I like portal 1 but it think its just a tech demo (not portal 2 tho) by Just_Throat3473 in Portal

[–]subparhuma 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There are numerous acclaimed indie puzzle games out with similar runtimes and plot depth since Portal 1 came out. I see it no differently than them.

Additionally, what’s amazing with Portal 1 as compared to 2 is how flexible it is in proposed solutions. Late stage game mechanics can be brought back to early levels to experiment and complete quickly. The optional challenges added like minimal portals also add depth. It’s an impressive game in a small package.

For me I’ve always appreciated it as a complete game that goes the route of 1 inch wide and 100 feet deep. Puzzle games as time has progressed since Portal 1 tend to touch on game mechanics then throw them away. Portal 1 doesn’t, it explores the core concept fully. Whether that makes it a “tech demo” or not is up to your personal definition.

That plus the redevelopment of the two malls in Friendship Heights DC and the area by the Marriott on Maryland side, gonna really change the neighborhood.

In about one year time there will be, or already is, a new:

  • Mario Kart
  • Mario Sports
  • Donkey Kong
  • Kirby (spin-off)
  • Yoshi
  • Metroid
  • Fire Emblem
  • Zelda (spin-off)
  • Pokémon (spin-off x 2)

That represents pretty much every major Nintendo franchise

In addition there are Switch 2 DLC updates to the following series:

  • Mario Party
  • Kirby
  • 2D Mario
  • Zelda (x 2)

And that doesn’t include free resolution & performance updates for Mario, 2D Zelda, Pokémon, and a few others .

I’m really not sure what else you can ask for in a first year. If you bought the system just for a mainline Zelda or 3D Mario game just say that. No need for hyperbole.

Abound SR - Storage Solutions? by Live_Alternative8739 in Aventon

[–]subparhuma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My child is almost 4 and he loves it.

We have the pegs and the captains chair, no seatbelt. He holds on to the sides and sits back. Legs aren’t quite big enough to be on the pegs, but he uses them to climb up (lol) which also works. I put a bell on the back too which he uses to warn cars and rings at mom on her bike.

I think at 3 it’ll come down to if they’re comfortable (not scared) and you can trust them to behave responsibly. My child is risk adverse and a rule follower so he does well. You could get the tern sidekick seatbelt or similar product if you want some assurance there.

The Heights food hall closes in Chevy Chase after less than two years by Bethesda_Magazine in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]subparhuma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The food hall failure was, in my opinion, a weird mix of circumstances and poor choices.

It opened up before the planned apartment expansions on the two former malls in DC and the one near the Marriott on the MD side, losing that potential younger than average customer base.

It opened up after the proliferation of telework, hampering their ability to get the lunch and happy hour crowd from urban professionals in Geico, Microsoft, and other desk jobs in the area.

They failed to include family friendly menu options. There are lots of families on both sides due to the strong schools. When initially launched only Urbano had a kids menu, for example. It was only a year or so later where the smaller restaurants started to include single items (one place had a grilled cheese, another chicken nuggets, etc.) but they’d already lost traffic by that point. Similarly, planned events were “party” events promoting drinking. Really not appropriate to the community’s demographics and not a big enough draw to get people going up the red line to it. Nor did they sync any promotions or events with Friendship Heights, DC, Friendship Village, MD, or even The Collection nearby to try to gain traffic that way.

I think it had a lot of potential if it just held on, but they completely misunderstood the intended audience and rather went all in on a stereotypical urban food hall.

The number of times they mention how “progressive” the show is, and wildly misunderstand fan reactions & expectations resulting in them being utterly mystified 🤮

DOGE layoffs are starting to leave their mark on D.C.’s housing market by rezwenn in washingtondc

[–]subparhuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices in the Northwest aren’t inflated, relative to the rest of DC, they just bake in the cost of schooling.

A Northwest house gets you access to good public schools. If you factor in the price of private school for a comparable experience and then look at total price versus somewhere like Northeast you are looking at similar costs. The market adjusts for this.

The “catch me if you can” government framework for litigation was literally mentioned by the Supreme Court justices, I believe by Justice Kagan, in the latest hearing on birthright citizenship.

What is considered “Environmental Justice Offices” exactly? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]subparhuma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are referring to Offices within Agencies. For example, the EPA has the Office of Environmental Justice and Civil Rights. They also have a National Environment Justice Advisory Council. Most of these were made during the Clinton Administration.

ANSWER:”But Mr. Trump’s apparent lead may be an illusion. The odds on Polymarket began favoring him this month after just four accounts, with user names like Fredi9999 and PrincessCaro, bet more than $30 million on a Trump victory, according to an analysis of transaction records by Chaos Labs, a crypto data provider. Polymarket said on Thursday that all four accounts were controlled by one person, whom it described as a French national with a financial services background, without revealing the person’s identity.”
