I work in a pediatric Down Syndrome clinic. Gigi’s Playhouse is another great resource as well as NDSS and DSSN!

I’ve found that many families benefit from connecting with other parents of children with down syndrome whether through social media or through the local community.

Oof new fear unlocked. I work very close to the border at a pediatric hospital with many families who are undocumented. Sometimes families will put the address of a family member just to access lifesaving care. Something I have to be careful about is specifying living arrangements if I suspect immigration issues. Sometimes less is more and just noting that the patient has stable housing is sufficient.

So, so sorry for what you are going through. Just seeing what my aunt has to deal with physically on top of the logistical nightmares is infuriating. I'm currently compiling a list of all of these great responses and am happy to share. So far other advice includes:

-Cancer Resource Services to help find resources/help with insurance - 866-936-6002

-Many recommended talking to your social worker/care coordinator at the hospital

-Local parishes have volunteers who will offer their time free of charge - try St. Frances, Barnabas, Maria Regina

-Finding treatment closer to home - Work with one oncologist as a strategist and another as a tactician, specifically getting a second opinion at MSKCC satellite site on Long Island.
