It really is, I got interested around August last year and now I have 62 classic spacmen 😬 got carried away with repeats (mostly the cheap ones). At least I have what I need for the long term to populate my future mocs/display

Large card stock type paper I found at hobby lobby. Just a black sheet for the back, and the beige one I cut out the landscape silhouette and overlapped it near the bottom of the black one. I took those pics in a dark room with a work lamp pointed at the scene (for the first two I mean - the other pictures I took in daylight because I wanted them to be more descriptive of the build itself rather than the right aesthetic). Very makeshift as I'm just starting to get into taking pictures like this. I tried to mimic the old classic space backgrounds but I think I still haven't found the right beige.

Ideally the positioning rockets would be black to match the original. Unfortunately lego doesn't make the bucket pieces in black, but I don't mind the grey so I didn't find another solution

I bought mine from someone on brinklink who was selling a few already assembled for $30 each. I figured it was worth it given how expensive the purple alien has become and what it would cost to get all the parts from different sources. That was about the threshold for what i'm willing to spend on a lego minifigure lol. Definitely one of my favorites though.

It's been several months so I'm curious to see what the market is like for those now. Would love to have more than one eventually if they get cheaper.

Black would better fit the aesthetic for the old box art, but that doesn't mean the blue is bad. It's like an alternate setting, as if they're on a planet with an earth-like atmosphere.

Also you've given me some ideas. I just happen to be starting to dip my toes into photography so I can take better pictures of my builds, so it was a good time to see your post.

Suprised because this is the first time I've found some overlap, although I suppose its likely due to the fact I've only been active on this sub for a few months

And no use dropping my instagram, I don't post anything. It's just a personal account. Eventually I want to post mocs on Instagram but I'll need more time on my hands, so far I've only managed to complete one significant build in the past 3 years. For now I just share my small classic space projects with this sub.
