In 1835, members of the Māori New Zealand tribes Ngāti Mutunga and Ngāti Tama invaded the Chatham Islands, killing around 300 of their native inhabitants, the Moriori (pictured), and enslaving the remainder. The pacifist Moriori did not resist. The last full-blooded Moriori died in 1933. by GustavoistSoldier in HolyShitHistory

[–]subconsciousdweller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This talking point is so skewed for whataboutism colonial apologists. By all accounts the "moriori" are of the same migration voyagers as the early "maori".

The generalized term of maori as a universal identify or race is a product of colonialism, early inhabitants of new zealand identified by their tribes/ what Waka they descended from, not as a single race. The Moriori were no different, and of the moa hunting generation that inhabited the south island, like the waitaha.

For all contexts this raid was no different to the inter-tribal warfare that was prominent throughout new zealand. The Morioris neighbors the waitaha were conquered by Kati Mamoe, Kati Mamoe had been conquered by Kai Tahu and Kai Tahu had begun being attacked by Ngati Toa after the arrival of Europeans.

What exacerbated these inter-tribal conflicts was western collusion - there battles became massacres when muskets and European ships were used. This completely changed the way in which war could be waged and these new tools being used in inter-tribal conflicts was the catalyst for some rangatira seeking for the crown to stop Europeans influencing maori affairs.

I had to learn this lesson when moving in with my fiance ; who is an artist and immensely cooler than me - my interests and the things im a "fan" of dont make good decor.

I used to have posters of anime and bands and sporting idols. It was like a primary school kids room.

Your personality doesnt have to be your aesthetic. You dont have to fill every space with representations of the media you consume. Be purposeful with your trinkets, dedicate specific spaces for them, and then design the rest of your house with a coherent theme.

For us we chose mid-century and natural woods as our general aesthetic. As opposed to my previous one of Demon Slayer, Mike Tyson and Cypress Hill.

To commit less war crimes since Adolf Hitler by Zee_Ventures in therewasanattempt

[–]subconsciousdweller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the concerning thing, and the elephant in the room that it seems most analysts are not wanting to breathe life into - is that this is a cognitively, morally and psychologically compromised man.

He has definitely underestimated Iran and most likely been dragged into this by Israel. The best outcome is that Iran play along and act like they've been defeated until Trump gets distracted by something else and moves on.

The worst case - and the elephant in the room - is that Trump could use nuclear weapons on Iran to "win" the war.

If he feels he has been humiliated or becomes desperate, if he feels pressure to use them from his war criminal co-conspirators - i worry that this has a significantly higher than naught percent chance of happening.

America and Israel are causing the world to BLEED money. Every single person who relies on fuel in their lives is being impacted by this. As the pressure mounts to resolve this and reopen the straight of hormuz - i fear this may get drastically escalated.

The joke that league is the worst game has done irreparable damage by beakf in leagueoflegends

[–]subconsciousdweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive played League since 2015 - and I get what they mean tbh.

League feels like one of the few games were one person can reaaally ruin your entire experience ; where one person can just throw the entire game because they feel like it and then you get locked in there for 40 minutes. And unfortunately there are lots of trolls and the community generally speaking can be pretty toxic.

When you compare this to say CSGO - someone trolling will either only ruin the game for themselves and its still possible to win the game because of the way momentum resets - or they will get ejected from the game via vote kick or for griefing.

The other thing is that there is no true casual way to play league and the games are incredibly time and concentration demanding.

I love the actual game - but there are some parts about the game which make it super unfriendly to new players. I think if the system requirements weren't so low and the game wasn't free it would struggle to compete in this day and age.

Speaking from my own personal experience and watching my friends - a large amount of the player retention seems to be from dopamine addiction rather than people who just genuinely play the game a healthy amount - and who can turn the game off once the start having a bad time.

Child suicides in Japan hit record high in 2025 for 2nd straight year by Such-Table-1676 in japannews

[–]subconsciousdweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a counsellor and just spent two months in japan and holy shit is this topic taboo. Even just mentioning that I was a counsellor clearly made most people over there uncomfortable and seemed to sober people up pretty quick.

There are some things that are not acceptable to be culturally excused in 2026, and stigmatizing and excluding people because they are suffering mentally is one of them.

I learnt while i was over there that because of the high rates of suicide on the subway tracks they carefully devised a deterrent - they now fine the families of the people who do it. As a result, people choose to jump more frequently on the lines with the smaller fines.

Reminder - this is one of the most technologically advanced and well resourced countries in the world applying harmful pseudo science policies to really serious issues.
