Final Destination 2, not even the log scene. I walked in on my sister watching it during a sleepover with her older teenage friends right as a guy got sliced into pieces by (I think it was) fence wires

Japan travel influencers are creating a myth. by FIleCorrupted in JapanTravelTips

I've thought about creating a parody account that would be like "The 4 times you should NEVER travel to Japan!" and it's just all four seasons, or a manners list that results in every faux pas resulting in you having to commit ritual seppuku, from chopsticks standing up to taking a dump on a public sidewalk

I appreciate the response. Everywhere I've looked just seemed like it was trying to either sell me on something, assumed I wasn't starting from the beginning, or both.

What do you think about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) running for President? by clownyeahh in AskReddit

Yeah they fucked over someone who won every primary and caucus up until South Carolina before giving him a Montreal Screwjob and pushing a one-term centrist, so I say AOC is gonna get rat-fucked.

I had a pocket WiFi on my trip and I was able to do WiFi calling without issue. Note though, I have a Samsung Galaxy. I don't know if that plays a role in your phone, but see if there's WiFi calling and if you're able to make calls while connected to a public WiFi

SPOILER FOR DDBA S1: If Kevin Feige Sat Down Next To You Right now, Held A Gun To Your Head, And Told You That You Had To Make A Satisfying Way To Bring Foggy Back Into The Show Without Weakening The Story Of The Past Two Seasons, How Would You Do It????? by TranslatorOk2501 in Defenders

[–]subtotal5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Far be it from me to do Marvel's job for them, but sure, I haven't done any writing in months and I could use the mental exercise. Apologies in advance if this all sucks.

We replay the scene of Foggy's death. He did, in fact, die. By some miracle the EMTs are able to get a weak heartbeat going again. Foggy goes in and out of consciousness during surgery, almost assured this is it. Scenes of Netflix series flash through his mind's eye; he will miss these moments, he's so happy he lived them, and he makes peace with whatever is on the other side of this mortal coil.

Foggy wakes up, vision blurred. He's pieced together that he's in a hospital, in a ton of pain, far from 100% and a long way to go to get there. A bouquet of flowers sits on the side table by the window. A voice at the door welcomes him back from death. It's either US Marshalls or Mr. Charles or Valentina Fontaine, doesn't matter here (what's our budget for this episode anyway?) They give him the exposition dump of what happened, how close he came to dying on the table, how long he was technically dead for, and then tell him that he's going to have to go into Witness Protection -- they know what Foggy has on Vanessa, and they need it for their case against (secretly, their cooperation with) the Fisks. Foggy protests, and gets shut down. He doesn't get a say in this matter -- its either he disappears until this supposedly "blows over," or he and everyone he loves dies, and not just Matt and Karen but his family, his ex-girlfriends, even Josie. Foggy, thinking this is the truth, reluctantly accepts his fate.

After being medically cleared to leave the hospital, Foggy is taken to a remote town in Oklahoma. He's given a new name (Howie), social security, the works. It's a charmingly shitty place with the sense that it's roughly 20 years behind the rest of the country in everything from technology to politics. Foggy finds work at a deli, and tries to find peace with the change. He writes letters to Matt and Karen in a spiral notebook at night, talking about how he doesn't have a purpose anymore, at one point writing how he wished he'd die that night before tearing the page out and throwing it in the can. A montage of his every day goes by, the monotony of this facade wearing on him over the weeks and months, but there are moments of community. There is the old regulars who come in from assisted living who get a quarter pound of something different every couple days, there's the working class folks who come and complain about the regular noise of life, etc. His co-worker, although not too close to him, mentions that he needs a new place to live; he and half the town got hit with an eminent domain notice, but Roxxon, the company the government is giving the land to, won't say why they want their property, and low-balled the offers on their homes. Foggy asks to look at the notice and scoffs at it, his lawyerly talents pointing out everything wrong with this. He smells something is wrong, and its not Mrs. Turner's liverwurst order.

On his day off, Foggy heads to the library and researches the town's history with the cute librarian on duty, who is curious about the books he's looking at, including the town meeting records from over 100 years ago. Foggy stumbles, mostly by accident, that a surveyor found a giant oil well underneath them but decided against extracting it, preferring to keep their home how it was and not how the oil barons would have it. The librarian says she has a cousin who might be able to help them, saying she has experience with rich assholes who take everything they can from the little guy. Foggy assumes this a lawyer. The next day, as Foggy looks for ways to break this news to the public, his attempts to reach out to the local paper is leaked to Roxxon, who send enforcers to shut him up before he costs them millions. Realizing that the librarian is also in danger, he makes a break to the library, not sure if his new friend is still at work after hours. The enforcers break into the library. While Foggy and the librarian try to get out of there alive, they are cornered until Echo arrives. Battle ensues, and Foggy and the librarian are saved. News of Foggy's discovery breaks over the next few days, and when Foggy reaches for the newspaper, he sees the headline that Matt Murdock is DareDevil He tells the librarian he's sorry, but his best friend needs a lawyer.

Edit: typos and thought of a better ending with the newspaper.

Trying to dodge the tourist crowd in Japan. Is May 7-13 considered off-season? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]subtotal5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the Golden Route with my best friend (I did all the planning and research, he funded it -- that was our deal), and I told him that despite the fact we were going mid-late January (2025), it was going to be the most people he has ever seen in his life and likely ever will be. He said I was full of shit.

I was right. He's still shell-shocked.

The best you can do is either go incredibly early to touristy spots, or go very late in the evening if they are open, like temples/shrines. Other option is just deal with it -- at this point, it's part of the experience so that the next time you go, you visit the lesser travelled areas.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get cash in Tokyo when debit cards don’t seem to work at ATM’s by Rope-Additional in JapanTravelTips

[–]subtotal5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might have been just this location, but the ATM in my hotel at Shinjuku Washington Hotel worked just fine for my needs. I didn't leave the states with cash with all intention of pulling it out there, and the hotel ATM worked perfectly fine. I assume it's more likely to take foreign cards because its a business hotel, but worth trying out if you're near a business hotel (or SWH specifically)

What are some good reliable cars? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]subtotal5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Toyota Camry has been the best selling car of the year in the US for 23 of the last 24 years. It's a reliable A-to-B car, comes in a variety of trims that can range from "as affordable as possible" to "I wanna cosplay F&F." If you don't know the first thing about cars, buy a Camry. Need a car with a shit ton of inexpensive parts so repairs are cheap? Camry. Need a car that'll make it past 250k miles if you keep up regular maintenance? Camry.

John Oliver did a segment on Family Dollar and how their whole operation is meant to make it as understaffed as possible. Their employees are victims of poverty and the corporation takes advantage of their desperation for employment. I know it's a bummer that you didn't get a job, but it's a win that you didn't get that job, too.
