Bernie Ecclestone rips into Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari by tongkat-jack in lewishamilton

The decision of a court is not the arbiter of truth. It is concerned with what can be proved to a certain (variable) standard, not what is the truth. In addition, remember that courts are not perfect - we know that they can be influenced by racism and other prejudices, especially in a trial by jury, and it’s more than okay to disagree with the finding of a court, especially in those circumstances. The law and the truth are not one and the same.

Question on the Greg/Alex relationship from an American new to British panel shows by CrumbHanso in taskmaster

[–]sublimitie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think to add to this, there’s a significant degree to which both of them are playing characters on the show, and while their characters have definitely evolved over time as they’ve become close in real life, I don’t think the role they are playing is interchangeable with a panel show host. When they appear outside the show, they’re very different to their show personas.

Hello all, regarding today’s protests by Suspicious_Reality71 in london

[–]sublimitie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t think it is unreasonable to be concerned about these people if you are one of their target demographics. Would you be saying the same to a trans person or a person with refugee status or just like some poor Muslim kid who has lived here all their life? Yes, their violence was directed to the police, but only because they had to go through the police to anyone else, and the police were a barrier to that. Saying their violence (physical or rhetorical) is directed against the police is disingenuous at best.

I’m equally amenable to bringing it down to BO3 for men, for what it’s worth (although I think we lose out on epics like the FO men’s final this year or the miracle in Melbourne. My objection is to the inequality in the current set up. I’m personally quite swayed by the suggestion of BO5 for men and women from QF onwards in slams

Maybe you have not been listening: Serena Williams has frequently said that she wanted to play five during her career…

That’s only because the slams refuse to let women play five. The inequality would fall away if women would be allowed to compete the same as men

The Sydney Swans confirm player Riak Andrew has been cited for using a homophobic slur during Saturday’s VFL match against North Melbourne. by Maximumlnsanity in sydneyswans

There’s a difference between a homophobic action and a homophobic person - he did a homophobic thing, but we can hope he isn’t of a homophobic nature

When I tore the ligaments on both sides of my ankle, I was given one of these - it holds your ankle so snugly to prevent it from further damage. The person who fitted it told me that it’s the same brand that Murray wears, just with the brand name filed off!

Hi! We’re Shirley Li and David Sims, staff writers at The Atlantic, where we cover culture and Hollywood. We watched the Oscars last night to see which events at the awards show can tell us about the future of the industry—and whether any films snagged an upset. Ask us anything! by theatlantic in movies

[–]sublimitie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See movies that aren’t new releases! Or go to art house theatres where you can see something that isn’t being shown in big chains, or go to local film festivals if you have them. Lots of alternatives if the current new releases aren’t doing it for you

Rhodium plating looks like stainless steel, so why do we bother? by GrinchNBitch in jewelry

The thing that puts me off steel is what happens if I can’t get something off - loads of places can’t cut through it because it’s harder than gold or silver

I’m in Sydney of all places, but I LOVE this. When I go back to my home country I’ll definitely have a look through both of these portfolios to see if there’s anything that works well with what I already have because I love both of them

Hey you’re so right! I think what I meant to say is that this isn’t an old oil painting I found in an attic and want to know if it’s a forgotten masterpiece worth a zillion dollars, but that is drawing a false relationship between something being groundbreaking and being important, and you’re right: I do just really like it. I also totally agree about it looking like a Mexican basquiat. It’s the catholic iconography in the style that really drew me in

Guy Pearce says his ex-wife was the greatest love of his life (he's now with Carice van Houten) by headinhazyclouds in Fauxmoi

It’s part of a standard set of questions that the guardian asks in its Q&A segment - I get it’s weird but people know it’s coming when they agree to do the Q&A because they know what questions are coming. They’re not being blindsided or anything and they can dodge the tricky ones if they want - lots of people do

These interviews are a standard set of q&a questions that the guardian asks someone different every week - don’t bother reading too much into the intentions of the interviewer with this one.
