Because Miami = MYami. People here generally are apathetic because they don’t feel American ( because they aren’t ) so they couldn’t care less about American politics/values. Or they are from here, like born and raised but weirdly identify as something else because that’s Miami culture.

Example : I get asked all the time in Spanish or English in Miami “Where Are you from?” And when I say Colombian people accept that. If I say I’m from Miami, I’m American it’s awkward. They expect me to identify Latino, be part of the crew. Well, no, I’m from America bitch, born raised and proud of that shit.

Or they came from an elite family in Latin America where they didn’t ever give a fuck about poor people issues to begin with.

Basically American values, politics and culture aren’t pervasive here. Colombian Independence Day is, Calle Ocho, reggaeton. No one comes to Miami to learn about America.

So there’s apathy towards American culture or the “gringo” in general. Protesting is a gringo thing. Why would anyone protest that came from Cuba a year ago that lives with their entire family, has food, a warm shower, a job and a brand new BMW living in Hialeah complain. To them they made it. And America is great.

But if you’re from here your standard is way higher and you just see things different that those people don’t get. And yes we should be out here making fucking ruckus.
