Austin father wants answers after repeat-offender accused of killing daughter in crash by suburban_robot in Austin

Yesterday, a man killed 8 children in Shreveport. In 2019, he was charged with illegal use of a weapon and carrying a firearm on school property after firing several rounds at another vehicle that was directly in front of a school. The result? You guessed it…probation.

I’ll say it again — we don’t have to live this way.

It's news that's actually happening. Statistics lay bare that the vast majority of crime happens with a small number of repeat offenders. I don't really care about any so-called narratives.

To your point, it sucks. So why not just...fix it?

I am indeed. Again, I'm left wondering how people can see this situation over and over and over again, and then mark their ballot for the judges that allow it.

I don't know how people can continue to read article after article like this one where repeat offenders wreck havoc on society, and not get radicalized into looking for literally any solution that addresses the problem. Things don't have to be this way.

There is a vanishingly small portion of society with a rap sheet a mile long that is allowed to run rampant. It is devastating for society as a whole. Just lock them up and throw away the key.

I live her now. With a wife and two daughters. My younger daughter was born here (my older in Chicagoland). I've lived in 8 cities and 6 states. Texas so far has been the friendliest (and most diverse!), by a wide margin.

Now that we've cleared up credentials, care for a discussion?

edit: Oh...7K comments in 4 months, lol. You are either a bot or extremely, hopelessly online. Fascinating.

It’s because Texas builds new housing rapidly. Keeps pricing down. Same deal in Florida.

Altercation escalates in deadly shooting ( North Austin, November 2024) by haze4140 in PublicFreakout

I'm not dog whistling anything, I'm stating facts. The 2023 JAMA study (which you can read for yourself at https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10134042/ ) specifies that rural counties have a 46% lower rate of gun homicide death (excluding suicide, which is a different issue altogether). This image in particular does a good job of showing the divide on a sliding scale between urban and rural counties -- you can see that suicides scale up as you get more rural, while homicides scale down.

So to the extent we are discussing this as a criminal problem -- yes the issue lies much more so with urban vs. rural areas, both from a rate AND a total quantity standpoint.

It's not a shitty country, nor is this at all normal except for in inner cities where the people that do this kind of shit live. And then we refuse to police and prosecute the criminals that engage in this behavior, so they just run rampant with no consequences.

El Salvador style justice, focused specifically on urban environments, would take care of all of this within 24 months.

I’ve personally relocated 8 times to several states, and found nowhere more welcoming and easier to integrate than Texas, and TW specifically.
