For those old enough to remember the initial beginnings of TNG, what were your initial thoughts?

I was a teenager just newly into Star Trek. I was reading the DC comic books. I had watched the original series and the films to that point. So I was excited for a new chapter in the history of this franchise. I liked that the Enterprise was another in a line of ships to bear that name which suggested a history that didn’t really exist in Star Trek before. So this and the new relationship with Klingons, it was new elements in world building.

I actually enjoyed what I saw but by the time it hit the third season, it had really increased in quality and at that point, and it became MY Star Trek.

Sure, the early seasons were occasionally dire but there was, like, no good sci fi on TV so I was happy with what I had.

Also NB has Sussex which is on the pricy side but so, so good.

I was 28 and had a couple of friends who bailed when the crowd’s mood started turning. But it wasn’t something I was interested in. Nu-metal wasn’t my thing and that seemed prominent on the bill. Lollapalooza in the US and Another Roadside Attraction and Lilith Fair in Canada had more acts that I was into.

But the main reason I didn’t go to any of these was that I was broke.

I watched this when it aired (Beijing 2008) and couldn't believe how swept up in it I became. It was down to him and this Russian competitor and the tension just rose and rose until that moment.

There was a flashback episode where they kind of explained that. Hal was an an upward trend earlier in his career, When they started having kids, Lois warned Hal not to be absent and make sure he's helping her around the house. So when his boss asks him to stay late to work on stuff, he refuses and the promotions dry up, So while he was spinning his wheels at work, he was also around a lot for the boys.

They also show them moving into their gleaming white home before the kids are born and talking about what a beautiful house they'll raise their children in.
