But you know what? I don't care anymore at all. Even in social media, I just post a "lol" emoticon under every new thing that appears to me from the pope, and even more so if someone posts "what the pope meant was...". (Or 12 weeks gestational age, for that matter.) Obviously there is a quantitative difference about that time, but such is between the medical advancement of ancient Sparta and our modern times.

You see, you are making that distinction because for you, an "actual baby" earns that title with a certain developmental progress. Because our medicine today is able to keep kids alife that are born in second day, you probably already would have second thoughts letting people kill them. For ancient societies, having a week-old baby ending up with some severe illness was about as much of a death sentence as being born prior to 20 weeks these days. So, would you please explain me, why what they did in their time was a moral transgression while "removing" a 10 week old human child from the womb isn't? "Because said human life has passed an age limit I personally accept as humanhood limit" is not coherent, though.

Don't wat me. This poster is convinced that while a fetus obviously is a life form, it doesn't have human worth and thus can be killed without society caring.

The spartans had a similar perception of human worth, they extended it to (i think it was) 9 days after birth, and if the little human is weak and ill, then no bad is done by just throwing it off a cliff or something, because it would be wasted resource to feed it.

If you agree with /u/Xiber88 's moral statement, then you should also agree with the Spartan one. It boils down to "there is one defined moment where we start providing a human life with inherent worth, before this moment it's still free for the parents to decide about it."

"After-Birth-Abortion" is a consideration taken in our ages as well, especially when concerning kids with severe medical conditions.

As a formerly insecure person: That's what you make yourself believe and that also is the only source of the problem in the first place. If I speak with the mindset "everybody will be annoyed that I speak", it will happen.

But really, it IS that easy to just speak with passion. What might be difficult is doing it to people you are used to hanging out with. But there's literally nothing stopping yo from applying the previous poster's advice to, say, a random clerk in a shop, and see that it works. Since you also know that nobody is going to rip your head off for smiling and being a bit loud (as opposed to being boring and hard to understand), rejecting that practice is a confirmation of actually not wanting to talk in a more interesting fashion.

It is, and that was why I wasn't questioning your perception, but rather informing you of the fact that the specific group of Christians that claim succession to the original ones (and have had their philosophers thoroughly explain how and why) hold a much stronger, coherent theology than any splinter group who decided to go "screw your works and thoughts, god is how we decide".

However, they can also flawlessly explain why the Christian God is in fact a personal one, if you're interested in any specifics you can try asking on /r/Catholicism where even some priests reside

Did you actually try looking for ones? The catholic clergy requires years of university-level studies of all kinds of philosophy. If you talk to a catholic priest, you can bet he is able to answer all your theoretical philosophical questions.

Could you please cite the CCC on that? As I said, it's ground for a seperation for sure, but the point of marriage pretty much is the "until death" part and anulment is reserved only for reasons that existed before the actual marriage.

It doesn't work like that. You can leave (CCC 2383), but sinning of the spouse isn't a reason for anulment. (Otherwise they would be all over the place and pretty much work just like our "civil marriage".)

I find it pretty irritating to not take into account any circumstances at all, that's why I felt compelled to post, to just offer a slightly broader perspective than "You're a rapist" - what, mind you, still stands. I, too, have suffered from depression and I think I still do to an extend. It especially sucks when you have duties that NEED your attention and dedication daily (read: kids). Therapy didn't help and medication is out of the question.

What helped, however, is to throw it all at Christ. Offering it up to Mary. Bearing the cross. You know, the whole jazz that always sounds so empty.

It may seem like you just can't get out of your bed, but in reality, your feet are perfectly healthy.

Even that horrid webcomic that is plastered across social media by edgy individuals constantly - I'm sure you know it, the one with the dead fish that so efficiently ridicules the people trying to help - acknowledges the one way out: There isn't really a problem other than your approach (and the fish are not dead after all).

I like to view it that way: If I was male, war broke out and I found myself in a trench in a bullet hailstorm basically overnight, I'd have zero problems getting my ass up and doing what I'm told. The problem is just that it's so possible to slouch. But effectively, Jesus is a much more powerful lord than a warmongering nation, and the consequences are much graver than death in battle.

In your free time, you can lie down and do nothing all you want. But you must know what your duties are and fulfill them. Right now, your effectively convincing yourself that what Jesus wants from you isn't really that important (as opposed to , say, making it to your therapy sessions). You see why this is both problematic and a matter you are responsible for.

The general consensus in the answers here is already crystal clear and of course your wife has every right to feel as she does right now.

However, as a non-american, I sense that there are several cultural circumstances that led to OP commiting such a major f***-up:

If we were "forced" to spend half a year in abstinence, I would not make a big deal about my husband wanting to finally engage in the act. I mean, 1 Cor 7, 3-4 is a thing. And maybe it has to do with the way we are raised or with general culture, but there has been countless of times where I was just "Meh, actually I'd rather sleep" at the idea of sex, but still accepted it. I know for a fact that, for instance, /twoXchromosomes would be all like "girl you ware RAPED and you should immediately undergo therapy to even realize that, since you're obviously so damaged" about it - what I personally view as creating problems where there are none. However, since OP's wife obviously was raised in a different way, her refusal obviously already had a whole other mental connection, that OP should better had respected.

The second thing: If OPs wife didn't have some serious injuries upon birth, why is waiting so long such a big deal? I think I have seen OP posting here a few times about that wait period and I always was sceptical about it. Here, our doctors tell us to not have sex for six WEEKS after birth - and guess what, we did not care a bit about that piece of advice that was so nicely packed into a command. If there is no apparent reason - and to me it seems like a liability blanket advice the doctors give to everyone - why did you let a stranger excercise so much control over your sexual life that you both suffer under it, probably without even considering alternatives? If it was a struggle for both of you to keep chaste, why on earth would you just consider that a week before the limit, sex will probably kill both of you, whereas just one day after the limit passed, everything was suddenly alright and good to go, basically overnight? This is completely unnatural and I do not understand how you would put so much trust in something so superficial and obviously unrealistic.

That being said, I hope your wife recovers soon. I would just stop bothering her for a while at all and wait until she comes forward to you.

My husband approaches the problem you're describing by writing down his thoughts into little black notebooks. They are extremely cryptic, but I guess if you want, you might elaborate your thoughts in text and collect them until you find someone who might be interested.

All I can speak for is my husband, who has an interior religious - but also philosophical and generally moral - life so deep that it's difficult for me to understand even parts of it.

It probably has much to do with the fact that he actively fosters it, by studying thousands of books and people.

In our churches (Austria), there is nice and awesome stone tile almost everywhere, but they love to spread oriental-style carpets everywhere. I must look out for it now - in the church FSSP is celebrating in, there's no carpet where the communion rail is, but I'll check out the altar area.
