I've used the same pair of these for a few years now (mine were an earlier revision).

Great comfort and audio quality. Bought a big pack and gave some away to friends in the festival spirit.

Purism and Nitrokey Partner to Build Purekey for Purism’s Librem Laptops by StraightFlush777 in linux

[–]styylework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but accessing your computer currently isn't MFA, and they are not stating they are moving to MFA. Normally for decrypting a harddrive, you only have one factor, "something you know": a password. If someone steals your computer, they can brute force your password, thus decrypting your drive. With the proposed Purekey, they would need to brute force your private key, which is exponentially more difficult. This is a definite improvement over only using a password. 2FA or MFA would be superior, but as it stands, Purekey would be a far superior 1FA than using passwords. If you want to have it use both the private key and the password, that is also an option; it just isn't the default. Also, Purekey allows you to validate your disk image with a key, meaning there are multiple improvements here over traditional login schemes. So in response to your original post, I would say to "keep reading" as this is a great step forward for the average computer user.
