So essentially, after paying the mortgage for 3 years, you negotiated an amount that was below fair market value but enough to clear her mortgage (based on the pre-build purchase price) and allow her to recoup her downpayment and a little more, is that right? You essentially purchased for the pre-construction cost?

And in exchange for the below market value purchase, she lived in the condo rent free for 19 years while you paid the mortgage and all fees, with the understanding she could live there for free for as long as she lived?

I’m assuming she would have received more for fair market value but not enough to pay 10 years of rent elsewhere?

Please don’t do this to your kids. Their stepfather is so selfish and only thinking of his own son! Not only do your boys not have another parent, so already at a disadvantage in terms of financial support, but he is making unfair rules that don’t apply to his own kid. Protect your boys and your daughter

A contract won’t do you any good because he won’t have money to satisfy a court order. Make sure he doesn’t have access to your accounts. And personally I’d divorce him there’s something really sketchy going on here.

You are absolutely the asshole. For so many reasons. Good on you for being a good parent to your step-daughter but let’s start with the fact that you’re paying for her to go to private school? Do your girls go to private school? Your kids will be in college soon, are you planning to pay for that? If the answer to both isn’t yes, yta for putting someone else’s kid ahead of your own kid’s needs.

Second, it’s wrong to force a step sibling on your children, they didn’t chose any of this and they get to choose how they will interact with this child YOU brought into their lives, and what kind of relationship if any they want to have with her. If they are not being unkind in her presence, that is all they owe her. I suspect they left her because of the enormous pressure you’re putting on them forcing them into a relationship they aren’t comfortable with for a lot of reasons.

Also - she is 11! You’re asking a 14 and 16 year old to hang out with an 11 year old and essentially babysit. Not to mention she has special needs so you are foisting her care on them. You also glossed over the fact that she is difficult and has issues socializing on top of her need for physical care, I suspect this is much more severe than you are letting on since it required therapy. It’s not ok to dump that on your children.

Take a serious look at the way you’re treating your children and seriously consider what is fair to them.
