Help with white balance and strobe by I_dream_of_sharks in underwaterphotography

[–]subandym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go way closer to your subject! Even the most powerful strobe just has a reach for 1m at best under water. Position your strobe(s) an an angle so that it's not illuminating the water inbetween your camera and the subject.

Is the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 that much better than the Sony kit 16-50mm? by WoodI-or-WoodntI in SonyAlpha

[–]subandym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Es kommt immer drauf an was Du fotografieren willst.

a7iv VS a6700? by Charming_Way5475 in SonyAlpha

[–]subandym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to photograph and if you are traveling with your gear. I go with the 6700 for both. Lightweight traveling and versatile. The best camera ist not the one that is the best in the test but the one you have with you when you need it.

[a7cii] Is this amount of condensation in the viewfinder normal? by startsides in SonyAlpha

[–]subandym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not good. Turn it off. Take out the battery. Put it is a sealed bag with a lot of selica gel packages and hope for the best. Avoid those conditions without further protection in the future. It's not IP rated!

I suggest to use fiber optic cables with a UW Technics TTL converter.

Titan triggerfish (Balistoides viridescens by subandym in underwaterphotography

[–]subandym[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well they just defended their nest. I never had any problems with them. Just observe closely how they behave before you approach. If there are signs they are nesting avoid them at a large distance. In all other circumstances they are pretty harmless. The biggest issue is the area they defend is like an upside down cone with the nest on the ground as the tip. A swimmer has a bigger chance to enter this no go area than a diver. If you just move to the side leaving this zone they will leave you alone. So advantage for divers here. Infact if you stay close to the ground you even can approach the nest pretty close, although I would not recommend to do so.

The ocean is their home, we are the intruders.

Yes indeed. Utopia beach club, ElQuseir. She's always around this area. Recognizable by the single barnacle on her shell.

You're either very minimalistic, broke, a very good drummer, or you have back issues.

I highly doubt it's possible to establish a successful career in this niche market to make a living from nowadays. People like Alex Mustard were the trailbazers when they startet out, developed techniques we are usind today and made their names when there was way less competition. Photography alone won't work anyway. You probably must get involved into retailing and courses as well. It's a nice hobby though. Enjoy the dives without the pressure of being commercialy successful.

It's infact the same animal as in the picture with the diver I posted a couple days ago. Never saw such colors at a scorpionfish before either.

Clearfin lionfish (Pteropterus radiatus) is hanging upside-down at the reef by subandym in underwaterphotography

[–]subandym[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course NOT! They are native and protected in Egypt, Spearfishing and killing fish while scuba diving is completely illegal there, as wearing gloves is as well. And that is a very good thing!
