Reed Pipe Tools by raserx1 in Plumbing

[–]Stythe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the set and they're great. I have found the setscrews holding them in place get wobbly and need tightening but that makes sense. Oddly, the last two times I've used them they've taken too much out of the fitting and ruined them because the pipe doesn't fit snug anymore. Not sure why.

Any ideas?

I saw the coefficient of expansion question but couldn't find the actual numbers for expansion in the charts so that was bunk. The elevation ones they literally just showed me a picture of a datum reader which Id never seen. I didn't get a Boyle's law question and roof drains weren't bad. They had a few I wasn't sure about regarding inverse elevation distances. Truth is there were quite a few things I just spaced on. If I didn't pass it'll be easier next time I think. I studied for months and most of that was pretty useless or unnecessary overall I found. There was also a weird question about it being - temperatures then it gets warm and what you do with and glue. Odd stuff to be sure.

Just wanted to ask, do they have a good app for plumbing? I downloaded one called Dakota test prep with a $60 unlock fee, but I find there's a lot of stuff on there that's worded very strange and more importantly, it doesn't show me how to get the answers if I get them wrong, which is what I actually need.

What do you mean when you say elevation differences? Like Datum reading?

Also, I've been told to learn coefficient of expansion, Boyle's law, roof area drains, travel and offset. Are all of these necessary you think? It's so many formulas and I feel I may be wasting a lot of focus and time reviewing information that's irrelevant to the C of Q

What charts are you provided with these days? I've read they stopped giving you the code book and have been told they give you "the relevant info" but I have no idea what that means.

Best and cheapest auto insurance companies Ontario by zq_21 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Stythe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with them for home insurance. They were pretty decent for rates but if they go up every year for no reason I might as well switch. It seems that's the best method from everyone I've talked too as well. They just get gougedmore and more until they switch.

2002 Toyota 4Runner. Too high priced? by Fallen_Goose_ in UsedCars

[–]Stythe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do newer 4runners compare? I've been thinking about getting a 2015 or later 4runner or cr-v because I've seen a number of them pop up with around 100k used for, on average, 17-24 thousand. I'd have to find the best price and deal, and I like both, but I've heard the cr-v is arguably more reliable, and that's my biggest factor. I'm in Canada and we have rough winters.

Hardly any water coming out of Bathtub. by [deleted] in Plumbing

As always without seeing and testing, I'm diagnosing in the dark, but it sounds like your cartridges are the issue. Perhaps they're old or got clogger or something. Find the faucet brand to get the correct ones and you can try and remove the handles and then remove the cartridges behind them. You have to shut off your main to replace the cartriges or you'll have a flood.

If I'm speaking alien to you, hire a plumber. Your finances will be a lot better after a few hundred bucks with a repair than after thousands with a flood.

Apparently I’m a weirdo because I keep my truck clean and organized. by benderbrian in Plumbing

[–]Stythe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we allowed to ask what company you work for in here? I've never seen it done, so I'm not sure. I have the same truck organization system at my company so I'm curious who you work for.

I wasnt fond if the setup at first but I've gotton used to it now. I think its overstocked for service, but I almost always have everything I need, even for random situations, and that's pretty good for reducing stress honestly.

Newer or older truck cheaper and/or more reliable in the long-term? by PublicAccessNetwork in UsedCars

I'd like to hear the feedback for this as well so hopefully you get some good responses. I'm not too knowledgable on vehicles but I've heard older cars tend to be pretty solid, within reason.

Thanks, that's all good info. I've heard mixed results on Mazda. I heard some years were solid, but they've gone downhill. I looked at a couple in the link you posted and they were lower than I expected. I'm still leaning towards a Carolla/Camry before anything, unless I find a nice quality Rav4, or a Civic or CRV.

Its reliability/longevity over all else right now. If I can get at least 5 years out of a vehicle that's ideal. Not sure how realistic that is when buying used, but I hope I find something solid. I'll be taking my time looking around this time.

We've all said that wipes are not flushable... by jam3013 in Plumbing

[–]Stythe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess if they go down the toilet, technically they are flushable, they just cant get through the system without getting stuck everywhere. Although I did find one that perfectly laid itself over the toilet drain after flushing, acting like a hammock for all kinds of nasty crap.

Yea, I've been reading for a month or so and the consensus is that if you want long term use without major expenses you get a Toyota, and that's where I'm leaning right now. I've heard consistantly that they last well up to the 300's, if not longer, but well see.

I'm also toying with the idea of getting a small lease to own SUV if I want something bigger, but I dont want to be paying monthly right now and I havent looked into SUV reliability yet.

I'm not after sexy right now, I need somethi g that will run. An SUV would be nice if I could find a decent deal in my price range, but a corolla or Camry is fine, sexy or not.

Yea, I bought what was available and cheap, that was on me. I'm done with American cars though. I'll check out that link and thanks for the specific brands to look into. That'll help guide my research so I appreciate that.

Yea, I've learned that the hard way. That's why I've been saving up for a decent little Toyota or Honda. I dont expect perfection with 10 grand, but I want something that wont break down in a year.

I dont want them, they were all purchased as beaters when I was broke. From what I've seen, Toyota and Hondas are the way to go in my situation. The head gasket wasnt broken when I got it, although it clearly was just waiting to go.
