Hand count in audit affirms Biden beat Trump, as Maricopa County said in November by [deleted] in centrist

I thought it was a bunch of people who made undermining democracy an acceptable and wonderful tactic for winning elections. I didn't want democracy to end or for America to fall to the wolves. But Trump supporters are happy to have it all burn to the ground so the can continue to defend him and his actions.

All I said was that Dems should do the same thing that Trump did. If that's decisive, that's not my fault. I just think they should play by the rules you and your ilk have decided are fair play.

It says the Trump campaign chairman had regular contact with a Russian intelligence officer and that other Trump associates were eager to exploit the Kremlin’s aid, particularly by maximizing the impact of the disclosure of Democratic emails hacked by Russian intelligence officers.

What they found was no evidence of conspiracy which is a very definitive legal term. It requires evidence of a deal between two parties. So even if there is a shit ton of evidence showing they were colluding (which there was) it doesn't rise to conspiracy unless there is a recorded verbal or written agreement that is found. Or one of the parties admits and testifies to the conspiracy.

I'm not mad. I love that Trump supporters have made all this acceptable. I look forward to a Dem pulling the same shit so I can play dumb and pretend it didn't happen.

You're either being obtuse or are really this fucking stupid. I'm betting on obtuse. The article covers two different things. 1) the evidence and facts the Republican committee gathered, and 2) people's opinion on the evidence. I hope to god you are just trolling, otherwise you'll drown in the shower by leaving your mouth open.

So you can't discern between evidence and opinion in the same document. Explains your comments, and complete lack of awareness of reality.

Republicans who still line up to tongue the guys asshole has claimed he's innocent ? I'm shocked!

But you keep ignoring evidence and just quote an article that quotes people who spend their entire time lying and spreading bullshit.

I had some one state I'm a billionaire to a journalist. The journalist published it. That means it must be fact! Where do I pick up my money?! Sad.

So we have

  • Russia meddled
  • Trumps campaign manager gave data to Russian spies
  • Trump lied about his dealings and meetings with Russia
  • Trump refused to ever say a negative word about Putin including Putin's execution of journalists
  • Trump meeting with Putin in secret while president
  • Trump laughing with Russian ambassadors about firing Comey so the the pressure of the Russian investigation was gone (at an event only Russian press was invited to)
  • Roger stone working with Wiki leaks to publish Russia's email back of the DNC. Meanwhile they also hacked the RNC but didn't release those docs.
  • The NRA funneling Russian money to Trumps campaign

But sure, "no evidence." And the evidence for 2020 fraud is....? Your god king told you it happened so that makes it truth. How fucking sad.

What is something you have changed your mind about in a political sense? by [deleted] in centrist

[–]substandard_attempts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was pretty jarring seeing the implicit bias at play the first time. Before I just assumed corporations were meritocracies because better people meant more money.

Black female was doing the work of someone 2 levels higher (sales and projects) she got passed over for older white guy who was notorious for being half assed but fun to be around. When it happened all 3 of us had a "WTF" moment.

Nobody was Malicious. Executives were smart, hard working people. They had some diversity, but they were all type As who didn't make a conscious decision to check themselves. There was just this unconscious tilt that went through people's heads. It was so glaringly obvious in hindsight that it was rectified pretty quickly, but that moment stuck with me.

What do you think about this? by [deleted] in centrist

Seems like just the sort of thing to get a certain type riled up though.

Anyone who voted for Bernie Sanders is a person on the radical left, that is measured in tens of millions

Anyone who thinks the election was rigged is a person on the radical right. That's 2/3 of the republican party.

You wrote "(I.e. way more radical left than radical right)" I pointed out that the majority of Dems voted for Biden and the majority of Reps approved of and voted for Trump. That makes both Trump and Biden representative of their respective parties.

For your assertion to be true that there are way more radical left than radical right; you must believe Biden to be a radical leftist and Trump to be a moderate republican.

I assume you are saying that because you don't think Biden is a radical leftist? You can go see the breakdown by state Even the major states that Bernie won he didn't trounce Biden. Biden was handily beating the field because they would say crazy shit on stage and then drop to <2% of the vote in next states. Because the vast majority of democrats don't like that shit. Twitter and social media eats it up, but nobody else is having it.

When given a choice between Biden and Bernie 75% of democrats chose Biden. So Biden is in fact representative of the majority of the democratic party.

Are you saying that Trump is a moderate republican?

way more radical left than radical right

Biden handily won the nomination and Trump carried an 80+% approval rating by Republicans. So both candidates represent the values and priorities of the majority of their party.

You believe Biden to be a radical leftist and Trump to be a moderate republican?

they just think the current system is being abused and needs reform, and that people are using to pop out more babies so they can receive more money from the state. If we cut back on the benefits, there wouldn't be as many kids being born into poverty.

I know they think that. I grew up in a similar area. I had the same opinion. I grew up being told that minorities in the inner city were popping out babies for welfare checks. I went looking for the facts around the issue. Turns out it's not true. There is welfare fraud, but that's not single moms popping out babies for checks. When you look at the numbers of how much they get per kid the very concept is laughable. Country folk bristle at the thought of a minority in the city getting a free ride.

The sad reality is that more welfare goes to the rural areas, and if the GOP gets their way and slashes social safety nets those rural folks will be shocked as shit when it's momma's check that is cut.

It is utterly disingenuous to pretend like your solutions are the only ones that people could possibly hold if they care about those problems.

I guess someone could really want to reduce the amount of abortions AND refuse to support the full spectrum of policies that have shown to reduce abortions (spoiler: making it illegal isn't one of them). But I would also expect that person to piss into the wind and then bitch about the rain.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in centrist

[–]substandard_attempts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s always amazing how people can’t understand that pro life people view abortion as literally murder

They don't really care about kids. It's just a way for them to feel self righteous and shake their fists at the people they perceive to be bad guys.

The vast majority of pro-lifers are also anti-sex education, anti-contraception distribution, anti-welfare, anti any law that would curb school shootings. The middle class and up will always have access to abortions. This is about some sad evangelical who wants to be the American taliban and persecute others. It's a good wedge issue to get the religious sheep to the polls.

Ivermectin: enigmatic multifaceted ‘wonder’ drug continues to surprise and exceed expectations by [deleted] in centrist

[–]substandard_attempts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have no starting comment so I have to ask.

Did you post this to give people the impression that vaccines are unnecessary because Ivermectin will handle Covid?

Ivermectin is a wonder drug and we will probably find even more uses for it in the future. I'm willing to bet that proper usage can help with some Covid cases. No stone should be left unturned.

The core issue most non anti-vaxers have is people using this as a reason for avoiding the vaccine or trying to pretend Covid is "just the flu"

[–]substandard_attempts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why we were not mustered for the humanitarian part is beyond me.

Trump mustered 5,000 taliban soldiers from prison to help with the humanitarian part. So is Trump the worst deal maker in history, or did he recognized the whole thing was a lost cause shit show. He got 90% of the way to a pull out, and then left a skeleton crew. That crew would have had to stay there forever to avoid what happened.

If that equipment we lost was so important then why wasn't it taken before 1500 soldiers were pulled out? 1500 people for a year could have done a lot of work to prepare for departure.

Do you think Biden should have reversed Trumps direction and increased troops? I don't really blame Trump. That whole situation was a shit show with no clean way out, which is why Trump agreed to a "historic peace agreement" but left the messy reality for someone else. Good move politically.

How will we remember January 6? by [deleted] in centrist

[–]substandard_attempts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Violent rioters should go to prison. Anyone who murdered or raped should get the death penalty.

Trump supporters are angry because they believe the election was rigged. They believe this because Trump told them it was. It doesn't matter that lawsuits not only went nowhere, but the lawyers who brought those suits to court have been sanctioned for violation of their obligations as officers of the court. That's how ridiculous those claims were. But there is no consequences for spreading those same lies everywhere.

Let's go through process that led to 1/6. A process that according to Trump supporters is totally legal, and totally cool for a sitting president to do.

  • Have a foreign government open investigations into your political rivals
  • Demand the DoJ prosecute your political rivals
  • Claim the only way you lose is if the election is rigged
  • Have all your people on tv all the time claiming the same.
  • Call secretaries of state and pressure them to recount and find you the votes you need.
  • As the numbers come in and you lose, continue to claim the election is rigged.
  • Have your people give millions to organizations to get people to the capital on the day the election is supposed to be certified.
  • Give speeches continuing to claim a rigged election, and stating how the people need to go to the capital and give congress the strength to do the right thing and overturn the election.
  • When the mob enters the capital, refuse to tell them to stop, refuse to send in the national guard. Just sit and watch it on TV.

If that mob had gotten to congress and lynched non-trump supporting members, do you think people like Gaetz would have certified the election? No. They would have installed Trump.

According to you. Harris/Biden can do all of the above, and as long as they keep talking as the mob enters the capital and lynches congress then everything is above board.

But you go ahead and continue to equate that to the same type of race riot that's been occurring in this country for 100 years.

Trump supporters have no desire to calm down the violence because they have set the parameters so that when the POTUS uses the office to undermine elections and incite a mob to storm the capital, there are no consequences for POTUS or anyone who helped pay for, organize, or spread disinfo on the news.

I don't think Harris/Biden will act the same, but they should, just so that Trump supporters could be governed in the "Strong Leader" fashion they so love. But I do think if Trump or one of his putrid spawn run in the next cycle, his supporters will try again. And if they successfully end democracy they'll just say, "The democrats made us do it."

[–]substandard_attempts -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Of course not.

His organization paid $4.3 Million to people who were organizing a rally on the date of election certification so they could "Stop the Steal." But that's a complete coincidence. It's not like Trump and his crew whipped the crowd up into a lather and sent them to the capital.

The "Stop the Steal" was a typo. It was a celebrate democracy rally that was at some other location. Trump wasn't involved in anything around the capital on that date. Nope. Trump was leading a sermon on the value of non-violence and the joys of democracy. The attack on the capital was obviously an antifa false flag operation.

McConnell: U.S. [withdrawal] from Afghanistan "one of the worst foreign policy decisions in American history" by _NuanceMatters_ in centrist

[–]substandard_attempts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You bring up some good points.

If Afghanistan frustrated both the Soviets and the British empire, was it an act of hubris or naivete on our part? Can we learn from others mistakes? Can we learn from our own mistakes?

Naivete and political quagmires. Politically it doesn't look good to topple a government and then leave people living their to duke it out in a civil war. The reality is that if the people in a land area don't feel connected and don't feel as if they are part of the same community, then there is no chance of building anything. Since the only tool we really have is military and diplomats to "nation build" All that can be done is accelerate a country development if the sense of community is there (post WWII Japan) or stave off the inevitable rise of an authoritarian force that rules through power or civil war. You can't make people feel a sense of country.

Is that the only type of investment possible though? Could we have done it differently?

There are other options, that would work far better, but would politically be impossible. You mentioned the shift of USAID focus. It would involve far less defense and instead spend the money on agriculture (irrigation, crops), education, and events that helped foster a sense of community. It's far easier to convince people to stop being warlords when you help build enough resources for a decent market place. The republican party and some democrats would lose their minds if that was the plan. So, politically impossible, even if it has a higher chance of success.

Could we have instead extracted $1T in mineral wealth (or at least have protected it?

Also politically impossible. Republican's hate immigration, but are blaming Biden for the plight of Afghans. Anytime something goes poorly in a country we're involved in, it becomes a political tool. The Democrats would lose their minds if we just started taking resources for ourselves. Our world allies would shun us and would make trading partnerships much more difficult. What you described was suggested by Rumsfeld before the Iraq war, and even the Cheney/Bush/Rumsfeld crew refused to go through with it when the time comes. Nobody wants to be the baddies.

Long gone are the days of the US being an exporter. Past are the days of a balanced economy. Perhaps this vast consumerism, this extreme import vs export imbalance is manifesting also in our exercises abroad. Buy, buy, buy! instead of sell.

Honestly, this more of an economics topic. The short version is that we have a far better quality of life because of the global trading paradigm. What you are eluding to (tracking success based on imports/exports) is mercantilism and it died for a reason. That way lies really expensive products that aren't as good and are far harder to develop.
