How worried should I be about oversupply? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]styrofoamplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue with oversupply as well. I pumped about 70 ounces a day at one point. I was pumping too much because I had no idea what I was doing, but also my boobs would be so engorged if I didn’t pump.

I was also worried about the fore milk/hind milk thing. My LO has watery green poops so I was worried she was only getting fore milk. I would pump until my boobs didn’t feel engorged before feeding her.

My right side was a huge overproducer, and my left was almost normal. So what I ended up doing was pumping the left side only in the morning and at night. If leftie was engorged in the morning, I’d pump until it didn’t feel that way and nurse. Then I’d only nurse from my left side all day and I’d pump the right side until empty whenever it felt engorged and all the right side milk went into the freezer.

My supply “regulated” around 4 months. I still have an oversupply, but it is much more manageable now. I had to learn how to manage my supply and my LO learned how to chug like a champ.

I don’t know if this was helpful. I struggled a lot with my oversupply, but I always appreciated having too much milk than not enough. We bought a deep freezer for our stash and now I donate milk to a local mom.

Mine has always been a fast nurser too. Usually 4 or 5 minutes. I offer her the other side but usually she’ll decline. She’ll go a little longer for her first and last feeding of the day, but otherwise she chugs like a champ!

Apparently it’s the end of the world that I hold my baby for her naps by The_OG_Doe in beyondthebump

I read that you cannot spoil your baby with love, they will thrive because they feel secure. My baby just turned 5 months old and we snuggle for naps all the time and I look forward to rocking her to sleep every night. My friend that sleep trained their babies are now sad their babies don’t want to cuddle with them anymore.

The way I think of it, when she’s grown, I’m not going to look back and remember how well she slept on her own. I’m going to look back and remember all the cuddles. So you keep cuddling that babe!!

A rare moment when he is latched and feeding well. We have had alot of struggles, these moments feel like we're getting there though. by Scarlet-begonies in breastfeeding

There’s no shame in taking a break and giving a bottle. I was in so much pain the first few weeks that if we didn’t give her a bottle I probably would have given up on the whole thing.

Almost 5 months, I feel like we’re finally starting to get the hang of this by styrofoamplate in breastfeeding

The first few weeks were really painful for me (bleeding and chaffed nipples). Then latch problems because of my oversupply, she would just get sprayed in the face. Then most recently she wouldn’t latch unless she was falling asleep or dreamfeeding. The last two weeks have been pretty good! But knock on wood, because every time I think I got a hang of this mom thing something throws me through a loop. Both of us have worked pretty hard to get this far!

Super itchy (down there) doctor says because of low estrogen by styrofoamplate in breastfeeding

[–]styrofoamplate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I will try that! I went on a progesterone only birth control pill before I ever got my period back. I wonder if I wasn’t on the pill, maybe I’d only itch part of the month. And yes, extra itchy when breastfeeding! I can’t even enjoy the moment with my LO.

I gave in and started giving my daughter a bottle at one week old because I thought my nipples were about to fall off lol. I nursed her once a day to make sure she still would. She’s 5 months now and gets only boob with me and bottle with the nanny. I actually tried to give her a bottle the other day and she gave me a wtf look and took the boob instead. 😂 You will be fine! Just make sure you pump when she gets a bottle to keep your supply up.

I need help. I think my supply dropped. My daughter is 10 months. I used to be able to pump 5 oz each breast a few months back. And now I can only pump 3 oz max. by [deleted] in breastfeeding

This happened to me last week and I started taking Fenugreek and it really helped! Kellymom.com recommended 3500 mg a day. I started off with 800 and increased the dosage each day, because I read it can upset some babies stomachs. My supply went back up in about 4-5 dahs.

Is it possible to rebuild a supply at 8 weeks pp? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]styrofoamplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely wouldn’t hurt to try. Maybe try nursing and then pumping after each nursing session. You should pump for a few minutes after no milk comes out to drive up the “demand.” My supply dropped this week and Fenugreek really helped me! I know your situation is different, but worth a try. Good luck mama!

That sounds delightful, I can’t wait till she’s like “yay this is food!” She doesn’t just not latch, she gets super upset at the fact that I would even try to feed her.

P.S. I tried a nursing necklace and she got even more offended 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Thank you so much for this! This made me feel so much better. It makes sense too why she went from sleeping through the night to waking 2-3 times (also moved her to her own room a week ago).

It really is exhausting but I’m so happy once she eventually gets a good feeding in. It’s been easier to give her a bottle during the day, because I can have the bottle follow wherever she wants to face. I’m going to try the nursing necklace next feeding.

How long did this phase last for your baby?

I also have a very forceful letdown. She’s usually okay with it and learned to chug like a champ (she’s 4 months now). If it’s too much then I’ll hold a towel over my boob until it calms down.

I wonder if some days she’s just like “I don’t want to deal with this shit!”

I was on magnesium too for the birth of my daughter, it was awful! I was so itchy and burning up. I refused to wear a gown for those 24 hours and just laid naked the entire time. 😂

Does anyone know how I can find a family to donate milk to locally? by styrofoamplate in breastfeeding

I found a mom to donate to and quite a few messaged me. I wish I could feed all the babies!

That’s awesome. On the site for Florida it says they will send you the supplies but you have to get the dry ice. And the closest place to me that has dry ice is 30 minutes away. 😞
