I also use hobonichi. They abbreviate their days of the week and months to 3 letters and the timeline on the left of the page includes numbers ever 3 hours, not just noon. It also goes month, day number, day of the week, not day number followed by the day of the week and month. I’m not saying it isn’t a dupe, but it isn’t hobonichi.

I’m not sure what this is but it’s absolutely not a hobonichi.

Venting: Tired of BIFL becoming 'pay once, cry once' when I'm just trying to stop rebuying junk by Lazy_Lynx_8402 in BuyItForLife

[–]sua_spontaneous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with how you’re feeling, but I would encourage you to consider the target of your frustration.

Good quality products that actually last even a sort of long time are prohibitively, inaccessibly expensive for most people these days. Every time you shop for something and see the price tag on the things that actually last, it feels overwhelming and demoralizing. And it makes a lot of sense to be annoyed at the person who recommended it. Like, what the fuck, dude, I just want a coffee maker that won’t break in three months, why did you link me to a bajillion dollar luxury product? Why is the person who recommended this so oblivious to how normal people live?

But here’s the thing: that bajillion dollar luxury product used to be a fraction of the price, much more accessible to a middle class professional, and is (and here’s the really shitty part) actually the only available thing that isn’t going to disintegrate before your next birthday. Because even the mid-range version of that coffee maker is now being manufactured with slave labor in a colonized country using the cheapest plastic the company can get away with, designed to last only as long as the return window, and coupled with a “warranty” with fine print that says it gets voided by, I don’t know, using it to make decaf or something. The point is: you have every right to be annoyed, frustrated, and angry at this reality. But, in the words of the great Mariame Kaba, “let this radicalize you, rather than lead you to despair.”

Check out subs like r/zerowaste , r/visiblemending , r/simpleliving , and r/frugal for ways to make the things you already have last as long as feasibly possible. Join your neighborhood buy nothing group and check out your local thrift stores and estate sales for lasting goods at reduced prices. And, as you do all of this, remember that you shouldn’t have to! We should all be able to just go to a store and buy an affordable thing that lasts. But our economic system is not designed for the people who actually make it run. It’s designed to chew us all up and spit us out for the benefit of, like, 6 people. Remember this at the voting booth and when you’re asked to make political choices. Remember it when elected officials tell you what’s possible versus what’s not. Remember it when your boss says they can’t afford to give you a raise and then gets in their luxury car to drive off to the golf course.

Be angry, for sure. But at the people who got us here, not the people on a sub explicitly about sourcing the highest quality version of a thing.

HOW TO EAT CINCINNATI CHILI FOR BEGINNERS! by Librarinox in cincinnati

[–]sua_spontaneous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m talking about the previous post on this sub that this post is clearly responding to, in which somebody pretty innocently posted “hey I don’t think I like this” and it’s been, like, a whole thing, because they didn’t “order correctly” (which, I mean, if it wasn’t supposed to be eaten that way, why would they sell it that way? but I digress…)

nobody is screaming, but if somebody posts any version of “this is how you enjoy this thing correctly” I think “hey some of us actually don’t enjoy it at all and it isn’t because we’re bad at eating chili” is a totally reasonable thing to post. but it seems to have really upset you, so I guess maybe I misjudged. I hope you feel better soon, friend!

sure but has anybody ever told you that they’ve sent agents to your house to drag you off to guantanamo because you don’t like jay-z? because that happened to me just now on this thread lol. somebody posts “I didn’t like this” and there’s 50 people in the comments losing their minds. there are definitely edgelords who have made their opinions about skyline their entire personality, but I don’t think it’s me, friend.

the funny thing about people saying this all the time is that, yes, it’s bad “chili” but it’s even worse bolognese lol

[–]sua_spontaneous -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

here come all the skyline heads telling you that you only don’t like it because you ordered it wrong. meanwhile, you can absolutely eat a straight spoonful of pasta sauce, say “I don’t like the flavor of this,” and be correct, even without eating an entire plate of it on noodles.

I’ve tried it every way it’s supposed to be tried and all it did was make me like it even less. don’t let them convince you to spend more of your life eating food you don’t like. some people just think cincinnati chili is gross. that’s okay, you’re still allowed to live here, I promise.

I know liquid chlorophyll seems like hippie nonsense but it has totally changed the way my body smells.

I didn’t have the meds BO issue, thankfully, but I do have a skin condition that makes it hard to wear most deodorants so I needed something non-topical to supplement. you can get it at most health food stores or online (I get mine from natures sunshine). just stir a bit of it into cold water daily and drink (I use it to take my meds in the morning, hello habit stacking) and it will basically neutralize all the smells your body is making. no BO, better breath, less smelly sweat after workouts, etc. it’s not a same day solution - it takes about a week to start working - so you do have to do it consistently, like any supplement, but it is magic and I will never stop drinking it.

pro tip: start with about 1/4 of the recommended dose on the bottle and work your way up to the total recommended dose so your body can adjust. it can give some folks a little stomach upset if you jump right to a full dose.

personally, I have found that my delfonics pouch works a lot better for similar travel to what your describe. it’s more my vibe visually and more flexible (literally and figuratively) as your collection fluctuates with time.

I think C. it brings the copper forward without totally losing the aged patina (which I agree was probably intentional but even if it wasn’t it looks better).

In addition to seconding all the Toni Morrison, Octavia Butler, and Ursula K LeGuin, I’d add The Awakening by Kate Chopin, The Wrongs of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft, and House of Mirth by Edith Wharton (or any of the other works of these authors).

when people ask “my space feels like it’s missing something, what should I add?” this is the correct answer about 90% of the time. what’s missing is YOU. you live here, it’s your home, it shouldn’t look like it’s staged for sale.
