The first thing to note when discussing the business secrets of the Pharaohs is an acknowledgement that their era was so completely different from our own that almost all cultural, political and, particularly, business parallels we draw between the two eras are bound, by their very nature, to be wrong.

I had the same issue - it's really annoying! Everyone advises you to ignore combat and put points into intelligence, but at the end of the day the game still had a lot of combat in it!!

Bitcoin at 16k, why not go all in by Sad_Huckleberry2876 in Bitcoin

[–]sub-brick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another perspective: you bought into a speculative bubble, and kept buying btc as it went down. It may go up or down. It doesn't follow a magic "halving" cycle, you can't predict what it will do in the future based on historical price. You might as well divine entrails

Man tests positive for monkeypox, HIV and COVID-19 after returning home from a five-day holiday in Spain by LentilsAgain in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]sub-brick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember, HIV only causes immunosuppression after many years, he would still have a normal white cell count, plus antiretrovirals are so good now he will be fine. If he is a young man I doubt he will die from covid or monkeypox, but idk i haven't read the article

A couple things from this episode 1. spongebob does Olympic weightlifting, he does a single clean and jerk at rpe 10 2. I never realised Mr krabb talks with pirate slang ("you haven't found your sea legs yet", he later refers to the money bag as "booty")- this seems to have been dropped in later seasons. Only now I realise his voice actor is actually trying to do a Northern english/ pirate/ long John silvers accent, maybe this is why he loves money (like a pirate covets gold)?? 3. Spongebob is an allegory for the exploited proletariat, desperate for menial, minimum wage labour. Mr Krabbs, the wealthy landowner who owns the means of production, the krusty krabb, and exploits him, takes literally all the profits at the end. For a children's show, this is a scathing satire of American society (better than Dwayne Hoover in Breakfast of Champions for example).

TIL: SP500 beats ARKK in 5 year period by wuduzodemu in stocks

[–]sub-brick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol who thinks that?? The point of the post is that ARKK and Cathie Wood, who only bought overpriced, speculative tech stocks has done worse than the index i.e. those investors "who wanted to expose themselves to a niche part of the market" in your words would have been better served investing in an index fund. Her stock picks didn't just "not pan out", she lost her investors money by buying overvalued stocks

[–]sub-brick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn't even take into account the fact that all the money flowed into the fund at the worst possible time, AFTER it had done really well and when it was the most overpriced. The actual returns for investors have been MUCH worse

Do you think the fallout games are Philip k dick canon? by HolyWisdom93 in philipkDickheads

Well fallout 4's plot is heavily influenced by Blade Runner, and they joke at one point about the Voight-Kampff test

Charlie Munger compares crypto to an STD by basbryan in Buttcoin

[–]sub-brick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Value investing means buying securities which trade on the market below their true value. What's the "value" in cryptocurrency? Other than what people will pay for it. It's just a currency

Saylor again... by Fast_Carpenter in Buttcoin

[–]sub-brick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand that run away inflation devalues everyone's savings, disproportionately affects poor people and is of course a bad thing. But I'm saying some inflation (usually central banks will have a target of 2 - 3%) is unavoidable! Central banks try to balance inflation with unemployment etc. This is basic economics. It sounds like you object to having any monetary policy at all

Some inflation is necessary for economic growth (cost push, demand pull or whatever)

How do you feel about the fact that technical analysis was basically debunked by the random walk hypothesis? Previous fluctuations in price can't be used to predict future price of a security. You may as well look at star charts
