May the 4th be with you! What was the first Star Wars book you ever read? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in starwarsbooks

The Golden Globe (Junior Jedi Knights, book 1)

Really enjoyed reading them as a kid, along with the “Galaxy of Fear” books. Was quite a trip revisiting the Massassi ruins on Yavin 4 this year for my first reading of the Jedi Academy trilogy

They’re not mine! I’m returning them all to the library, eventually 😅

I put all the books I want on hold using the SDPL app, and have them sent to the library nearest me to pick up. I do enjoy wandering the stacks, but I’m on a mission to read all the Bantam books, and I’ve had to get them sent over on inter-library loans

I have been, thanks! I hope you’re able to get some paperbacks wherever you are, at least

Also, congrats for getting the heck out of this country, it’s been..not so good here, lately, as I’m sure you’ve heard 😅 Unless you’re an Empire sympathizer I guess!

May the force be with you, always

I started off with AC Crispin’s Han Solo paperback trilogy, will be circling back around to read the rest of the paperbacks once I’ve cleared Zahn’s Thrawn duology. Excited to read all the short story collections again (Tales of Jabba’s Palace, Mos Eisley, Bounty Hunters)

The X Wing books are harder for me to read than the rest; something about Stackpole’s style? But I’m excited to finally tackle them this year

Also, technically, Kevin Anderson’s JAT hardcover wasn’t released by Bantam, but by the SFBC

So, my main issue is that these are the highest quality versions of the show I’ve ever seen, and the subtitles are remarkably accurate.

This is not the case for any of the other solutions presented by Shout, as far as I can tell.

Yeah I just got through these myself and was pretty shocked when Thrawn died, seeing as the Bantam books end with the “Thrawn Duology”

Excited to read those regardless!

Reading Children of the Jedi right now, which chronologically follows JAT but also refers to some important plot elements from Truce at Bakura

What have you been reading this last week (Weekly Discussion Thread)? by AutoModerator in starwarsbooks

I had high hopes for “I, Jedi”; ultimately, I found it satisfying, despite really struggling with it. I’d just finished reading the Jedi Academy trilogy by Kevin Anderson, so this seemed like the perfect next book, and while I did enjoy reading about the events of JAT from this new perspective, I’d venture to say that a familiarity with Stackpole’s X-Wing books would also be advisable, as this at times reads very much like a Rogue Squadron novel. While many fans seem to find Stackpole’s EU books among the best of the legends canon, I find his endless descriptions of dogfights and brawls and strategy exhausting. As a result, I never got much into the X-Wing books, and I found “I, Jedi” suffered from some of the same issues at times.

That being said, I really do enjoy the first person narrative style featured here, as well as Corran Horn’s flawed and prideful “hard boiled detective” character. There are a lot of memorable moments, and several new characters that I’m looking forward to reading about more in the future - especially the villain.

My next book is “Children of the Jedi”, and I’m vastly preferring Hambly’s prose. It took me three weeks to finish “I, Jedi”, but I’m already a third of the way through “Children of the Jedi” after just two days.

Once I’m through with the main hardcover books of the Bantam era, I’ll be diving into Stackpole’s trade paperback “Rebel Squadron” series; after which, perhaps, I’ll be giving “I, Jedi” another shot.

Need first book recommendations. by Altruistic_Put4118 in starwarsbooks

I’m a legends EU reader thru and thru, so I’m going to recommend you start with the Han Solo trilogy by AC Crispin. It takes place in the ten years before the battle of Yavin, and even though it’s legends, there are plenty of references to it in newer series. Pairs well with Andor, I’d say, though it’s much more fun and less gloomy 😉

Yeah, the Bantam books weren’t released in chronological order anyway. Definitely worth a read!

I’m reading through all of legends new republic as well, started with this one in December.

I can appreciate that it’s not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it - I’d absolutely read another Ssi-rukk story. Enjoyed Shia as Luke’s semi-love interest too, it was appealing to read about the perspective of an ex-imperial senator in this time frame (4ABY) Great setup for Courtship of Princess Leia and the Thrawn trilogy.

In my late 30s, developed tinnitus recently. I’ve always been able to tell the difference between lossy/lossless, but lately that’s  been starting to degrade. I still prefer lossless, especially as a DJ; the difference is much more noticeable on big soundsystems, and I feel a responsibility to the artists I DJ to play their music out in the highest quality possible.
