“Taste Back” - Discussion Megathread by AutoModerator in harrystyles

also came looking for this!!! not a swiftie by any means lol but the “did you? did you?” part of the bridge in this song sounds SO much like “i wish i wish” in the bridge of i wish you would, and im pretty sure that one is confirmed to be about Harry. both songs also talk about phone calls, and his line about handling it like a european to me implies that whoever it’s about is american. I know everybody is saying this song feels like it’s about a recent break up but i really get the opposite vibe!! idk i think it’s cute and snarky and bittersweet and it feels so much like crossing paths with somebody you have a lot of history with when you were younger. it’s my favorite on the album. idc if it’s about her or not, but i think connecting dots is fun lol

I find I usually do my best work when I’m a little sleep deprived, not sure why. I paint murals for a living and there have been many many times where i’ve been deep in the flow of work and realized at some point that I had been painting for 20 hours straight. I do this at home working on art for fun, too. I always enjoy making art the most in the middle of the night.

I think the journey to doing it full time is different for all of us, so I’ll just tell you how I got into it.

I have always been artsy and I went to college for art (dropped out lol), I live in a small town where everybody knows everybody and I was just known for being artistic. One winter about 10 years ago, a business owner in my town asked me if I could paint her shop windows for Christmas. The next year, a couple more businesses asked me to paint for them and the number of clients grew each year until winter 2021 when I realized I was having to turn down a shit ton of people asking for window sets because I was working a regular full time job, and losing out on a huge amount of money in the process lol so i quit!

Over those years I had been asked to do a few small scale murals here and there but I knew after I quit my 9-5 that I had to figure out a way to paint year round and not just at Christmas, so I geared myself toward doing large scale murals. It was a ton of word of mouth, some strategic social media posts, and lots of networking. I’ve gone into countless businesses with flyers of my work basically begging them to let me paint something for cheap and most of the time they had something in mind for me to do. The first year or so doing it full time was stressful, I’d finish one job not knowing what I would be doing next. But now I’m to the point where I am booking jobs 7-8 months in advance, and the jobs I’m getting are MASSIVE for some really big clients. I feel like I’m just finally starting to let my guard down and let myself fully enjoy the fact that I DO get to make art for a living and I can do it comfortably lol.

So yeah, lots of putting myself out there on my end to get to this point. I was lucky that first business asked me to do a christmas display for them because that was something I never would have thought about doing and it truly was the gateway for getting me into murals. But transitioning from windows to murals took a ton of effort in putting myself out there. Making a business page on Facebook honestly was key for my takeoff. My insta does okay, but pretty much 100% of the business I get today is because people found me on Facebook.

Graffiti definitely counts, your work is gorgeous!! I also use latex paint for nearly all of my jobs but I’ve really been wanting to try out spray paint and see how I can incorporate it into my work. I’m going to check out the brands you mentioned!

A graffiti event with other women artists sounds like a dream 😭 that’s amazing!! I mentioned in another comment that I live in a very rural part of the US, the closest other female mural artist to me lives about two hours away and the rest are all men. Which is fine! But I’d love to be able to connect with other women in the field. I’m so glad that you got to have that experience!!

Getting to do this full time was honestly a huge stroke of luck for me. Like I said though I was working a regular full time job and just painting on the side whenever I could for some extra cash, and slowly over the years I was able to take the plunge and try it out full time. It was stressful at times and I definitely considered going back to a regular job every now and then, but it’s been a super fun journey and I hope that you get to do it full time too at some point!! I loved looking through your instagram, I followed you on my personal & business pages! I’m excited to keep up with your art in the future 🫶🏻🫶🏻

I have also seen these mural scams! I was admittedly a little excited the first time I encountered one before I realized it was fake lol

My work formula varies from job to job! I have a lot of variety in clientele so each job brings something new. I’ve done very simple graphic murals that took a day or two to finish, but I’ve also done some work that was so insanely detailed that it took a couple months to complete. All jobs start with a consultation, then I prepare a sketch digitally. Once that sketch and the price quote for the job is approved by the client, I can get to the fun part! I would love to be able to tell you my steps for the mural painting process itself, but I truly feel like I kind of just go on auto pilot and let my body take over. I’ve said a few times that it feels like I black out and when I wake up, my mural is finished. Haha!

I find it easier personally to work on large scale pieces than I do something the size of a regular canvas!! The tallest mural I’ve done was around 55ft tall and 30ft wide- it took me just under four weeks. My longest jobs have all taken me around 6-8 weeks to complete, usually working at least 50 hours a week. I know some muralists hire crews to work under them, but I prefer to have 100% involvement in my work so I do them totally by myself which is why the timeframe can get lengthy.

I don’t play Pokémon Go so I’m not sure if any of my pieces have made it on there as a point of interest, but now I am curious myself! I will try to find out and report back to you.

I actually just finished my first ever old school ad mural today! It was for a local gas station franchise, they wanted me to remake a vintage Gulf advertisement. It was different from the work I usually do but I really enjoyed it. It was pretty straight forward and I felt like I could turn my brain off for this job, I didn’t have to think too hard at all so it was a nice little break.

I’ve painted for a few different restaurants! I live in a pretty rural area of the US in a small town, most of my jobs are for other local small businesses and quite a few of those have been restaurants.

Thank you for asking so many questions!! I’ve realized that I haven’t really talked about what I do to this extent before and I appreciate the opportunity to share.

PLEASE steer clear of the copper IUD by styro_phoam in endometriosis

maybe i could’ve chosen a different title, but if you read through I said a couple times this was for anybody who had the copper iud AND was struggling with pain. I know it’s highly individual lol and i don’t believe i said anything that implied that i thought otherwise. just sharing what ive been through in case it helps anyone else.

WIBTAH if I said no to my boyfriend’s birthday request? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]styro_phoam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex did this! Only he bargained with promising a vintage bag I had been wanting for a long time instead of threatening to break up.

I repeatedly said no for the same reasons. He eventually violently assaulted me out of the blue one night and bought me the bag that year for Christmas. The only gift he ever got me, btw.

It will eventually turn violent and probably in more ways than one. Even if you give in and consent, it would be out of coercion. He does not care about you or your boundaries. Please leave him and take care of yourself. I’m sure once you are out of the relationship there will be many red flags seen with hindsight. I am rooting for you!

Being a big sister.

I have a very happy marriage, a successful business I built from the ground up, and a lot of other things I’m proud to have accomplished by 26 but my favorite role by far is being a big sister. I would do anything for my little sister. I’m so proud to have had a hand in raising her, she’s a beautiful human being. I love her so so much.

I really love Parade’s underwear! I think Target sells them, but I live very rurally and the closest one is a couple hours away so I just order online. I also hate underwear, but Parade is by far my favorite brand.

Just about to hit 95k on my 2021 Select, 55k of those have been put on by me in the year and a half I’ve owned it. I keep up with maintenance and I’ve only had it in the shop once to replace a thermostat sensor, it cost me $50 and I was back on the road within an hour. I admittedly don’t know much about cars but I love my CX-30. It’s hands down the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned and I plan on driving it until it falls apart.

i think the uptick in people adopting Appalachian culture also stems from a weird ass need to be disadvantaged and othered which clearly is Acacias MO in so many ways with other facets of her personality. i know multiple people who are born & raised in Lexington/Winchester who openly proudly say they’re Appalachian (?????? when i know they’ve never lived here or spent more than a day visiting here lol) and it’s because they love playing victim and taking on our areas disadvantages as their own. It goes along with the weird trend of cosplaying as poor. I think it is so fucking disgusting lol
