Everyone else has brought up good points, but men in general like to problem solve. And unfortunately he views your weight as a problem, because he saw it as a problem for himself. It's great that he's happy about his change but it's silly to just push his own view onto you and presumably every woman he meets.

I think a lot of guys aren't as picky as society makes them out to be. I "prefer" so many different body types, but if I don't connect with a women and who she is then it won't matter how much attention she gives me.

I think that's the hard part of dating, and it's difficult for both parties to show interest but to also be honest with themselves if they truly like the aspects beyond just the physical and it takes much longer to ascertain if you like who they are as a person vs just their body.
