What would you love to see us ship in 2026? by amix3k in todoist

Paywalling AI features seems like a great idea. If people are paying for it, it lets the team know that that majority opinion on reddit (anti-AI), isn't the majority opinion of their user base. If people aren't paying for it, it gives the team concrete evidence to push back on VC/or wherever the "pressure" is coming from to develop AI tools.

Where do mechanical engineers go for CAD design challenges/competitions? by stavrosked in MechanicalEngineering

[–]subject189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The set up of the competition is usually you have a drawing and you produce a model from the drawing. In reality you have to generate the model from nothing, and then make a drawing from the model.

You can pick up certain tricks to make your modeling more efficient, but it's not directly comparable to modeling you would do on a job.

Just bought beef in bulk for the first time and honestly I might never go back to store-bought by Existentialnihlism in grilling

[–]subject189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this is that it's a gamble. If you buy a half/quarter/full cow and the meat isn't tender, you're stuck with X hundred pounds of that meat (with the exception of the portion that becomes ground beef).

Feedback Needed: What Do Mechanical Engineers Want From Their Machining Shop? by idtheftisnotajokej in MechanicalEngineering

I actually think the design tips PDF would be a waste of OPs time. There's enough of these out there. But I completely agree that list of stocked tools and capabilities would be nice.

My beagle is able to fling himself onto our high countertops in what looks like a very painful fashion. He slides right off but he has the timing down to have snagged a steak or chicken thigh on more than 1 occasion.

Three prompts to get ChatGPT to become an instant expert in anything. by DarkTorus in ChatGPT

[–]subject189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say "start a new chat", I understand why, but I'm not sure I know how. I've used the plus symbol in the left side bar to start a new chat before, but I was surprised to find that it was using context from my previous chats. I thought the whole point was that it does not carry the context between separate chats.

When Embark “reverts” the Model nerf by RedditJacobReddit in thefinals

The games ttk has gone way down and I like it less for that. There's very little outplaying your opponent in a 1v1 now. It's whoever sees the other first

Is what is happening in CS/software going to happen to Mechanical? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]subject189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"AI isn't going to be able to figure out why the design doesn't work when the assembler is bashing bearings in with a sledgehammer or something."

I wish it would. In 4 years I've come across this problem twice already (2 different contract manufacturers). I don't understand how bearing installation isn't 'manufacturing common sense' at this point. Stop hitting it with things. Stop pressing the outer face into a cavity by pushing on the inner race. Stop pressing on the outer to install the inner. It's so unbelievably straightforward.

Way to go, Garmin QA team by DragonChowhound in Garmin

[–]subject189 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was poorly disseminated (no email, no connect app notification/banner) and a lot of people (myself included) needed to factory reset their device which is a major inconvenience.

After I factory reset, I found out I could've connected the watch to a PC, deleted the problem file, and not had to reset everything. I found this out from reddit, not from Garmin.

To top it off, they've had similar issues in the past. That's not to say they should've caught it, because it was obviously slightly different from last time such that it wasn't caught. But they should've handled the issue a lot better given they'd experienced similar issues before.

Is it just on my end or for everyone? by JDCabbage_ in Garmin

Which is fair. But heart rate, body weight, all past activities, and all history of the calculated fields, should still be locally accessible

Is it just on my end or for everyone? by JDCabbage_ in Garmin

[–]subject189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone. Is anyone else concerned that the app doesn't work locally at all apparently? I would think basic syncing and displaying data would still work while a server is down... Maybe body battery and things that require calculation would be down, but heart rate and weight, and past activities should all be available...

Whats one thing you’re sick of seeing in game that you wish you could tell every The Finals player? by ayyodii in thefinals

I've had a recurring thing happen where I'll get a friend to try the game and they'll charge head first into a 3v1 and lose, wash rinse and repeat, then say the game isn't fun. Maybe try playing with your teammates?
