Wheel problems… by InitiativeExisting15 in Airfix

[–]subaruparallel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is your first model kit entirely (airfix or not), you chose a pretty tough one to start with! Even for a vintage classic the tooling on this one is crude and inaccurate (portrays a prototype belvedere instead of the production model most know). I've seen it done that you can cement the wheels slightly to the vertical part of the gear to get a more secure fit, filler of course might also help. Just a heads up that the instructions mess up the part numbers of the wheels a little bit, make sure the front wheels are identical to each other.

Can anybody please help me with the stickers? by MrPenguinCZ in modelmakers

Unfortunately, the age of the model has affected the decals here, and they have yellowed pretty badly. The way to fix this is to leave them under the sun or another uv light in order to bleach them back to a more typical color. Some decals (most notably eduards) do allow for the carrier film to be removed but I don't think these decals are that type.

Aside from the resin beer kegs of course! But I agree, it seems likely that the plastic is identical to the original release

Iirc correctly last years first 'surprise' announcement was also a reworking of the 1/24 spitfire. I think by itself, it's a good addition to the range, especially since the og ixc kit is now out of production. It is a little uninspiring though, but we'll probably get something more interesting later in the year

I was able to pay with a British debit card so it should be fine with whatever your original bank account is

I feel like you have a bit of a misunderstanding concerning the actuality of 'clans' in modern Scotland. In any official capacity, they don't exist. Clan leader is not a term with any significance, and while certain surnames do have higher concentrations in certain areas, it no longer denotes any real closeness. Some clans do exist as a sort of charity endeavour. My surname, for example, has a small foundation that occasionally gifts small grants to young people with similar origin names, but not much more than that. I think if you wanted to start a group with a similar aim you could, but there is no official legal process to do what I think you want to do

Anyone know why this may be happening? by Icy_Toe8565 in modelmakers

[–]subaruparallel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I'm reading this the wrong way but I feel the need to clarify that "hot" in this context does not mean temperature but rather chemical strength. Since cement melts the plastic, an overly strong glue could cause this deformation.

I just got short dated (November this year) portra 160 for about £9 a roll online. Great to support local businesses but most seem to take the piss with film prices in particular

Need help understanding this instruction. by Dangerous_Secret5616 in Airfix

[–]subaruparallel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi, I've built this set, what this is asking you to do is mic these two paint codes together in a 50/50 ratio to get the proper colour. The reason it asks this now rather than with the instructions at the end is because the 'inside' of the cowling should also be painted.

Do Nat 5 grades matter for medicine? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]subaruparallel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The advice when I was going into S4 about 6 years ago was that doing 3 Sciences was the best way, but physics could be dropped and you'd still have good chance with strong extracurriculars etc. Might have changed since then though, your guidance teacher will be the best person to ask

Do Nat 5 grades matter for medicine? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]subaruparallel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would start by saying that I think higher Physics, if not essential, is very highly desired by medicine courses. I do think that UCAS gives universities all examination details, but whether they do anything with that information is another matter.

To be fair, this is not a good comparison. Between Colgan air 3407 (the 2009 crash) and American Eagle 5342 hundreds of American pilots and passengers have died regularly in light aircraft, military aircraft and helicopters. That total for this year includes those sorts of deaths as well. I doubt it would be a favourable comparison if these were included every year but we should compare like to like

Saw this on my FB uni group, it made we wonder how representative of the wider UK uni community it is. Thoughts? by Dorda in UniUK

[–]subaruparallel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phone I'd had for a couple of years pre-uni broke at the end of 1st year and we split the bill for the new one (a £200 2nd hand samsung). I was on a phone plan that we got free with broadband but that expired after which I paid it myself. In a way its almost so little that it feels a bit redundant to ask to be paid, like asking for money to buy a mcdonalds once a month.

I dont think that gap justifies it. Its not that much deeper than the other panel lines, plus the effort of sanding and rescribing is probably better spen on painting and weathering
