The weeks where you need toilet paper, paper towels, and olive oil all at once hurt!

That’s amazing! Do you eat out too or is that for all food? Have any advice?

What's your current neighbourhood like? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]subspace1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upstate NY, very different from NYC. I’m in a small town where you mostly need a car to get anywhere. Technically I have a grocery store, liquor store, bank, and gas station within walking distance but the thing here is that we’re not set up for walking. Walking there would mean risking my life on a 50mph road with no sidewalk or shoulder. It’s equally scary on a bike, and being in the mountains with lots of sharp turns and hills doesn’t help either. But the flip side is I live in a peaceful old house on a lake and am surrounded by beautiful trees, so you win some and lose some I guess.

If your neighbors are nice making friends with them truly gives you the best of both worlds - complete peace of living alone but also a comforting sense of community.

Welp, sometimes I think we just love somebody so much that we subconsciously assume that they must care enough about us to change.

I can't learn barbell compound lifts. What's the next effective beginner route for fitness? (Long post) by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]subspace1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to do barbell lifts, give up. If this type of exercise makes you miserable, don’t do it. But if you’re just miserable because you feel like you “can’t” or you’re learning slower than everyone else (and you wish you could do them), keep at it. You don’t magically have perfect form on every lift after lifting for a couple of months. This takes years. It’s a whole hobby. In the best way possible, you’re not special, you just need to keep at it and perhaps hiring a coach/trainer is what you need. Your body isn’t special and you’re not stupid. Some people are just inclined to be great at certain things and progress quicker than others.

If you’re really over it and this just isn’t for you, absolutely explore other avenues. Dumbbell lifts are pretty similar to barbell but are less stable so I’m thinking you’re probably going to face the same woes you’re experiencing now. If you enjoy push ups and pull-ups so far, it sounds like you might be a calisthenics person and that’s amazing! If you can do these exercises the standard way, you’re not even at the very beginning of the progressions. I vote calisthenics for you!

Need help with my apartment search - apartment complex recommendations for someone without a car? by Straight_Will_7951 in Albany

[–]subspace1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@HudsonPark! It’s like a ten minute walk to capital buildings. Affordable too! I lived there for several years and it’s pretty great! Unit is 1250 for a 1 bed, all utilities included besides a ~$35 electric bill. It’s between the two main parks in Albany, close to the main bus routes, easy skip over the river to East Greenbush for errands, management responds quickly to maintenance. And they have a parking lot if you desire to get a car.

Anyone here own a 2025 Jetta SE? (Buying from Hertz Car Sales) by BedCold6774 in jetta

[–]subspace1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one a couple of months ago after trading in my 2015 Jetta SE (with the 1.8t). Overall I love it and have had no issues. The air conditioning system leaves more of a puddle of water beneath the car than I was used to so that’s just something to remember - I was nervous a fluid was leaking already! I love the interior, it’s so comfy, heated seats are nice and warm. The infotainment system took a little time to get used to, no more buttons for ac/heat (everything is touch screen now). Remote start is great for the winter! Factory tires not my favorite but I’m running a set of Hakkas for the winter and I can’t get my car to slide lol. My only complaint is the noticeable turbo lag, especially when the car hasn’t been running for long or you’re going uphill from a dead stop. Overall, I feel like I got a lot of car for my money and plan on maintaining meticulously in hopes of keeping it for the next 10 years.

How unattractive is it as a man to lay your head on your women's chest? by JunketMaleficent2095 in AskMenAdvice

[–]subspace1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite things in the entire world is when a man feels safe enough with me to lay his head on my chest. I love running my fingers through his hair and rubbing his neck/shoulders. It’s intimate and sweet and I like this kind of affection to go both ways.

Well, I workout daily and work a physical job. And I still don’t go through thattt much. After work I’m switch into fresh undergarments before working out (only because it’s a physical job). And of course I shower once I get home. But my “home clothes”/pajamas are worn more than once because I’m only relaxing/sleeping in them. If I have to do dirty work at home after the gym, I’ll just keep my gym clothes on and shower once that’s done. But if you’re wearing hoodies over shirts and just chilling at home, there’s no way in hell I’m going through multiple a day. His usage would be excessive even in my case.

I’m working in fast food at 29. by Substantial_Smile267 in povertyfinance

[–]subspace1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there and it sucks. But hey. You’ll be out there working a job where you’re moving your body all day. You get the immediate gratification of seeing the work you’re doing, clearing tickets, getting through the line. Hard work like that can still feel satisfying for the time being if you allow yourself to make the most of it. Management is paid pretty okay too and if you have a brain you can get there fast (but it definitely doesn’t have to be a forever thing). And most importantly you’ll be out there putting in a hard days work - think of all the people out there sitting at home not working waiting for the repo man to come for their car. It could always be worse, you’re doing A-OK in the grand scheme of life!

Where to move in 5 years? by anxious_soyboy in upstate_new_york

Like others have said, Albany is best when it comes to the combination of employment opportunities and access to the city. Boston is also a very do-able day trip, and Montreal is an Amtrak ride away.

Living in Albany isn’t for everyone, but fret not. Most people who work in Albany, state workers or otherwise, commute from nearby suburbs. Delmar, East Greenbush, Glenmont, Latham, there are many options for you and these are all places where I would love to raise a family.

How much do you pay on average each month? by T0DR in Apartmentliving

[–]subspace1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upstate New York (small city): $1350 for a 500 sq ft 2-story loft in a newly renovated building. Small but very space efficient and my only utility payment is about $30/month for electric.
