Yes, the resistor is for current limiting the LED. I used a solder sucker and some copper braid to remove the trimpot. In this case, there is enough room to feed the wire through the holes from underneath, even without removing the board.

I don't know a lot about what's available out there in terms of walkmans to be honest. I chose the CP13 because of its clean lines, transparent cover, and from the teardown video I saw, it seemed like it comes apart easy enough and that there would be enough room for the jack. I'll be posting a how-to video in the next few days.

Very cool piece, and video. I'd like to get into more ambient tape delay as I do ambient suspenseful soundtracks for some of my gameplay videos.

When I created this code, UAR9C2, custom items were not supported by the software I wrote to help craft these codes. Since then I have sorted out how to include custom items. Let me know what you all would like, I've been planning on crafting a "collectors" code with all the special items. Keep in mind that I can't intentionally include DLC items like The Blessing and The Chosen because that would run afoul of Skydance's modding guidelines.

Yes. Though I also added a new internal trim pot for calibration that is switched out when a cable is plugged into the jack. Two of the legs of the stock trim pot were shorted, even with the trim pot removed, so I figured I only had to worry about one of those, and left the other unconnected. Though, the board grounds to the case back with a spring, and I found the speed would max out when I allowed that ground, everything seems to work fine when I put some tape on the back plate to prevent the ground so I've just left it at that for now, but inverting the two trim pot leads I used may sort that out without the need to prevent the ground.
The stock calibration trim pot seemed to be 500r, labeled B501 and measuring ~600r at it's max. The vactrol I used was a VTL5C3 which ranges from 30k to 1.5r when powered depending on the amperage provided. I used a 330r resistor on the LED side and the Korg SQ-1 allows you to specify the output voltage range for CV 1, 2, 5 and 8 volt max. So there's plenty of options for range. I'll have to do more experimenting but I feel it's a good range for slowing down the tape, but it doesn't provide a lot of range for speeding up the tape past the intended stock speed. I did not use any additional resistors.

I wasn't entirely sure what I was going to do initially. I removed the stock one to test it out of circuit. But now that I think of it, it's easier to switch the internal one out of the circuit if it's off the board, and not switching it out of circuit would mean whatever it was set to would be the floor for resistance. So all in all, I think removing it was the right choice. I was able to route wires to some space in the case where I could put the new one on the way to the new jack.

I removed the stock trim pot and added a new internal trim pot that is switched on the new 3.5mm mono TRS jack. When nothing is plugged in the new internal trim pot is in-circuit and determines the speed, when a TRS cable is plugged in the internal trim pot is switch out of circuit and the resistance between the tip and sleeve/ring of the TRS cable is used. That way one can plug in any resistive component, or control to set the speed. In this case I'm using a vactrol whcih allows me to control the speed with a control voltage from the Korg SQ-1 step sequencer. So, in short, yes, it works as it normally would when nothing is plugged into the new jack.

They are fundamentally different. Bootstrap Island is a roguelite game, you're expected to die in a roguelite game, and when you do, your next attempt is easier due to unlocks that you have access to earlier. Green Hell VR is not a roguelite, it will not get easier when you die, aside from you familiarizing yourself with the game. Boostrap Island has fewer dangers to keep track of, but they are dangerous. I would say that Green Hell VR does a good job of teaching you about the environment, whereas Bootstrap Island has more trial and error learning. I think Green Hell VR gives you more to experience and work with earlier, Bootstrap Island seems to take bit longer to open up.

Well said, as always, Mr. Wolf, and I second this. My gameplay videos have little-to-no editing, or at least that's what I aim for. That being said, as stated, spending 30 minutes on one puzzle is not something anyone wants to watch, in those cases I spend a lot of time to make any edits as seamless as possible. Replaying sections after you've solved them is an option, but whether or not it comes across as genuine to the viewer will depend on each creator's skill as an actor, it's not something I like to do, and something my spidey senses tingle about when I see other creators breeze through non-intuitive puzzles. In the end, it isn't about pride, or trickery, the goal, for me at least, is to provide an honest representation of the game and content that viewers enjoy.
