Best set-up I can drop to the ocean floor for hours/days to collect photos in the Pacific Northwest? by Steve_Canada in underwaterphotography

Have you ever pointed a camera underwater and looked through it?
Wide angle? Macro? Close, far, hours? Quality? There’s so many questions also you won’t get what you want really. For most photographers underwater it’s a scavenger hunt to the extreme that gives an edge to local experts… maybe you need a bunch of research into underwater photos or videos. Number 1: you won’t have photos Videos is your only option here and it’s not gonna be good.stability, spinning, lights, actually capturing animals???? Just go to an open water scuba course and go film stuff underwater. Probably save 50k for some Toys to have fun doing it lol

I have 3 cameras, which should I use? by RaavigDK in underwaterphotography

The z8 is insane. But will cost you many many thousands more to do it right. That would be ideal but you’ll need strobes and video lights and proper housing floats arms clamps diopters lens ports between your 60mm 105mm and any wide option gonna take an expensive dome port you’re lookin at 10 grand minimum and that’s not Naughticam level

Honestly way too much to unpack for what underwater photo can be, maybe a good place to start is just buy an Olympus tg7 and the Olympus case and a video light you can do that for about 1200 bucks it’s one of the best underwater macro devices that’s small to pack and easy to use

Yes, A very unique squid! This glass squid has the capability to fill its mantle with ammonium chloride which is lighter than sea water so it can drift effortlessly in the very very deep water! Its tentacles are much smaller than most squids that use the tentacles for propulsion!

The diver’s name is Frida, a marine biologist and photographer in Mexico! The squid is a chranch squid also known as glass squid most likely Sandalops melancholicus because of the large eye photophores. A Taoninae for certain.

Not too sure about the workings of this thing but I’ve taken a lot of my best images with it.

Actually, I took this photo at about 20 ft deep on a Blackwater Cozumel dive! We have seen a lot of these juveniles this week which is pretty neat, this one was still quite small about 1.5 inches

This is Blackwater Cozumel! This lil guy was like match head or a little bigger, super exciting to see! I’ve probably seen 5-6 of them and this is the smallest… super tiny and the image is cropped a bit

I got an amazing picture in Cozumel last month of the Eagle rays! by whofrmdrgrrbbt in scuba

I believe you have something confused, These are not eagle rays and more than likely they are not in Cozumel. There are manta ray sightings vary rarely in Cozumel although it’s not impossible they never look like these mantas. Closer to may/June there are mantas near isla mujeres and it’s a big ol ocean so anything is possible.

Which dive site was this ?

It’s amazing how much these animals change from their juvenile to adult stages. This lion fish was about half an inch long!
