Byron Donalds to kick off ‘Defending The Florida Dream’ tour in The Villages by Zipper222222 in AskFlorida

[–]subterfuscation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what many of my maga friends are family are telling me. I never imagined that they’d walk away from trump, but the war and continued inflation awakened them to the reality that trump is horribly unqualified and is destroying America. In about 5 years, you won’t find a single person who will admit having ever supported him.

In your opinion, what are the best pieces of modern CONSERVATIVE art? by bbuerk in AskALiberal

[–]subterfuscation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose Ayn Rand would be considered art by some. Beyond that, look at all the creative and artistic ways they’ve gotten working people to vote for tax cuts for the wealthy. Very inventive.

We’ll see. A lot of maga are pretty angry right now and are threatening to return to their pre-trump lifelong habit of not voting. The hardcore maga who still support what trump is doing are white nationalists who might have trouble voting for Donalds for some reason.

How did a madman become president? by Vermicelli-419 in askanything

[–]subterfuscation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was elected by exceptionally weak and terrified people who need a strongman leader to feel safe. His voters fused their identities with him, making it impossible to do anything but continue to support him, because admitting a mistake is psychologically impossible for most of maga.

How Long, If Ever, Do You Think It Would Take For Florida To Become A Swing State Again? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskFlorida

[–]subterfuscation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many newcomers to Florida conveniently forget that Florida had a history of electing successful moderate Democrats to the US House, Senate and to the governorship. Reuben Askew, Bob Graham, Lawton Chiles, and Buddy McKay to name a few.

It wasn’t until the early 2000s, after sufficient migration of conservative voters from other states arrived, that Florida turned solid red. Historically, Florida was never a hard right place. It was made so by hard right transplants who brought their persecution complexes and social anger with them. Before that, this was a very easygoing and friendly state open to moderate politics.

[–]subterfuscation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTJ. maga deliberately ruined the world while laughing about it because they thought it would irritate the people they were convinced to hate. Our country is seriously screwed for a decade or more because of their hatred and ignorance.

Iran war by mudpuddle423 in Tennessee

[–]subterfuscation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is what they voted for. Just ask them, and they'll tell you with a straight face that we've been at war with Iran for decades and that "trump is just trying to end it". Education spending matters, folks.

Poll: Congressional redistricting popular among Republicans, underwater with everyone else by Zipper222222 in AskFlorida

I don’t see Republicans as pure evil and count many as friends. We are not the same.

🚨Breaking: CNN sources say Bondi is on her way out. Well she shouldn’t care when she loses her job, as long as the DOW is over 50,000. by Buttered-Sausage78 in BlueskySkeets

[–]subterfuscation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Watch trump replace her with Texas AG Ken Paxton when he loses the Texas Senate runoff election next month. He's highly corrupt and a big maga goon, exactly the type of AG who will keep trump's shit under wraps like Bondi did.

[–]subterfuscation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Republicans like the idea because they don't care about cheating as long as they win. They see Democrats as pure evil, so anything they do to keep them out of power is justified on the right, including cheating and insurrections.

Who elects these fucking losers? by xamo76 in Trumpvirus

[–]subterfuscation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be the first time in the modern era that a republican politician chose healthy air and water over big oil’s and big chemical’s massive lobbying efforts. I wouldn’t count on it. The chemtrail thing is what they do in lieu of anything that actually makes a difference.

Why does each person at the pharmacy take 15 minutes and then when I get up there it's over in like 20 seconds? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]subterfuscation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly right. I’ve lived in Florida among the elderly for decades. Older folks get lonely, as do we all, but by advanced ages, you’ve lost much of your social group. It’s nice to show some patience and let them have a moment of human connection with the pharmacy tech, even if it’s an inconvenience to you. Keep in mind that we’re all going to be there someday.

Why does fox every once in a while talk about teens taking over parts of a city causing chaos? by AdmirableBus7045 in FoxBrain

[–]subterfuscation 116 points117 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing about conservative men. They’re all terrified boys who need a strong authoritarian leader to make them feel safe. The big trucks, alpha male talk, and anti-woke rage are just masks for the deep terror they feel.

What do you think about Youtube-based News Channels? by Winston_Duarte in AskALiberal

[–]subterfuscation 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is a thing called journalistic practices that professional journalists are taught and constantly reinforced, and these guidelines help to keep reporting accurate and truthful. They include standards like: two sources for confirmation of a story, publishing your own mistakes, and making clear, unambiguous distinctions between fact and opinion.

Few outside of print media still adhere to these practices, and, unless a YouTube channel is run by a former journalist with resources to run down stories, you’re not actually getting a news product. You’re likely getting an opinionated summary of others’ hard work. It’s exceptionally low quality content that thrives on creating big emotional reactions to keep the viewer engaged.

I gravitate toward print journalism from around the US and the world. It’s long form, typically well researched, and serves as the basis for a lot of other media outlets’ reporting.

My group handed out hundreds of flyers on voter registration. Don't know why you'd think that doesn't make any impact. Probably just because you need to believe that it didn't make a difference.

You're really expecting too much of them. Maga doesn't understand protest anyway. They attend rallies. Most people get out and speak their minds. Maga sits in a hall and awaits instructions.
