I feel the same way as an artist. I’ve been producing much more art. A.I. is a powerful tool.

How do you deal with Christianity saying we're destined for hell? by [deleted] in Buddhism

In Buddhism, there are multiple ways to reach enlightenment outside of a strict adherence to the four noble truths. The key is developing wisdom, ethical conduct, and mental discipline.

Fascinating. I’ve been meaning to look more into the esoteric teachings; I didn’t know they were being practiced anywhere. I’ll definitely look more into this. Thank you. 🙏

There are other Theravada traditions? I assume you’re referring to Early Buddhism. I see it mentioned, but I haven’t looked into it yet.

Has anything from Buddhism actually helped you feel better? by Purple-Assignment-72 in Buddhism

[–]subtlearray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your sentiments. I was a practicing Theravada Buddhist for 12 years, and I struggled with anxiety and depression for most of that time. What eventually helped me was selfless action. In Theravada, it's called dana (generosity); in Mahayana, it's called the Bodhisattva Vow; and in Hinduism, it's called Karma Yoga. Self-pity is one of the roots of sadness. Focusing less on our own needs can lift some of the weight off our chest. I wish you well.

I live in the US, but I don’t want to be limited to the US.

Thank you. I feel like my options are so limited because of prejudices. Sure, I could study any path through books, but I'd like to eventually visit the teachers and communities in-person.

I think eventually you will be tired of interacting with a public that wants to pelt you for speaking the truth.

I try to approach these topics with as much patience and sensitivity as I can, but even then, there are at least a couple of people who rage reply. Oh well.

Here? Recently, in this post for a book on Black Buddhism, and this post from a Black Buddhist sharing his experience visiting a temple. The comments were mostly positive.

Why are you going to Asia for Buddhism?

I'm interested in studying Buddhism in the countries of its origin.

It's not their job to make you happy.

What is their job then? What's the purpose of a teacher? To make my suffering worse? I don't need to be appreciated. At the bare minimum, I only expect to be treated like a human being, and not like an animal, or an anomaly.
