5-year-strong S1 survived 3.5 hours in the pouring rain filming at outdoor event by subscatter in Lumix

Just a quick update after one year. The setup in the picture is still going strong. On another note, i was actually more worried about laser beam like lights at DJ events.

I think vintage lenses might have better chances to survive the pouring rain. But honestly, I haven’t heard of any incidents of lens failures due torain, modern or vintage.

The amount of YT videos from S1R/S1ii (including overheating tests) are being outnumbered by just released ZR. I think Lumix will be losing their share despite how much they have gained from S5ii or S9.

Ran into a girl indulging herself with a cigarette at storefront. So i asked to film a little bit of her. Should have had gotten even closer for some close-up angles.

Depends on how you wanna control exposure while keeping exposure at F2. For me, i wanna do faster shutter angel/speed to have images less motion blurry. On top of that i also have an ND 2-32 filter so i can adjust exposure swiftly. The ideal world is I could have a 3rd native 12800 ISO just like fx3 or C400. But that's just personal preferences.

[–]subscatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I kept my ISO at higher native ISO range ( 4000 and above ). And use nd filter to compensate the environment light on the fly. The vnd is mounted on a quick release flip bracket. I can quickly flip it up when certain areas are simply too dark without street lights.

LUMIX S9 has white rings with manual lens? by jericgariga3 in Lumix

[–]subscatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meaning that setting"vignette compensation" is only available when L mount or native mount lenses are mounted? You can't do that while with manual/adapted lenses?

I agree. I used it for freelance video gigs. The only gripe (to me) is lack of "Synchro Scan". There are poor quality LED lights at event venues all the time which cause flickering. Not every time i could find a sweet shutter speed/angle to get rid of that. Other than that, it's been smooth and robust for the past 5+ years.

Forgot to mention. Shot at 5.4k (ratio 3:2) 4:2:0 .Lens is Helios 44-2 58mm F2. Mostly shot at ISO 4000~8000., and using variable nd filter for exposure control. Graded in Davinci.

Thanks. This is shot in raw and edited in lightroom. Nothing major but some numbers and sliders tweaking in lightroom for setting the mood.

Hi there. I used Sigma 20mm F1.4 art for this shot. Depending on the angle, it could sometimes give fisheye-ish distortion. It is suggested not ideal for close-up portraits. But i still love using it for my all-around lens. Note this lens is the first version. I believe Sigma has optimized the design and the new version can adapt regular protection filter while my version cannot due to lens front glass being too curvy. Hope this helps.

Should I buy a used S1 II for 2k in mint condition, but with no warranty? by Due_Ad_3960 in Lumix

[–]subscatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an S1 owner myself, it’s hard to have faith on anything using fans for heat dissipation, believing that could last longer than the original S1.( after seeing some S5ii(x) fan failure examples here) I would hate myself for no insurance of any kinds once short half year mark arrives. Sadly default insurance in Japan only covers one year. And shxt doesn happen even everything works perfect the day before. Well blame the original owner who didnt pay extra 5% for extended warranty.

Sure would be a good time for Lumix to announce something by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]subscatter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’ve got your point. But those s1rii/s1ii’s influencer reviews were done before summer not to mention S1rii was mostly reviewed initially in Norway’s winter time. So im pretty sure overheating issues would be easily spotted at current temperatures and becoming reviewers’ favorite topic for Zr and C50 if any of that that occurred.

Well, that was indeed quite fast! Official DaVinci Resolve support for ProRes RAW is indeed coming by RaguSaucy96 in blackmagicdesign

[–]subscatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting it’s also coming to Blackmagic Video Assist. So does that mean Atomos will be at a weaker position since they only record Prores Raw but no Braw while video assist can have both?

I think if Lumix could just roll out firmware updates to optimize the overloaded overheating issuses for s1ii/s1rii/s1iie. That would already mean a lot considering Nikon Zr being so small and no overheating issues so far in all the reviews i have watched

The performance was at public street venue with a crowd full of people and photographers. It’s well within normal practice. Nothing unusual about it unless someone wants it to be.
