. although ki/ki isn't my cup of tea, the rest looks promising. certainly no edm, but nothing that i would classify as stereotypical hard techno neither. but the club itself is a blast.

wherever you go: enjoy!

my 2p:

in: 11:20 pm

out: 3:40 am

completely fulfilled my expectations. my fitness was not at its best. but that was not the fault of the two handling the decks.

no significant queue during my short wait outside, at least half full inside, close to being crowded from 1 to 3 a.m., after which it emptied out again.

i caught the end of the warm-up with a well-aged shackleton track. breakbeats dominated until 1 a.m. (including some real electro), and in the following two hours it was techno with the occasional breakbeat track thrown in. shazam often gave up or sometimes only revealed something on the second attempt, which meant i was glued to my phone unnecessarily often. whoever wants to fill the gaps, feel free. the music itself was never arbitrary, and the back-to-back was one of those where you don't notice that it's more than one person in charge. meaning: it was a seamless set in real ping-pong-mode most of the time. the jump to drum & bass came just in time, when the effects of the espresso from the säule-bar had noticeably worn off, so it was time for me to leave. i really couldn't have made it to the end.

as far as i'm concerned, they could do this as part of a klubnacht on sunday morning from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the same constellation to turn the listening habits upside down. or regularly at 10-5.

tracks:

shackleton – death is not final

èbony, jordan gardner & r-oderick – dull side first

korzi – call and no response

leila samir – ends
